I love the Ask The Red Pill subreddit so much. Because where else can you find questions like this?
Yes, dude, you’re allowed to tell a woman she’s hot while your penis is literally inside her. Jesus Christ.
These guys must be such a treat in bed.
(Oh and by the way, a “plate,” in Pickup-artist-speak, is someone you’re seeing casually, or a friend with benefits kind of thing.)

@Bookworm in hijab:
In retort to someone bemoaning the Great Blaise Zabini Reveal in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince—and complaining that “Black people can’t talk sexy in French!”—I may have cited the original 1974 version of “Lady Marmalade”, involving people with surnames like Labelle and Toussaint.
@GSS ex-noob: I find cold brewed coffee tends to be much mellower for its strength than most, maybe because the slow process doesn’t extract the bitter chemicals as much. That said, sufficiently dark chocolate can be very bitter itself…
@ GSS ex-noob, I’d just say salaam aleikum. When non-Muslims say that to me, it automatically shows me they know enough about Islam to know the polite greeting; it makes my day. Given that how we (the women in my community) greet each other when we get together is to kiss on both cheeks, probably not how you want to greet a stranger!
@ Full Metal Ox, whaaaaat? What a ridiculous thing to say! I can’t even. I wanted sonething witty to add, but I just can’t.
If you compliment her or her kids, you could say mash’allah after. Like, “Your baby is so adorable, mash’allah!”
Any Muslim would understand those phrases even if they don’t speak Arabic. But you’ll get asked if you’re Muslim too ?
Ooh! And bitter coffee! I totally agree that that wrecks many an otherwise awesome dessert, and I like coffee. But tea sounds like a good idea for a similar, milder effect.
Earl Grey makes surprisingly good wine. Not as good as Oolong, but good.
Since we talk of unusual tastes, does someone know about the chocolate + garlic combination ?
I had an involuntary case of garlic-flavored cake and sort of want more. But dunno if the taste was good by accident or if cooks already worked on that.
@Ohlmann
Well, garlic and bitter chocolate go into my mole sauce and it’s rather pleasant, so I’m a fan of the combo. Then again, I put peanuts in my sauce too, so not exactly a purist – nor someone who’s taste buds can be considered reliable!
Don’t mind me over in the corner, taking notes.
Garlic and chocolate sounds like it’s probably better than dill pickle soup!
(Note: unless you really like dill pickles, don’t do dill pickle soup. I tried it because I found a recipe and was curious. It was… not bad, but also not good.)
Speaking of chocolate…
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-56576567
I note that they asked pacifist quaker manufacturers to produce the chocolate; knowing that they wouldn’t accept payment as that would be war profiteering.
Sounds like it’ll taste summat like kapusniak. Which is novel, but grows on you. (Then again, so does fungus.)
So I fell asleep in the car and my husband almost killed us by driving on the wrong side of the road.
@Elaine The Witch
WORST. APRIL FOOL’S. EVER!
@Bookworm: The tea gives a different quality than coffee. A bit more floral. Plus Earl Grey has bergamot, a citrus fruit something like bitter orange– and orange and chocolate play well together.
@Bookworm, thanks! I am now equipped to support good Muslim women and disapprove of bad Muslim men.
@Ohlmann, I have been to the Gilroy Garlic Festival, where they put garlic in every food, except for the pure garlic. The chocolate was indeed tasty, but the vanilla ice cream with garlic is superb. Very nice after a garlic chicken lunch.
Anyway, yes, people have been working for years to find ways to put garlic in desserts and be tasty.
Black garlic Mid-Autumn mooncakes are a thing in Vietnam (and such a colorant sounds a lot more healthful than the artificial colorings used in the infamous Burger King Halloween Burger—as does the squid ink that dyed its Japanese inspiration.)

@GSS ex-noob
I’ve been there too. High five! I had the garlic-chocolate ice cream. Two words: dee vine.
But I believe you’re mistaken about the pure garlic: I’m pretty sure they put garlic in the garlic. Or at least that was what the festival smelled like, with the lovely smell of garlic everywhere.
@Alan Robertshaw
I’m inordinately proud of the fact that I was born and raised in Pennsylvania (we Pennsylvanians call it PA), which was founded by a Quaker, William Penn. I boast about this frequently to my boyfriend, a non-Pennsylvanian.
@Threp,
I’m too much of a saurkraut hater to be on the kapusniak train, but kinda?
I might have to try it again, though.
It’s also kind of like borscht if you removed everything from borscht that makes borscht good and replaced it with pickles.
Adding kapusniak to the “things to try making” list, alongside earl grey chocolate cake. Garlic ice cream is going to have to stay on the “try and buy if you find” list though.
@ Kat
William Penn is sort of famous in legal circles here. It was his trial that confirmed the right for a jury to return a not guilty verdict, regardless of the evidence in the case.
What I believe Americans call ‘jury nullification’ but we call a ‘perverse verdict’. Which I prefer cause it sounds a bit kinky.
But there’s a plaque commemorating that at the Old Bailey.
@Alan
This is interesting new news to me about William Penn & the other William guy.
@ GSS ex-noob, I just looked up the Gilroy Garlic Festival, and it sounds amazing!
We tried to grow garlic in our garden one year. While it turns out garlic is pretty easy to grow, the actual planting of it was murder on our backs! Now we just get it at the farm market. Mmm roasted garlic on crackers…
@Makroth
He forgot he wasn’t in Japan anymore.
I woke up to him saying ‘what the fuck is this idiot doing” as a car was driving towards and I went
“babe your on the wrong side of the road!”
“Oh shit!”
A friend quipped that incels are celibate by choice. Just not *their* choice.
I like the quip even if it’s misleading, since being a mysogine asshole is a choice.
@Bookworm, if you ever get out this way of a summer, we’ll go. Wear your lightest clothes, it’s usually DAMN hot. Which makes the ice cream (either chocolate or vanilla) even better.
@Kat: you can join us too! I wouldn’t be surprised if they did put extra garlic on the roasted heads of garlic. Once hubby and I were driving between Northern and Southern California and I’d fallen asleep (luckily on the right side of the road) and woke up going “sniff sniff… we’re in Gilroy, aren’t we?”
