Thank you, thank you very much! The Third Quarter Pledge Drive is Drawing to a Close

0141 ThankYou-Catthank_you_cat2  thank-you47 61572 cat

The ritual posting of animated cat gifs brings an end to the Third Quarter We Hunted the Mammoth Pledge Drive.

Let me add my voice to the chorus of animated kitties: THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS, whether they were big or small! They enable me to keep this blog going and to afford shoes for my kitties. Well, not the part about the shoes. I’m not sure why I said that.

In any case, once again I’m humbled that so many of you all think this blog is important enough (or at least entertaining enough) to support with your donations.

And that so many of you contribute your time and your talents to help out as well, whether you’re volunteering as a mod or drawing hilarious pictures or leaving sharp and funny and knowledgeable comments.

If you meant to donate bug haven’t gotten around to it yet, here’s that link again. (And don’t worry that the PalPal page says “Man Boobz.”)

And of course you can donate any time you want using the button in the sidebar.

Some folks have suggested that I set up a Patreon account as well; I will be looking into that.

Thanks again!

Oh, and one more gif. No, I’m not trying to hypnotize you.

Ok, maybe I’m trying to hypnotize you a little.

Exciting new meme: #ConfusedJanetBloomfield AgainstFeminism

JBconfusedcat

When I saw this quote from our old friend, A Voice For Men’s repeatedly-banned-from-Twitter Social Media Director Janet Bloomfield, it seemed to me to be so extravagantly confused that even the most confused cat against feminism would be embarrassed to have said it. So I made a new meme for it. Ta da!

Here’s the whole paragraph the quote comes from:

I am often accused of simply not understanding what feminism IS when I dare to criticize it, especially on Twitter. Get a dictionary, blah blah blah whatever. See, here’s the thing: I know exactly what feminism IS and the claim that feminists stand for gender equality is not only outright laughable, I’m beginning to see it as a calculated, deliberate, malicious lie. Feminists damn well know they are seeking superiority and the wholesale destruction of society as we know it to be replaced by a brutal matriarchy in which all women and the remaining men will be subject to totalitarian controls that would make Stalin green with envy.

Not all the remaining men! I have been assured I will be guaranteed a spot in Women’s Country with the other male servitors.

Anyhoo, if anyone else feels inspired to do any meme-ing, there are certainly any number of quotes about feminism from MRAs that might work well for similar graphics. No need to stick with cats. There are any number of animals that might better symbolize confused MRAs, from dung beetles to snakefish to bat guano. Ok, that last one isn’t strictly speaking an animal, but you get the idea.

Pledge Drive: Kittens With Cash Edition

Kittens love money.
Kittens love money.

As the telltale “cats with money” pic indicates, the time has come for the Third Quarter 2014 We Hunted the Mammoth Pledge Drive!

To repeat my simple pitch from my previous pledge drives: If you enjoy this blog, and can afford it, please click on the “donate” button below and send a few bucks my way. Or, if you’d prefer, a lot of bucks. You don’t need a PayPal account to donate; you can use a credit card, and there are other options as well. If you’re outside the US, PayPal should be able to handle your weird foreign money.

Oh, and the PayPal page will say you’re donating to Man Boobz; don’t panic! That’s just the old name of the blog.

As always, your donations are all greatly appreciated, whatever size they are. They keep me, the cats, and this blog going. Oh, and that other blog of mine as well, that Confused Cats thing.

Big thanks to everyone who donated during the last pledge drive. Thanks as well to those who’ve donated since the last pledge drive, and to those especially generous souls who donate on a regular basis. And to those who donate in other ways, from our amazing commentariat to our outstanding mod team to all of those who’ve offered their talents and expertise to this project and this community.

If for whatever reason you can’t donate, don’t feel guilty. Seriously. I know what it’s like to be broke.

We Hunted the Mammoth is reaching more people than ever these days, racking up close to 3 million more page views just since the Second Quarter Pledge Drive only a little more than 3 months ago.

And the number of comments is not-so-slowly but surely creeping towards half a million. No, really. We recently topped 450,000. Holy crap. That’s a lot of comments.

Well, it’s labor day, at least here in the US, so while we all enjoy a day without labor in honor of labor, I thought I would offer this photographic tribute to our nation’s hard-working cats.

Viral Video Comedy Corner: Fedora Defender vs. Viral Kitten

The video above — in which a highly agitated young fellow with poor camera technique defends his sartorial choice — got posted in the comments here yesterday, and frankly it was too good not to share.

Oh, SPOILER ALERT: The fedoraed gentleman is not for real. He’s a YouTube comedian of sorts who specializes in surreal, awkward and often disturbing videos in the vein of television’s Tim and Eric.

I especially liked this VIRAL KITTEN video he posted the other day, and not just because it contains a kitten.

This Blender Box Blog Race is pretty exciting as well.

MRA Graphix Challenge! Design a meme more misogynistic than this one from A Voice for Men

avfmmeme
Real AVFM meme

Here’s a meme posted recently to A Voice for Men’s Facebook page. I know, a graphic suggesting that any man who enters into a relationship with a woman is bound to end up “miserable, or divorced and broke” is pretty darn misogynistic.

The creator of this graphic, who has imaginatively picked “John Galt” as his pseudonym, explained his thinking thusly in several comments on the Facebook page:

In making it I was in fact thinking of the Nash Equilibrium in Game Theory, popularized by Russell Crowe in the Movie ‘A beautiful mind’. In a society where the hypergamous instincts of many women are driven to cruel extremes by feminism It is ever more relevant to highlight to men that being shamed or encouraged to compete for something that is repeatedly demonstrated as worthless is not only important but very healthy. …

[I]t is in fact Marriage I had in mind but these days cohabitation is the same as marriage under the law. Effectively it is impossible for men to trust even a purportedly good woman simply because of the law, but then it is up to women to change that – all we can do is defend our own freedoms and rights and that is what is most important to me. Of course competing for the right to be treated like garbage is the main point and intentions mean nothing without actions…for men that action must needs be self interest first – ironically the one thing we have been trained and bred to ignore.

So, yeah, in addition to being nearly incoherent, this is pretty much misogyny turned up to 11.

But I think we can do better. Let’s consider this graphic a challenge. I invite any readers here who have graphic talent — and those completely lacking graphic talent whatsoever — to come up with a fake AVFM meme that’s MORE misogynistic than this. BONUS POINTS if you can incorporate an actual quote from an AVFMer in the graphic.

To inspire you, here are some completely unrelated gifs of tiny animals being adorable. (I found them all here.)

The Confused Cats Against Feminism Store is OPEN for funny business!

This shirt can soon be yours!
This shirt can soon be yours!

Good news everyone! You can now snag yourself some nifty Confused Cats Against Feminism swag, and help out a couple of charities at the same time The Confused Cat Store on Zazzle is now open for business, offering everything from key chains and coffee mugs to 126 different styles of shirts and other tops for adult humans of all shapes and sizes, not to mention babies, dogs, and pretty much anything and anyone that can wear a shirt. (Sorry, squids, you have too many arms, or legs, or whatever those things are.)

There are two awesome designs to choose from, both featuring my very own Sweetie the cat, who has no idea that she’s on a shirt, or what exactly a shirt is. Big thanks to designer JohnnyKaje, who also provided the awesome designs for the old Manboobz store.

All my royalties from the Confused Cat store will go to two charities, the Global Fund for Women, a well-respected organization working for the rights of women and girls worldwide, and No-Kill Los Angeles, an initiative to “end the killing of healthy and treatable pets in city shelters in Los Angeles, California, by the year 2017” by providing spay/neuter services and working to increase pet adoptions.

Oh, and today there’s even a 10% off SALE going on!

Also: I will also be opening a new We Hunted the Mammoth store up soon. We’ve got a good Mammothy design, but I also wanted to do some shirts, etc, featuring some infamous quotes from some of the terrible people I’ve written about on this site, or who’ve come by to drop their own peculiar wisdom in the comments here. I am taking requests, so if you have any favorite quotes you’d like to see on a t-shirt or a mouse pad or whatever, post them in the comments below!

EDIT: Well, turns out that, as of right now (3 pm CST), the products are NOT up for anyone but me. Apparently Zazzle is still processing them. So, uh, check back in a couple of hours, I guess?

Goodnight, Paul! You can buy your own Misogyny Bunch pillow for only $19.19 at A Voice for Men’s Red Pill store.

Let me take a moment to ignore my regular readers and speak directly to the Men’s Rights Activists who might be reading this blog. I suspect there are a few.

What I would like to talk to you about it ironic humor. Because, here’s the thing, sometimes people say things they don’t actually believe in order to make a little fun at the way other people see them.

Misogyny Theater: Roosh vs. the Lady MRAs

In this edition of Misogyny Theater, we hear from pickup guru Roosh V, who has some thoughts about the female Men’s Rights Activists – FeMRAs – that we’ve seen so much of in the media of late.

He doesn’t much like them. Not because they’re hateful nitwits like their male comrades in the Men’s Rights movement. But because, you know, they’re women, representatives of what Roosh so memorably calls “a gender who has no loyalty to men.”

He accuses them of pandering to men for attention, and accuses male MRAs, in turn, of being too easily ensnared by their feminine wiles. It’s a mirror image of the accusations that MRAs like to throw at male feminists, and likely to infuriate more than a few MRAs, both male and female.

All of Roosh’s bits in this video come from his recent video “The Men’s Rights Movement Is Making A Huge Mistake.” I’ve indicated all my edits with beeps.

We may be seeing more from Roosh in Misogyny Theater in the future. For the dating-guru-cum-reactionary philosopher, from his secret lair located somewhere in Siberia – no, really, he has literally exiled himself to Siberia — has announced in another video his plans to take over YouTube over the course of the next year or so.

Will he be able to do it? On the one hand, he’s a reactionary woman-hating piece of shit, which means that he should be able to appeal to YouTube’s vast reactionary woman-hating piece of shit demographic. And he has managed to build up his Return of Kings blog into a must-read site for terrible people; a quick check with web traffic monitor Alexa shows that, trafficwise, ROK is trouncing the most popular Men’s Rights site, A Voice for Men.

On the other, as you may have gathered from this video, he has about as much charisma as a sack of potatoes. Stay tuned.

Confused Dudes Confused by Confused Cats Against Feminism

Sweetie Pie Jonus pities the fools.
Sweetie Pie Jonus pities the fools.

Oh dear. Some very confused dudes on the A Voice for Men Forums are angry at the Huffington Post for suggesting that Confused Cats Against Feminism might just be a parody of Women Against Feminism.

A guy calling himself Humansplaining w/ Jarred starts off the thread — titled “HuffPo tries – and fails – to politicize ‘Cats Against Feminism'” — with this little rant. (I’ve bolded some of the especially silly stuff.)

So, being that ‘Women Against Feminism’ is an internet phenomenon, through Tumblr as well as Twitter, the internet inevitably took this thread in the direction it takes EVERYTHING nowadays – cats.

If you read through all the ‘Cats Against Feminism’ memes, you’ll notice that they pretty much all revolve around, well…CATS. Go figure, huh? References to food, tuna, shedding, and biting predominate these posts. The references to ‘Feminism’ are basically incidental, since this is just piggy-backing on the viral success of ‘Women Against Feminism’. Those posting these memes never really express whether they are in favor of, or against Feminism. It’s clearly not meant to appeal to EITHER side of the issue. Rather, it’s simply a silly meme meant to produce a few chuckles for ANYONE that happens to run across them. Just like every other stupid cat meme on the internet, of which there must literally be TRILLIONS.

But HuffPo apparently sees things differently …

You know what? I think those CATS are smarter than the people at Huffpo that produced this article. THEY think that Feminism is a stupid and pointless human concept, and they wish you’d stop talking about it and fighting amongst each other, because they need you to FEED them!
Seriously HuffPo, learn to take a joke, and give the ideology a rest for 5 FUCKING SECONDS already.

Because the cats are laughing at YOU now…

AVFM forum dudes, I hate to break it to you, but the cats aren’t laughing at the Huffington Post. They’re laughing at you.

Maybe I need to start up a new blog: Confused Cats Confused by Confused Cats Against Feminism.
