The Washington Free Beacon has declared accused double murderer Kyle Rittenhouse one of its Men of the Year for 2020. Describing him as a “patriot” and a “righteous [man] of action,” the editors of the right-wing rag wrote that
[t]he good people of Kenosha can sleep easier because among us are the likes of 2020 Washington Free Beacon Man of the Year Kyle Rittenhouse.
Rittenhouse is currently awaiting trial on charges of shooting and killing two protesters, and injuring a third, at a Kenosha Black Lives Matter protests in August. He has since become a folk hero to many on the right, who claim that he shot in self-defense, and his supporters have raised more than $2 million for his defense, according to Rittenhouse’s mother, who also hopes to raise money by selling “Free Kyle” bikinis and other swag..
The Free Beacon alleges that Rittenhouse’s victims were the real danger that night, and that the shooter “survived by the grace of God and the reliability of Smith & Wesson.”
Rittenhouse wasn’t the only man chosen as a Free Beacon “Man of the Year” this year. Every year the Free Beacon names several, some in serious homage and others as jokes. This year another one of the awards went to Jeffrey Toobin, who got a writeup overstuffed with bad masturbation jokes; last year one of the award winners was Hunter Biden, celebrated ironically for his alleged hard-partying ways.
But there’s no trace of irony or humor in the Kyle Rittenhouse award. They like him; they really like him. It’s grotesque.

I’ve never heard of this media outlet before. Unfortunately now I have.
“Free Kyle” biki… Wow. Gotta admit, that’s a wrinkle I would never have contemplated in this case.
Doesn’t he live in a completely different state?
Yet another Klu Klux Klanner not shown wearing a white hoodie. The secular dream of white picket fence fascism?
@Bakunin
Yes, he is from Illinois.
For sure you don’t wake up in the middle of the night scared when someone has shot you in the head.
These people are so disgusting.
@ bakunin:
Well, the plan is that he moves to Wisconsin for 15 years to life.
And a very edgy Happy Holidays to you too, Free Beacon.
@ Crip Dyke
I just. Love the way you phrased that. Here’s hoping he spends a very long time in Wisconsin.
I wish I could go back to the innocent times of five minutes ago when I hadn’t heard of this.
Yup, a person so frightened by anything out of the norm that his response to an encounter with a street person that appears to have mental issues is to kill is exactly who you want roaming your area fully armed.
Its been about 8 months since I’ve last visited Mammoth. I’m glad it’s still up. And it’s nice to see some familiar “faces.” Blessings to all.
To them, a human is only worth living if they can serve the machine. Hope he and his sympathizers get nothing but coal without the things to use it for fuel, and bad fortune for years to come.
Excuse me while I get some more drinks – already had some vodka today, got some Bailey’s.
cornychips, welcome back! Hope you are having a good Christmas! Also, THANKS!
Reminds me of Trump pardoning literal murderers.
On that topic, are his murders federal, or state crimes? I think that murder is usually a state crime, but I wonder if it will be an inter-state matter, because the racist murderer crossed a state boundary to commit his loathsome deed. May it be a state matter, that the racist murderer might face justice and not benefit from Trump’s habit of pardoning humanity’s dregs at the eleventh hour.
@Mabret
This would fall under state jurisdiction, in the state where the crime occurred. Him crossing state lines in immaterial in jurisdiction in most cases. The fact that he crossed state lines to commit the crime though… That’s probably enough to elevate the charged to two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder in the first degree. Since the act of crossing state lines essentially proves premeditation.
For it to fall under federal jurisdiction, he would have had to committed his crimes either against federal workers, on federal land, in Washington DC, started with a kidnapping, or similar. Which would give the federal justice system jurisdiction.
Shorter version: It doesn’t matter what state you’re a resident of when you commit a crime in a state. You’ll be at the mercy of the legal system in the state whee the crime occurred.
@Mabret
To the best of my knowledge Rittenhouse is being charged at the state level. I don’t know much about the governor of Wisconsin, but I don’t think he has a history of pardoning murderers.
@Robert Haynie:
It’s 2020.
Though fortunately not for much longer.
@Natsume, Naglfar
That is all a great relief. It were better if it had never happened, but at least we have a chance at justice.
Glad to see a link to Wonkette here. Along with WHTM (of course!) and Roy Edroso’s two blogs, Wonkette is one of the sites has helped keep me sane through the Trump horror.
