Sorry for the recent lack of posts, but I’m on what I like to call a Migraine-cation. It’s sort of like a stay-cation in that one does not actually go anywhere, but in this case you don’t go anywhere and you also have a migraine.
Anyway, I think it’s waning so hopefully I’ll be back soon with real posts.
In the meantime, OPEN THREAD.

Feel better soon!
I’ve heard of a vacation, and I’ve heard of the (aforementioned) stay-cation — but I’ve never heard of a migraine-cation. Until now. It sounds like the wurst. The liverwurst.
Hmm. Must be a new and improved edit function. So I’ll say it here: Get well soon, David.
Have a quiet and nice recovery time, David. Maybe the cat-o-therapy will help.
Hope you feel better soon David! My cat is sending extra cat-o-therapy (love that, @occassionalreader) vibes from this side of the pond.
I’ve got my parents and a aunt and uncle coming to stay at the end of the week. I’m thinking of doing a kind of Texas-ish barbeque/pulled pork dinner thing, but stuck on inspiration for good sides. Anyone got some good standards that always go down well? I have so many cookbooks but always end up in a state of indecision when I’ve decided to “event” cook.
My sympathy, David. Just concluded a ten day blindfest – hopefully – so good vibes heading your way!
@Lollypop
Cold:
Cayenne dusted potato salad – can’t go wrong with that.
Tabbouleh – easy, quick and impressive. Tastes better if you make it the day before, too, so one less hassle on dinner day!
Tomato stuffed with feta and olives, or a greek salad if you don’t want to fuss and find some good cherry tomatos.
Mac and cheese salad. Again, quick, easy, and benefits from being made the day before.
@LollyPop:
In the middle of a pandemic?
It’s hard to go wrong with French fries. Pretty much everybody loves the taste, and if the fry oil is vegetable oil they’re vegan.
@ lollypop
Some ideas here. The mushroom one is pretty addictive I find. But avoid cauliflower rice; that stuff is just weapons grade awful!

Yeah we’re all double jabbed, it’s not against restrictions and the UK is close to 90% vaccination rate in the over 16s.
Personally, I’m still try to being careful not to spread it to others who may not be vaccinated through mask wearing in shops, on transport etc. But in terms of personal safety and the safety of loved ones, as the government completely fucked up test and trace and never pursued zero COVID, I think in this country at least this is the best we’re ever gonna get.
I do love French fries!
@Alan Robertshaw @Threp (formerly Shadowplay)
These are great suggests!! Thanks guys.
From a fellow migraineur – my sympathies. Get well soon.
@ David
Migraines suck. Get well soon.
@ Lollypop
Not exactly a side, but cookies usually go down well in my experience. Chocolate chip, Oatmeal Scotchies, Snickerdoodles, etc.

*Rambling Ahoy*
I feel like I have been away from WHTM for a time. Been busy with a new job. Fortunately my Covid symptoms have been improving and thus it seems I do not actually have long Covid, or if I do, it is rather mild. I still feel a bit off, but that may be simply because the job is physically demanding and I am not used to it.
The job is in a new (to me) town, and I have been visiting a state park there after work, walking the trails (a bit slowly at first, owing to the aforementioned Covid recovery), and generally enjoying being in a bit of nature.
I grew up in the country, so at one point it suddenly occurred to me that there were cicadas making an awful lot of racket, which I simply hadn’t noticed because of growing up in the country.
I then did something I haven’t done in probably more than ten years: I noticed a couple of deer in the woods near a trail and quietly walked to within about twenty yards before they figured out something else was there with them and bolted. I have snuck up closer than that before, so this was hardly much of an accomplishment or new experience, but this made me realize I have missed the woods so much.
I want to own a house in the woods, and have for much of my life. The woods are awesome and I will find a way to make this work. That is all. Thank you.
Get well soon.
Since I can’t seem to edit, I’d like to point out if it isn’t clear from context, I have spent the last ten+ years of my life living in town. Not exactly fond of it, and somehow I keep forgetting how much I like nature.
Feel better soon, David! <3
One super easy side is pesto pasta salad. Although it doesn’t really go with the Texas theme.
Cook 6 oz. of farfalle/bowtie pasta. While it’s cooking, slice cherry/grape tomatoes into halves. I usually use most, but not all of an 8 oz. packet. Drain the pasta and put into a large bowl. Mix in the tomatoes, all of a 4 oz. jar of pesto and all of a 6 oz. packet of feta cheese crumbles. Stick in the fridge overnight.
I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this, David. Feel better!
well-wishes, David, may both halves of your head be in an unpainful state as soon as possible 🙁
also @.45 that sounds rather wonderful :-s (and now I want some woods too even though I’m city-accustomed)
Not the same thing but I’ve been dealing with so many menstrual migraines for the last year or so. So I know how horrible this crap it as hopefully it goes away soon. my doctor gave me medicine for it that helps a lot when I do have a migraine. If you are able to, it might be something you want to look into david.
I have been there and done that, David.
At first glance, I thought that was Nancy and Sluggo hammering Supes.
I once had a cat-o-therapy (actually my roommate’s). I had a blinding throbbing migraine, and kitty (who was normally a grouchy jerk) sat next to me and quietly purred me to sleep and when I woke up, the pain and all was gone, I just had the spac’y after-effect.
Roomie said kitty hadn’t slept, but stayed awake to watch over me. Cat, lying down and purring, staying awake for over 2 hours in the afternoon!
@Lollypop: mac and cheese, maybe, cornbread for sure. I cannot stress this enough, CORNBREAD (either as one big one or as muffins). I was born in Texas and my folks are buried there, so I speak with some authority. Cornbread. With jalapenos if’n you want, or not is fine. Cornbread.
@GSS ex-noob
Heh. The one on the right, at least, is an old rendition of Mr. Mxyzptlk, the fifth-dimensional imp who loves tormenting Superman. A character that was pretty much created because Superman wouldn’t be able to do anything against him with his powers, but instead would be forced to outwit him.
I am currently waiting for a very delayed train after a lovely walk; but Hector the station cat is keeping me company.
Thanks, everyone! The migraine eased up yesterday and hasnt come back today, knock on wood.
My sympathies to all migraineurs. And .45, get well soon!
@Jenora: I didn’t recognize the old Mxy.
He shows up on the “Supergirl” TV show sometimes, as recently as this week. Along with a female Mxy-something.
@Alan: Hector knows how to best pose himself.
I’ll guess you’re tired of suggestions, but I have to mention that a migraine-suffering friend swears that peanut butter helps him. Feel better soon, please.
