There are a lot of people to blame for yesterday’s mob assault on the Capitol — from Donald Trump on down to your QAnon-loving uncle on Facebook. But over in the Men’s Going Their Own way subreddit, one imaginative commenter points the finger of blame at a rather different villain: the suffragists of the early 20th century.
“Maybe women voting wasn’t such a good idea,” writes the commenter known as SammySilver09.
This is only happening because women have voted us into a Corrupt Socialist country. And it’s tearing us apart.
Sammy here has a rather unique notion of what socialism is, I guess.
Women overwhelmingly vote for more government and higher taxes to pay for programs. Women always vote to put resources in fringe movements like Trans rights and they use emotions when voting on immigration and economic policy.
God forbid anyone let their emotions color their politics.
And I’ve never met a woman that didn’t vote for Obama. I’m not talking his politics but women voted for him because he’s a guy they wanna fuck, not because of his plan or policies.
So why did women vote for Joe Biden then? I mean, there aren’t a lot of 78-year-olds on anyone’s to-do list.
It only took a few generations of giving women power to destroy the greatest country in the world, just like it only took eve 1 day to destroy paradise.
Sammy isn’t the only MGTOW Redditor blaming women’s suffrage for our current political mess. Someone called roflcopt0rz_returns had this to say in another thread on the MGTOW subreddit:
Every group of people will point to another to explain the problems with society. For example, the left will point to white men or straight men or republicans or christians or whatever. Meanwhile the far right will point to jews and some point to blacks.
The REAL root of the problem however is women. Or more specifically, women’s suffrage. Or if you want to make it gender neutral, universal suffrage. Stupid people voting with no skin in the game will create a system that is rigged and corrupt and they will be too stupid to realize what the problem is. A simple example would be stupid people (majority women) will vote in more welfare and then simultaneously vote for open borders to bring in unlimited migrants who do nothing but leech off the welfare system which causes everyone to go bankrupt. They are too stupid to see the connection.
Mr. Dunning, meet Mr. Kruger.

I have to admit, that’s one use of “to-do list” I wasn’t expecting.
Now I think I know why MGTOWs can’t go their own way; if they did, they’d have no women around to blame for their mistakes.
The group called terrible people will point to women — all women, everywhere — as the problem.
I figured that with Dr. Jill Biden as his wife — a woman devoted to public education — Joe Biden couldn’t be all bad. Also, Joe Biden was running against the worst person in the world.
@David
I appreciate the post, but that graphic is distressing and disgusting and triggering.
I’ve always found the right wing’s claimed hatred of emotion to both be a total self-own and hypocrisy. For one, we have emotions for a reason, for two, they also vote based on emotion. The reason they are different is because they mainly vote on fear and hate, their preferred emotions. What they really mean is “they use emotions other than the ones I use.”
He must not have met many women, then. Millions of women didn’t vote for Obama.
Is this MGTOW arguing that we should bring back the property requirement for voting in addition to ending women’s suffrage? I doubt he realizes that that would probably disenfranchise him as well.
EDIT: I agree with Kat, can we have a different image?
“So why did women vote for Joe Biden then? I mean, there aren’t a lot of 78-year-olds on anyone’s to-do list.”
Well, Mr. Ageist, we were given the choice between him and Trump. Which of them would you choose? ;D
I just saw the news coverage – hadn’t watched it yesterday. To blame this on women you have to do some pretty far reaching (like back to when women were given the vote, apparently!), since most of the people storming the Capitol were men. Mostly white men.
But “the left” isn’t saying that the problem is people being white men. Look at this false equivalence:
Most leftists aren’t saying that a particular gender, religion or racial identity makes someone inherently bad or stupid. Besides, “Republicans”? One of these is not like the others.
And the list of the far right’s targets is a bit short. They’re prepared to hate a whole lot of other religious and ethnic groups as well as LGBTQ folks and, hmm, women.
I didn’t vote for Obama, I was 8 though.
@epitome
I think it’s projection. The right is so used to hating people based on characteristics like gender or race and blaming their problems on minorities that they can’t imagine a political view not based on hate and scapegoating. So they assume the left must hate them for being cishet white men.
And I, for one, would like to thank Anita Bryant for her tireless work on behalf of queer & trans rights.
@naglfar
It is 100% projection.
I’ll grant you corrupt, but socialist? No. Absolutely not. Are you high in addition to being completely delusional?
There’s a clear logical connection between women’s suffrage and the post-election desperation of diehard Trumpists. After all, if only men had cheated in that election, Trump would’ve won.
@Battering Lamb
To the right, socialism is a term for anything they don’t like. Having only looked at right wing media, they don’t know what socialism actually is so they just use it as a catch all for any policy that isn’t far right.
I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but Dunning Kruger may just be a statistical artifact. Still plenty of space for motivated reasoning and good old-fashioned stupidity though.
I am aware. Just like people tend to conflate socialism and communism. Doesn’t make it less frustrating or stupid.
@David
Thirding the request re the image.
@Simon
Ooh that’s interesting. Thanks for linking.
“Capitol riot”. Call it what it is: an attempted coup.
@Simon
Interesting. I guess I’ll have to stop using that as an explanation for why people who don’t know the first thing about a topic think they’re experts.
@Naglfar
I think some of it is projection, and some of it is that the conservative leaders (rich people who benefit from tax cuts to billionaires, and the pundits they hire) are telling rank-and-file conservatives that “the left is all about identity politics.” Some of the pundits and high-ranking Republican politicians probably know that the left doesn’t hate people for their gender or race, but they lie to their base and the base believes them.
How is it possible to get so much wrong in one post? Migrants take jobs but leech off welfare. Women somehow have no skin in the game of the society in which they live. Apparently lots of people want to f&ck Biden. Seriously. There has to be a word for this condensed, weapons grade level of wrong.
Furthermore, the violent LARPers at the Capital were not pushing back against “socialism.” They were protesting fairly conducted elections. They were trying to get their god emperor into the position of dictator for life. That is the exact opposite of what Miggies claim they want. Morons.
The internet was clearly a bad idea.

Maybe I don’t hate cishet white men, but I sure don’t trust any* of ’em! Cishet white women, too, and I am one of those. Especially middle aged ones, which I am also one of.
sigh
and also
Which is why we got Kelly Loeffler robotically and endlessly repeating the phrase “radical socialist” referring to Mr. Warnock in all of her election speeches. But the magic words didn’t work this time.
*that I don’t personally know
But even during women’s suffrage, their artwork** was bad; that woman in the postcard illustration either has her upper lip stretched and clamped in the vise, or else she is lacking one.
**or at least some of it
[OT] What the hell is going on in Ontario?
Lockdown since Boxing Day — no nonessential businesses open, no in-person schooling — but the numbers just keep climbing. We’re long past the point where very many new cases could have been exposed before the lockdown started. So how ARE they being exposed? If no one is going much of anywhere but pharmacies and grocery stores, have those become major hubs of spread then? That’s a huge problem if so, because I can’t avoid them if I want to not starve!
@Surplus
Its possible that people gathered with family and friends over holidays in violation of the lockdown and that resulted in more infections.
@Surplus @Fabe Is it possible that people are taking a long time to get tested, or that the results take a long time to come through?
