It’s that time again!
Welcome to the First Quarter 2016 We Hunted the Mammoth Pledge Drive!
If you enjoy this blog, and can afford it, please click on the “donate” button below and send some bucks my way!
The 3rd and 4th Quarter We Hunted the Mammoth pledge drive is over, and I would like to offer HUGE THANKS to everyone who donated. Once again, I am humbled by your support, and by your generosity, especially since I know that money can be tight this time of year. I couldn’t do this blog without you.
If you haven’t quite gotten around to donating, here’s that button again. Click it. You know you want to.
We’re about half way through the pledge drive, and I wanted to give you all a little bit of an update.
But first, big, big thanks to everyone who has donated so far. Some of you have been really quite generous, and I appreciate it greatly. Obviously, I am thankful for every donation; they all make a difference.
Here’s that magical donate button again. You don’t need to have a PayPal account to donate, and if you live outside of the US, PayPal will automatically convert your donation into US dollars.
If you haven’t donated (yet), and can afford it, please, please do! I depend on these donations to keep my cats fed and the rent paid and this blog going.
I also want to let you know about another way to support We Hunted the Mammoth that won’t cost you a cent, or at least not a cent more than you were already spending. I’ve set up an Amazon affiliate account, which basically means that I put up some Amazon ads on the site and if you buy anything after clicking through one of them, Amazon gives me a cut.
So if at some point this Holiday season you’re buying someone a present through Amazon, just come here, click through the Amazon ad below, or one of the smaller ads I have in the sidebar, and you’ll be giving me a present too.
While the Amazon links aren’t going to be huge moneymakers, ad revenues overall are as important as donations in keeping this blog going. Which brings me to this.
Previously, when I was hosting this site on WordPress.com, WordPress also handled the ads, for better or worse.
Now that I’m hosting the blog elsewhere, I’m looking for an ad network (or a couple of ad networks) I can use to replace the ads WordPress used to run on the blog. Unfortunately, ad networks aren’t exactly transparent about what they pay or what sorts of ads they will be running, so it may take a little bit of trial and error before I find an ad network that pays decently without burdening me (and all of you) with sleazy or obnoxious or disruptive ads.
So please be patient as I try different options. And if you see some wildly inappropriate ads popping up, let me know.
Thanks again for your support!
EDIT: Oh, and if you have suggestions as to ad networks I should look into, or that I should avoid, let me know!
The somewhat-belated Second Quarter 2015 Pledge Drive for a New Improved We Hunted the Mammoth has come to a close, and once again I am humbled by your generosity.
Your contributions (monetary and otherwise) make it possible for me to not only continue with this blog but to improve it as well. Over the past year, this blog has been reaching more people than ever, regularly racking up more than a million page views a month.
We’re working behind the scenes to bring you a new, improved We Hunted the Mammoth — at least as far as the design of the site goes. As I think I mentioned earlier, I’m not doing anything radical. The aim is to streamline and declutter the site and to make it easier to navigate and use.
Here’s what to expect:
Today marks the somewhat-belated beginning of the Second Quarter 2015 We Hunted the Mammoth Pledge Drive! Which, as always, is another way of saying “several days in which I beg you all for money.”
To repeat my simple pitch from my previous pledge drives: If you enjoy this blog, and can afford it, please click on the “donate” button below and send a few bucks my way. Or, if you’d prefer, a lot of bucks.
You don’t need a PayPal account; credit cards are accepted, and there are other options as well. If you’re outside the US, PayPal will automatically convert your weird non-American money into American bucks.
Thanks for all of your donations, whether big or small. They keep the cats in cat food, and enable me to keep this blog going, helping to compensate me for the considerable time and energy I put into it. And thanks to all of those who donate between pledge drives as well.
And as I’ve said before, I also greatly appreciate all the non-monetary things you all do to support the blog, from contributing smart and funny comments, designing graphics, sending me tips on stuff to write about, sharing posts on Twitter and Facebook, alerting me to trolls in the comments, helping me to design a more effective comments policy, and so on. You folks have posted another 50,000 comments since the last pledge drive, bringing the total close to 550,000.
Things are going well here at WHTM.
Traffic is still booming: WHTM has gotten more than a million page views in three of the past four months and we should easily clear a million this month as well. I’ve had several posts go viral in recent months, and the blog is helping to shape press coverage and broader discussions about the antifeminist, anti-woman backlash online.
I’ve stepped up my posting as well, with the aim of posting twice or more a day.
So if you’ve been donating to this blog, you are continuing to get a lot of bang for your bucks, as they say.
Ok, you say, but what’s this about a “new improved” WHTM?
What this means is that I’ve hired a web designer to give the blog a custom upgrade. I’m not adding useless bells and whistles or radically changing the basic layout. Instead, I’m aiming to streamline the site, which should mean a better user experience for all of you in the form of a less-cluttered blog layout, easier navigation, and faster-loading pages.
The changes will also give me more control over the ads that run on the page (yes, like you I’ve been annoyed by the video ads and other inappropriate ads that WordPress has recently been putting on the site).
This costs money. And I’ve also recently had to replace my old laptop, which was getting rather crotchety in its old age. So I’m hoping some of you can dig a little deeper this time to help me cover these costs as well as my normal expenses.
Thanks again to all of you. I can’t do any of this without your help.
PS: Some of you in the past have had technical problems with PayPal’s “recurring payment” option; I’m planning to set up a Patreon in the near future that will give you another option for monthly donations.
The First Quarter 2015 We Hunted the Mammoth Pledge Drive has come to a close, and I would once again like to offer my HUGE thanks to everyone who donated, and of course to everyone who contributes to the well-being of this blog in non-monetary ways. I am again humbled by the generosity of the We Hunted the Mammoth community.
As I mentioned in my last post, last year was the biggest year ever for this blog, and I hope to make this year even bigger. I’ll be posting more, expanding the range of coverage, and trying to build the audience for this blog every way I can.
If you haven’t donated yet and would like to, you can do so with the PayPal button below. And you can of course you can donate any time using the donate button in the sidebar. (The PayPal page will say you are donating to Man Boobz.) Thanks!
Speaking of Pay Pal, I’ve been getting notes from them that automatic payments have “failed” for a number of you. I’m going to look into this further. Let me know if there are any snafus with your donations.
Not that long ago, We Hunted the Mammoth reached a milestone of sorts. Someone here posted the 500,000th comment to this blog.
That’s a lot of comments. Even more amazing than the quantity of the comments is their quality — excepting, of course, those little turds dropped by passing trolls. I’m amazed and humbled by the awesome community that has grown up around this blog.
I couldn’t do this blog without the support of the commenters here, and the support of all of those who’ve stepped up to help this blog, with their time, their creativity, and, yes, with their donations.
Today marks the beginning of the First Quarter 2015 We Hunted the Mammoth Pledge Drive! Which is another way of saying “several days in which I beg you all for money.”

Oh, and the PayPal page will say you’re donating to Man Boobz; don’t panic! That’s just the old name of the blog.
As always, your donations are all greatly appreciated, whatever size they are. They keep the cats in cat food, and enable me to keep this blog going, helping to compensate me for the considerable time and energy I put into it. And thanks to all of those who donate between pledge drives as well! Some of you are really going above and beyond, and it means a lot to me.
I also, it goes without saying, greatly appreciate all the non-monetary things you all do to support the blog, from contributing smart and funny comments, designing graphics, sending me tips on stuff to write about, sharing posts on Twitter and Facebook, moderating comments, and so on.
We Hunted the Mammoth has dramatically expanded its audience and influence over the past year, and I’m hoping this year can be even bigger. If current trends continue, this blog will rack up more than 10 million page views this year; I’d like to make that 15 million.
Right now I post (almost) every day, sometimes more than once in a day; I would like to post a consistent two posts a day, or more, this year.
I have plans for other initiatives this year, which I will spell out if and when I get closer to launching them.
I can’t do any of this without your help.
Thanks!
The cats, I’m sure, would thank you too, if they weren’t cats.
So the Fourth Quarter We Hunted the Mammoth Pledge Drive has come to a close, and once again I am humbled by the generosity of my readers — including several who’ve gone above and beyond with their donations. I appreciate every donation, big or small; your support enables me to keep this blog going.
If you’ve been meaning to donate but haven’t gotten around to it, here’s the link again. And don’t worry that the PayPal page says Man Boobz.
And of course you can donate any time you want using the donate button in the sidebar.
