Right-wingers aghast as Elon Musk picks a “globalist” as new Twitter CEO

Let THAT sink in

Check out my new blog, My AI Obsession, and my latest post there, Is it so wrong to spend two hours a day chatting with bots? How about twelve?

Elon Musk has spent a lot of time sucking up to some of right-wing Twitter’s most noxious influencers since becoming CEO of the struggling social media site. Now he’s stepping down as CEO, and his (now former) fans are throwing a fit over his choice as a replacement–Linda Yaccarino, a top official at the World Economic Forum (WEF) and former NBCUniversal ad chief.

Yaccarino is no leftist; she’s a former Trump administration appointee. But Elon’s fans-turned-detractors are throwing a fit over her WEF ties because, in their imaginary world, the international organization heads up a vast “globalist” conspiracy to reduce the world’s population and force ordinary people to live in pods and eat bugs. Oh, and she also thinks people should get vaccinated against COVID and wear masks sometimes. (They might have to remove the masks to eat the bugs, I guess.)

He’s even lost Catturd.

https://twitter.com/TheBigMigShow/status/1656835582742646785

Some were really fixated on the whole “eating bugs” thing.

Some smaller accounts spelled out exactly what they meant when they talked about “globalists.”

Still others suggested that Elon had been forced to appoint Yaccarino by the real masters of the world.

In reality, Yaccarino is about as “woke” as this kitten.

So I don’t expect any radical changes from Musk’s policies, such as they are. Maybe a little less trolling from her than from Musk. But I do enjoy the spectacle of Elon stans turning on their hero for the dumbest possible reason.

Truly, they have a very dizzying intellect.

I still can’t get over how fast the blue check mark went from “this person is who they claim they are” to “this person is absolute garbage.”

Also, how big are the pods? I probably wouldn’t mind living in one as long as the bathroom is a separate room.

I read “globalist” and concluded they mistook her for Jewish instead of Italian.

@Carstonio:

I read “globalist” and concluded they mistook her for Jewish instead of Italian.

Does it even matter as long as they’ve decided she’s an agent of the Zionist Goblin Lizard-People Conspiracy? (Into which a lot of culturally-Protestant conspiracy buffs tie the Vatican, so her statistically-probable cultural Catholicism is no defense.)

An “eight-by-twelve four-bit room” (tip of the battered hobo hat to Roger Miller) would be a step up for a lot of people (although Urban Renewal has long since done away with that sort of thing.)

(And “Queen of the House” is a closer expression of their vision of How Life Oughtta Be. Do the math: the narrator is popping out her fifth kid in as many years.)

@David Futrelle:

Is there any reason that my comments keep winding up in moderation, or are you doing this with everyone?

5 bucks Musk intentionally picked a woman because she would catch heat easier for him.

When someone on twitter writes “we are not stupid”, it’s almost always followed by something extremely stupid.

Someone really needs to empty out the cat box. All those accounts post the dumbest and most hatefilled crap just to make the libs angry. If you entire personality is focused around hurting others, you are a bully and should re examine your life choices.

@Ooglyboggles: You’re giving Elon too much credit. Anybody who’s seen Twitter’s balance sheets lately knows he’s not capable of that level of foresight.

@Ooglyboggles,

A Subreddit thread I was reading referred to this maneuver as a glass cliff. Basically if you’re a CEO and you know your company is going to tank no matter what anyone does, then appoint a woman CEO as your successor. That way when the company inevitably tanks (because of your bad leadership) then she gets the blame (because women, am I right? /s) and you walk away smelling like a rose, because the company didn’t tank while you were in charge.

The appointment would appear to suggest that for Elon money finally won out over ego and he’s hoping someone he thinks is competent can salvage what’s left of his investment.

He’ll have to wish her all the luck, then, because it looks like she’ll be taking the wheel during a full stall with the terrain alarm already blaring.

I’ve noticed that for some reason Ms Yaccarino is being referred to in media as ‘the velvet hammer’. Not sure how that originated. But I do find it marginally annoying. This will screw the algorithm so the actual band Velvet Hammer will get shoved out of the search results. It was bad enough that everyone thinks this is a Pharrell Whatsisname song.

Some of the money #QElon used to buy Twitter came from furrin banks; and some of it came from a Ay-rab prince…but NOW they’re freaking out ‘cuz he’s “gone globalist?” I guess we owe him a debt of gratitude for showing the world how abysmally stupid his remaining fan-base are…

@Redsilkphoenix:

… glass cliff …

See also the Right Honourable Kim Campbell, the (so far) only woman who was Prime Minister of Canada. She certainly seemed competent enough on her own, but everybody knew the Progressive Conservative party was almost certainly losing the next election, what with Brian Mulroney having pissed off a lot of people and the nascent Reform Party peeling off most of the serious right-wing voters. At least some of their members voted her in as the party leader in part because they didn’t want the party favourite Jean Charest to be the one to lose the election.

Personally I think she made a much better Defense Minister than Prime Minister, not that she really got much of a chance at the latter since she was only Prime Minister for a little over four months and a chunk of that was the election. But, to use a military analogy, some people just make much better XO’s than CO’s. Some people are better at being one step down from the top where they get guidelines and have to implement within those guidelines than they are at making the big picture decisions and having to be the public face.
