The best and worst of #IfMenWerePutInCharge

So this hashtag popped up on Twitter today, a deliberately ironic poke at gender inequality (I asssume). There were a variety of reactions — some funny, some not-so-funny, and some that seemed to have floated in from another dimension.

How the transphobic hashtag #BidenErasedWomen was transformed into a virtual rally for trans rights

Biden, not erasing anyone or anything

Joe Biden started off his presidency with a bang on Wednesday, signing more than a dozen executive orders unwinding some of the terrible policies Trump foisted on the country, on issues ranging from COVID to climate change to trans rights.

Terrible Tweeters respond to Trump’s permanent Twitter ban

About time, too.

So Twitter has gone and done it: they’ve banned Donald Trump from his favorite online hangout, “due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

A stroll in the fetid swamp that is the Twitter hashtag #BidenWillNeverBePresident

MAGA art

Sometimes I can’t bring myself to dive headlong into the swamp that is the misogynistic internet. So today I decided to take a look instead at a different sort of swamp — the Twitter hashtag #BidenWillNeverBePresident, where an assortment of Trumo dead-enders have decided to congregate and enjoy their collective delusions together.

Fellas, is it Gay Part Deux: Stimulus a Package Edition

Ooh, kinky!

By David Futrelle

Yesterday, we looked at the “fellas, is it gay” meme — specifically, the way it highlights some of the preposterous (but real) beliefs that some men have about masculinity and gayness, finding examples of “gay panic” tied to everyday activities that are decidedly not related in any way to sexual orientation, like washing between your ass cheeks or ordering dessert in a restaurant.

Fellas, is it gay? The definitive list of things that may or may not make you homosexual

Fellas, is it gay to lovingly kiss a woman’s hand?

By David Futrelle

Straight male insecurity can be a sight to behold. The list of things that make men doubt the masculinity of other men (or of themselves) is, it seems, endless. That’s what makes the “Fellas, is it gay” meme so effective, and so funny. By simply taking the tenets of some weird and toxic belief about masculinity and rewording it as a question you can reveal just how absurd it is. Fellas, is it gay to drink a smoothie? Fellas, is it gay to wipe your own ass?

Graham Linehan, poking his nose in as usual

By David Futrelle

Tuesday was the annual Trans Day of Visibility and, as expected, the transphobes were out in force online, spewing venom and pestering any trans people they could find. Do they ever take a day off?

Nazis, Yes; Tiddies, No: Gab launches “cultural revolution” against porn and lust

Typical porn addict

By David Futrelle

Andrew Torba, who runs the Nazi-friendly “free speech” site Gab, is not exactly a big fan of porn. He banned porn from his platform back in July and regularly inveighs against “coomers” — chanspeak for porn addicts — on his much larger competitor Twitter.
