Elon Musk declares that “comedy is now legal on Twitter.” Here’s some of that, er, comedy

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before

Last night, Elon Musk, the new Chief Twit, tweeted that under his reign, “comedy is now legal on Twitter.” He did this after reports that his Twitter takeover had encouraged a nearly 500% increase in the use of the n-word on Twitter, as fans expecting looser rules tried out the limits of Musk’s “free speech absolutism” to see how many times they could use the word “n*gger” in a tweet.

Elon’s encouragement of Twitter comedy, one actual wit suggested, would end up being a sort of Purge scenario, but with slurs.

Here, for the sale of posterity, are some souvenirs from this new era of twitter comedy.

CW: Suicide.

CW: Rape

It’s all so funny I forgot to laugh.

Well this is going to quickly drive away advertisers.

This isn’t the most important thing, but just for the record, the age of consent in Switzerland is 16 not 14: https://www.axa.ch/en/privatkunden/blog/at-home/law-and-justice/Youth%20protection.html

Those tweets sound like they come from a bunch of 14-year-old boys from sheltered white communities who need attitude adjustments.

@ Ooglybogles

Yeah, I can’t see many companies wanting to promote themselves next to any of those.

Jokes aren’t tediously predictable, there is an unexpected twist that startles you into laughter, rather than a rancid stream of nastiness with not a speck of originality in any of them.

I agree about the effect this will have on advertising.

Well, there’s another thirty-plus pieces of evidence to confirm the GIFT.

It’s pretty incredible seeing hordes of alleged grown-ups all screeching the exact same terms of abuse, like 12 years olds playing fortnite when their parents aren’t home. They finally get their longed-for freeze peach and this is all they come out with?

And yeah, as others have already noted, advertisers are not gonna be keen on this. I guess it will be funny to see Musk go all pikachu face when he realises the damage.

I hope someone tweets the source code for a tool to remove digital restrictions malware from Tesla cars. Elon says freedom of speech is absolute, so it shouldn’t be restricted by the DMCA.

(I also hope the whole site tanks and goes out of business.)

As a slightly amusing aside, there are people acting as if “ivermectin” was a previously banned word. It wasn’t. As a slightly worrying addenum, that could result in a spike of quackery as well.

It kind of seems like Musk is trying to turn Twitter into a Parlor clone

Though on the subject of the claims by these borons about “free speech”; it’s their definition of the word means something vastly different from what most other people do.

To them; “Free Speech” actually means: “being able to express naked and wanton bigotry, persecution/demonizing of women and minorities and outright death threats and terrorism (stochastic or actual) with impunity and without any consequences, and such bigotry even being outright endorsed and enabled”

It’s detestible and abhorent and frustrating: but honestly not surprising in the slightest

I suspect Twitter’s moderation policy hasn’t actually changed (yet), but Musk is encouraging everyone to think it has, and the nazi accounts are now getting power drunk with placebo effect. It’s not like Twitter’s normal moderation system would immediately stomp them down if they all decided to try being unusually loud and obnoxious one day.

The extreme devotion of Elon Musk’s fanboys never ceases to bewilder me.

According to this article, there has not actually not been any change to Twitter’s content policy (at least not yet) and slurs are still not allowed. They say that they’ve already started accounts related the wave of hateful content highlighted here:

https://www.axios.com/2022/10/30/twitter-bans-nick-fuentes-new-account

Twitter re-banned white nationalist Nick Fuentes after he made a new account on Saturday, according to The Daily Beast.

In before the far right that Elon Musk caters to calls him a psyop.

Elon Musk has deleted his tweet spreading an unfounded conspiracy about Pelosi’s husband. And his fans are now upset that he has “caved to the leftist mob”

It has already begun.

Besides the deplorables cannot be any worse on Twitter than they are in the real world. Decent people can leave Twitter but leaving the US is another problem altogether.

This says a lot about Musk, if those are the people who follow his every word
