So, a little announcement. I’ve started a new Substack newsletter/blog called My AI Obsession, which is about, well, you know. I’ll be posting there several times a week (while continuing to post here, of course), and I encourage you all to subscribe or, at the very least, check it out. Let’s use AI to annoy the right-wing culture warriors at Bounding Into Comics

The last time we checked in on the intrepid right-wing culture warriors at Bounding Into Comics, they were pitching a fit over the race- and gender-swapping of some of the characters in Disney’s live-action remake of Peter Pan & Wendy. In the new version of the film, you see, neither Peter Pan nor Tinkerbell is white–and some of the Lost Boys are girls! Naturally, this makes the Bounding Into Comics guys very mad, for some completely unknown reasons that couldn’t possibly be racism or misogyny.

The “AI Companion” Replika is in the news again. A year ago, there was a small flurry of news articles about a disturbing trend: men (and some women) were using the chatbot app to create girlfriends and boyfriends they could verbally abuse. Six months ago, the company behind the app added fuel to the flames by releasing an update that allowed users to seemingly hit their “companions” and send their virtual bodies reeling.
