The Butte Public Library has canceled a talk on the history of LGBTQ+ and Two-Spirit people in Montana, citing a new anti-drag law with language so (deliberately?) broad and vague that it could easily be applied to trans people like the scheduled speaker.
The war on drag queens continues apace. Last Saturday, members of the all-male neo-fascist gang Proud Boys tried to shut down a drag event at a DC area venue, physically attacking counterprotesters and leaving at least one bloodied, according to reports. Last year, there were 120 such protests of drag events in the US. The Proud Boys have been known to show up armed with handguns and assault rifles.
The “moral panic” over drag shows seems to have reached a disturbing inflection point. 33 GOP House members have just introduced a federal “Don’t Say Gay, Don’t Say Trans” bill that could ban institutions getting federal funding from hosting drag shows or making books featuring gay people available to children.
The UK’s badly misnamed “Free Speech Union” wants drag queens to be forbidden from reading children’s books to children in libraries and schools. In a recent post on LinkedIn, of all places, the group warns that drag queens are “trojan horses” for “radical gender theory,” which they somehow infect young children with while reading them “Little Bunny Foo Foo.”
Dennis Prager — the right-wing radio blabber who named an entire fake university after himself — has finally figured out how to blame women for nearly everything he dislikes about the world today. In his latest column for the Daily Signal, Prager explains why he thinks “Women Are Disproportionately Hurting Our Country” by being so darn womanish all the time.
It’s been a strange experience watching Disney transformed, at least in the minds of far right culture warriors, from a relatively staid, goody-two-shoes entertainment conglomerate into a symbol of “demonic” perversity — for the crime of incorporating LGBTQ+ characters in their media properties.
