Hey everyone, just a note to let you know that we’re back up again after a not-quite-two-hour outage.
The cause of the outage was a hardware problem at the host. The techs there swapped out the malfunctioning equipment, and hopefully that will fix the problem for good.
If the site goes down for you in the future, or if you’re having trouble connecting, let me know via Twitter or email.
Also, I’m curious if any of you had issues reaching the site before it went down this afternoon (at about 2:48 central time). I’ve heard from one person who was having troubles earlier today.

Evidently the old email notifications list didn’t transfer over (or transfer over properly) when I switched web hosts recently.

The 3rd and 4th Quarter We Hunted the Mammoth pledge drive is over, and I would like to offer HUGE THANKS to everyone who donated. Once again, I am humbled by your support, and by your generosity, especially since I know that money can be tight this time of year. I couldn’t do this blog without you.

We’re about half way through the pledge drive, and I wanted to give you all a little bit of an update.
But first, big, big thanks to everyone who has donated so far. Some of you have been really quite generous, and I appreciate it greatly. Obviously, I am thankful for every donation; they all make a difference.
Here’s that magical donate button again. You don’t need to have a PayPal account to donate, and if you live outside of the US, PayPal will automatically convert your donation into US dollars.
If you haven’t donated (yet), and can afford it, please, please do! I depend on these donations to keep my cats fed and the rent paid and this blog going.
I also want to let you know about another way to support We Hunted the Mammoth that won’t cost you a cent, or at least not a cent more than you were already spending. I’ve set up an Amazon affiliate account, which basically means that I put up some Amazon ads on the site and if you buy anything after clicking through one of them, Amazon gives me a cut.
So if at some point this Holiday season you’re buying someone a present through Amazon, just come here, click through the Amazon ad below, or one of the smaller ads I have in the sidebar, and you’ll be giving me a present too.
While the Amazon links aren’t going to be huge moneymakers, ad revenues overall are as important as donations in keeping this blog going. Which brings me to this.
Previously, when I was hosting this site on WordPress.com, WordPress also handled the ads, for better or worse.
Now that I’m hosting the blog elsewhere, I’m looking for an ad network (or a couple of ad networks) I can use to replace the ads WordPress used to run on the blog. Unfortunately, ad networks aren’t exactly transparent about what they pay or what sorts of ads they will be running, so it may take a little bit of trial and error before I find an ad network that pays decently without burdening me (and all of you) with sleazy or obnoxious or disruptive ads.
So please be patient as I try different options. And if you see some wildly inappropriate ads popping up, let me know.
