So I was rummaging around on Twitter today and ran across this tweet. It’s not a new one, but it strikes me as rather exquisitely sad, so sad I really feel I need to share it with you all.
Make sure you watch the embedded video, though, to really appreciate what makes this tweet so sad.
HOW IS IT PATHETIC TO ENJOY CUDDLES WITH THE WORLD’S CUTEST FLUFFY CAT?
There’s a lot wrong with far-right attack journalist Ian Miles Cheong, but this tweet is just so silly and sad. DO YOU HATE JOY, IAN?

@alanroberstshaw
That is a glorious picture and story, thank you!
What an adorable floof! So cuddly!
For Ian, the only acceptably masculine pet is the ants streaming out of his keyboard.
But ants are communist!!!!!
Best pet for Cheong is probably a pet hate.
Oh the floof! if I didn’t have two extremely jealous hounds I’d be getting a cat, but I do, so I can’t.
@Threp
I would say to give Ian a pet rock because he can’t abuse that, but he’d probably throw it at someone and they’d get hurt.
Oof. Big mistake there, Ian. People on the internet LOVE cats. Even most of the people who’d otherwise agree with you. Prepare to lose whatever cred or sympathy others accorded you up until now. And that is truly pathetic.
For some reason, I am reminded of Vigo’s bad reaction to people’s singing and joy in Ghostbusters II. (The same film also had a creepy incel as the big bad’s useful idiot, with the apparent contract between them being that he gets Dana if he brings Vigo the baby. That makes two Ghostbusters films in a row with an incel baddie, since the third film also has one.)
The bit with the paws in the book was too sweet
Wow, if you don’t smile in joy at watching that video…you literally can’t have a heart. i want to have that on an inifinite loop in front of me to keep me going.
@Surplus: To be fair IIRC the Ghostbusters 2 “incel” baddie was magically brainwashed into becoming Vigo’s minion, so his agency in the whole thing is questionable at best. Although he was pretty creepy/clumsy towards Dana even before that too, so…
POOMPH CATS~! <3
Ghostbusters 2 is very apropos:
Maybe Vigo did need a kitten. Might have made him less angry.
OMG I love these cats so much. Anyone who thinks less of Steve for his love for them must be just… absolutely heartless.
“What do you want, you moon-faced assassin of joy?”
That video made me so happy! Our kitty boys are nearly that affectionate and it’s awesome!
I agree that Mr. Cheong is totes jelly.
The guy in the video is awesome.
Floofy cats are awesome. So are non-floofy cats.
I had a rotten day at work yesterday, but our clowder snuggled up with me to remind me that I’m loved. (Mr. Parasol did the same, but I’m sure our cats would want me to mention their contributions first.)
I don’t understand people who say cats are standoffish pets. There may be standoffish cats – one of ours is very suspicious of other people, and like Greebo he can be quite territorial, but he’s a big softie, really – but cats as a species can be quite affectionate. When I was in the hospital a few years back, our Greebo-esque cat was FURIOUS. I was HIS designated human, and I did not have his permission to leave, so even though Mr. Parasol was making sure everybody was fed, my cat was stomping around and making his displeasure known. Soon as I was home, he was in my lap, and when I crawled into bed, he snuggled right up and purred away. His human was back where she belonged, and therefore all was right with the universe.
Send good wishes for my kitty please. She has an upper respiratory infection of some sort. The vet gave her some antibiotics, so hopefully that’ll clear it up. But it makes me sad to see her like this. She’s usually feisty. And cuddly. But now all she does is lie around on the floor all day.
He likes traditionally masculine things. He lifts weights and climbs.
@WWTH
I’m so sorry to hear that your cat is under the weather. It’s hard to see our furry children sick. I hope she’s up to her old tricks soon.
@VP
And they lived happily ever after.
Ian Miles Cheong: pathetic excuse for a human.
And here is a man playing the piano with his cat, and there seems to be a fair amount of mutual happiness https://twitter.com/i/status/1256538034729889794
@WWTH
Hope your kitty is feeling better soon.

He’s currently sitting on my foot, so I think he’d agree with you.
