On Sunday, Elle magazine posted one of the strangest stories I’ve read all year, describing how business crime reporter Christie Smythe left behind her job and her husband to pursue a relationship with one of the men she covered on her beat.
Today’s incoherently angry rant comes from the MGTOW subreddit, written by a man who, for some reason, wants us to know that women aren’t the primary focus of his anger. I mean, he definitely doesn’t like women but there are other things that get him even more pissed off.
The streaming site Twitch, in an attempt to reduce harassment on its platform, announced earlier this week that it would be banning the abusive use of the terms “incel,” “virgin,” and “simp,” three favorite epithets amongst the asshole set. So far at least one streamer has been temporarily banned for using “simp” as an insult.
Last Saturday, New York paramedic Lauren Kwei was outed as an OnlyFans model by the New York Post. Kwei, barely making ends meet on her paramedic salary, had turned somewhat reluctantly to selling nudes on OnlyFans for money to pay her bills. For some reason the New York Post decided that this was their business, posting an article they presumably knew could get her fired from her job.
MGTOWs love making memes with this famous photo of Leonardo DiCaprio, sporting a slightly smug smile, raising a glass of champagne to toast, well, whatever it was he was toasting. In this picture, Leo seems to represent their platonic ideal of the MGTOW attitude, exuding the self-confidence they wish they had.
Sometimes I can’t bring myself to dive headlong into the swamp that is the misogynistic internet. So today I decided to take a look instead at a different sort of swamp — the Twitter hashtag #BidenWillNeverBePresident, where an assortment of Trumo dead-enders have decided to congregate and enjoy their collective delusions together.
MGTOWs — most of them white — spend more time talking about white women than they do any other demographic group. And what they have to say is not exactly flattering:
Imagine how far your head has to be up your own ass to ask a question like this.
When Elliot Page came out as trans, many in the so-called “gender critical” movement acted as if something had been stolen from them. “We mourn the loss of lesbian Ellen Page to transgenderism,” wrote someone calling themselves Radical Lesbians. “We’re losing our already tiny pool of lesbians to the trans cult,” agreed a commenter called Liz-B-Ann on Saidit.
So I was rummaging around on Twitter today and ran across this tweet. It’s not a new one, but it strikes me as rather exquisitely sad, so sad I really feel I need to share it with you all.
