abortion antifeminism misogyny MRA reddit

Baffled MRA asks: Given that we live in a gynocracy, how the heck was Roe v Wade overturned anyway?

Cognitive dissonance is a thing.

Over on the Men’s Rights subreddit, one MRA is confused: How on earth was Roe v Wade overturned, he wonders, given that women run the world and men are the ones who are truly oppressed? It’s almost like the court decision was designed to make Men’s Rights look bad!

He writes:

I think that probably the worst thing that happened to the men’s rights movement/awareness in the last year was the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Yes, because that’s the critical question here: WHAT ABOUT THE MENZ?

Systemically and socially women were living in the golden age, whereas men on average were suffering a sharp decline in all aspects of life from education to just staying alive. I think we were at the very brink of highlighting those important and serious issues to become more mainstream and yet coincidentally the craziest thing happened.

“Coincidentally.”

Women in several states in the US were no longer able to access abortion and seeing that we’re living in a gynocentric society in which feministic ideals were deeply ingrained in everyone so the natural conclusion that people took from that event was that we’re living in a patriarchy that oppresses women, men are privileged, women don’t have any bodily autonomy, and so on…

Yes, how on earth could removing women’s bodily autonomy be taken as a sign that women don’t have bodily autonomy?

The feminism that was already conditioned into everyone seemed to mutate after that and became all the more powerful giving no chance for men’s issues to rise back up.

I am just curious, how could something like that happen?

How? How? HOW!?

In the comments, one non-MRA offered a clear and concise answer:

Because the US is run by men who control the government and Supreme Court

Unfortunately, this answer got downvoted to negative thirteen points, making it the least popular answer of all 100 comments in the thread. Because MRAs don’t want to live in reality.

The worst thing that happened to the men’s right’s movement was the MRAs/red pill/incels/MGTOW. They provide no constructive ideas and instead try to build themselves up by tearing others(mainly women but also trans people and jews) down.

Men are not getting repressed in education, they are choosing to not go on in college as much as women and are instead becoming NEETs or doing trades. Tons of these guys (who are dumber than fence posts) thought they could get rich quick without any effort or skills via crypto, NFTs, and MLM scams. Every time I see crypto/NFTs tanking, I think of the collective whine of these guys.

But, no, this guy will never see how his cult feed hate has led him to absurd conclusions about the world. That would require self reflection and empathy. Traits these men lack in abundance.

If Women ruled the world, I doubt that abortion rights would be much of an issue.

Oooh, he’s soo close!

Yeah, see clueless dude, there’s absolutely no need to overthink any of this.
We don’t live in a gynocracy (whatever the hell he thinks that is!)

Everytime I see exceptionally stupid sh*t like this I have to forcefully remind myself that these men are every bit as small-minded, blinkered, and stupid as rocks, since they never even consider the existence of BIWoC, which would of course disprove their point!

Of course all one would have to do is look at the sheer numbers of white women being abused and killed in the US but they’re also too stupid to consider that.

Hello.

“WHAT ABOUT THE MENZ?”

MRA way of thinking is a bit like an attention black hole : they want to attract all the attention, but all the light they get just show all the darkness (of thoughts) about it.

Have a nice day.

Hmm. Not sure how I failed to notice this.

God I forgot how arrogantly dumb the Reddit MRAs are. It’s almost quaint.

I mean. Living in reality is hard after all. You need to actually pay attention to people and the world around you! That’s far too much work for them.

Close. If men got pregnant, abortion would be a test of manhood, and therefore almost a sacrament.

Close. If men got pregnant, abortion would be a test of manhood, and therefore almost a sacrament.

And if (cis) men menstruated, volume and severity would be points of machismo and endurance. And PMS would be legally recognized as an Extenuating Circumstance.

(Sordid confession: I used to pretend I was stoically containing the sort of spectacular gut-wound characteristic of Samurai and Kung Fu movies—which I’m pretty sure is not even remotely how uterocentric feminism would want me to mythologize menstruation.)

Systemically and socially women were living in the golden age

I actually think that this is — in one important sense — true. While we still live under patriarchy, there’s never been a historical period better conducive to respecting women’s rights than this one. We could say that it’s not a golden age b/c many things still suck, but that would be an absolutist argument: there’s no such thing as a golden age until X thing(s) are fixed. But Venice wasn’t without problems during its golden age, nor Athens under Pericles. I think the best interpretation of “golden age” statements is always the relative one of “no better time than”.

It’s weird, though, that Fuckbrains McGee doesn’t realize that this is ALSO true for men. Sure, men had more power over women in 1920 than 2020, but they also didn’t have penicillin. They were being drafted and sent to war far more often. Worker safety was absolute shit compared to now. They complain that men work relatively more dangerous jobs compared to women (which might even be true, I haven’t checked the stats) but they don’t bother to take any notice that the danger of such jobs has declined drastically over the last 100 years.

It is not wrong to say that this is the **relative** golden age of the poor and middle class of any gender. On average, around the world, people are less likely to die from famine and disease than ever before, and in North America, Europe, and large swaths of Asia also less likely to die in war than ever before.

But of course saying that puts the lie to the implied statements about women’s golden age. Understood this way we have to admit that the poor still eat shit. They are poisoned, starved, injured, sickened, and killed at horrifying rates compared to the average resident of a wealthy country (whether they, themselves, reside in such a wealthy country or not).

The relative golden age hasn’t stopped outrageous injustice and oppression of the poor, and it hasn’t stopped outrageous injustice and oppression of women, either.

It just sucks a hell of a lot less than it used to.

It’s funny how incels use the NEET acronym. I have to admit I get amusement from some of their lingo.

And if (cis) men menstruated, volume and severity would be points of machismo and endurance. And PMS would be legally recognized as an Extenuating Circumstance.

I read somewhere the other day that a particular country is going to institutionalize time off for that at their universities or entire school system I think iirc.

which I’m pretty sure is not even remotely how uterocentric feminism would want me to mythologize menstruation

I know some earth-mother-goddess type women who do all kinds of rituals and mythologizing that time of the month. They also bury their placenta when they give birth. After having salted it and carried it around in a basket until it fell off from the babies navel naturally. It’s called “lotus birth”. Look it up.

I enjoy some aspects of my period but that’s about it.

@ love is all you need

One of my friends did the eating the placenta thing. Thing is, she’s been vegan since she was 13. So that’s pretty hardcore.

And apparently, popular belief withstanding, it probably doesn’t confer any health benefits.

Heh, brilliant.

Although give it time and we’ll probably see that.

I’m not sure of we have that helper thing here. Is it expensive though? I’m thinking there might be a market for helper helper. (Which would basically be me doing a deal with a local sawmill).

@FM Ox: Heh. The great Dr. Jen even commented on that one.

Looking down the page, I also saw RW thinking Pink Floyd has gone woke with putting a rainbow in their logo for the 50th anniversary of “Dark Side of the Moon”, Buzz Aldrin punching a guy who doesn’t think he landed on the Moon (seen it before, but still love it) and actual footage of Lying Liar Santos parading around in drag. He should sashay away forever.

Yeah, we we’ve been trying to highlight who and what are really responsible for this overall degradation in ordinary people’s quality of life, and suddenly the people in power conveniently offer us another opportunity to scapegoat and punish women instead.

There are enough snobby women who think abortion only happens to the kind of women they don’t like that I could actually see a legislature ruled by women banning abortion.
