We’re in the grip of a pandemic that has already killed more than 132,000 Americans. The Black Lives Matters protests continue across the country. And somehow at this fraught moment in history the internet babies are throwing yet another tantrum about “Captain Marvel” actress Brie Larson — though at this point I doubt many of them can even remember what they’re ostensibly mad at her for. (Because she’s named after a cheese?)
A couple of months back, professional and amateur outrage merchants on YouTube pitched a fit over her appearance in a Nissan commercial. Now they’re mad that she’s started up a YouTube channel of her own.
Her channel has been up all of three days and already her haters on YouTube have started pumping out attack videos.. Here’s a selection:
Yes, that last one is three and a half hours long.
I would offer some more commentary on these bullshit videos, but I refuse to watch any of them on principle, the principle being that I don’t want to watch any of these bullshit videos.
But scrolling through the search results on YouTube I did find one relatively unoffensive video about Brie Larson that I would like to share with you. It features Ms. Larson wearing a pantsuit, and it was put up online by a channel that specializes in “Female wearing suit shirt & tie.”
I have to say, that’s the best clip of a woman wearing a pantsuit I’ve seen in some time. And it’s got puppies! How can anyone be mad at someone with such obvious rapport with puppies?

Haven’t these bozos ever heard of the Streisand Effect? All their outrage is doing is raising Brie’s profile, and some part of me thinks she knows and planned for the outrage as free advertising. If so, hats off to her, well played.
I’m not going to watch the rage videos either, but the puppies in the last clip are adorable.
The channel for the last clip is a bit odd, as the name suggests it’s full of nothing but short clips of women in suits. Maybe someone’s fetish or something, or maybe some woman shopping for a suit, I don’t really know.
Y’know, sometimes it’s just a moment of whimsy that gains traction and becomes a running joke or whatever. The inertia keeps someone posting about that same topic even when it doesn’t come close to being a fetish (or a job requirement).
I mean I could imagine some people thinking that posting laughable shit that MGTOWs and assorted random other sexist jerks post would have to be a fetish for someone to bother with, but we all appreciate David and I seriously doubt it’s anything sexual for him.
So, y’know, I think it just comes down to “people are weird, and the internet tends to bring out our eccentricities”.
@Crip Dyke
Fair enough, I was just speculating on possible motives for the very specific YouTube channel.
The whole Brie Larson Nissan thing was only a couple of months ago? The last three or so months have been the longest 2 years ever
“Waaaaaa, Waaaaaa… Somebody is criticizing my queen”
Simp harder please ?
@FlyByKiwi
Right?! That was my exact thought, oh wow, it was only a couple of months ago? Damn.
I can’t wait until the election is over and this weird time dilation stops. Assuming, of course, that it does…
Well, the 3.5 hour long video is by a channel called WorldClassBullshitters so I guess they had something to prove?
And I concur that those puppies are adorable.
I’ve decided that it’s probably best to not wonder about the reasoning behind oddly specific YouTube channels ever since I learned about Sitting and Smiling.

Sometimes there is just weird shit on the internet.
First time I’ve ever rage subscribed to a YouTube channel. I like Brie, but I don’t subscribe to many channels usually.
There have been tumblrs and such featuring women in suits:

Give…me…a…break. Is this kind of infantile diaper filler REALLY all that these baby guys have to do with their lives?!?!?
I pity them for throwing away their time, talents and intelligence – however much or little they currently have – sticking one thumb up their posteriors and rotating as fast as they can while sucking furiously on the other thumb. And in between bouts of sucking and rotating they type their dribble all over the net.
No wonder they can’t find and live in a good, happy relationship. What woman or man would want to spend any time with such?
A word of advice, guys. Turn off your computer’s and tv’s, clean yourselves and your rooms (while you’re at it, help your moms by pitching in with the house and yard work), go back to school or get a job, find your own place (and do not take your dirty laundry home for mom to wash!), and spend some time actually talking with (not at) other people of all genders. If you want more, then learn to listen. These are all things you should have been doing all along!I
I promise you that you really can be happier. Of course, that’s assuming that you WANT to be happy and relate to and with others. I fear, from your droolings on the net, that wallowing in self-pity may be what many of you really want.
BRIE LARSON: The MOST TERRIBLE PERSON Ever Born, She Has Now RUINED EVERYTHING for Everyone, Including Her Boyfriend, for ETERNITY. It’s No Wonder SHE CAN’T WORK IN HOLLYWOOD — If There’s One Thing Show Business Can’t Stand, It’s a FAKE. The Only Good Thing About All of This Is That Her YOUTUBE Channel Is a FAILURE.
The best part is being simultaneously angry that the channel exists at all and that she’s posting so little on it.
It’s a betrayal of her viewers!!!
As a life-long cinematic snob, I’m insulted by these buffoons also bashing mainstream Hollywood actors and films without having any cinematographical culture. You can’t just step on our turf and start hating MCU without watching entire Tarkovsky’s filmography previously. It’s simply a cultural appropriation.
INSANT REGRET!
@Kat:
I used to like “Train Pulling into a Station”, but Brie Larson ruined it, along with the rest of the Lumière brothers’ work. She has also ruined Alison Brie, soft cheese, and Bree in Middle Earth.
@FlyByKiwi, Big Titty Demon
It’s weird to think just a few months ago we could leave our houses without worrying about getting sick. This quarantine feels endless.
@Amtep
It reminds me of the old joke: “the food here is terrible, and in such small portions!”
@Moggie
I’m surprised there are many non-manbaby analyses, generally when there are this many internet assholes that attack a movie it poisons the well for other commentary. Like how there are very few good faith critical looks at Anita Sarkeesian’s Tropes vs Women in Video Games.
@ moggie & dengler
Oh wow, this is so spooky. I saw Dengler’s post and was just about to reply something like “I too am a snob and refuse to watch anything since Train Pulling as it’s just all so derivative.” Then I saw your post!
This does not help my tendencies to solipsism
@Dengler:
That sounds like a lot of work. Can I just watch Lindsay Ellis instead?
“INSANT REGRET !” … of not proofreading your video thumbpic… (How many of the 69 viewers went just to point at that, we will never know…)
“”#Is Brie an attention seeker ?” for making videos and put them on youtube” asks someone who makes videos and put them on youtube.
200K views for the first one, though… With this name of a channel, that is again a proof that gamegaters are still kicking, alas…
Cry more, neckbeards.
@ocassional reader
Kicking, yes, but kicking desperately to stay relevant. What’s left of GamerGate is now grifters trying to find any way they can stay on the map by starting weird conflicts where there were none in other areas. For example, AnimeGate and ComicsGate. Or people like Milo Yiannopoulos, who is now blacklisted virtually everywhere and is a mockery even for the right wing.
Unfortunately, the damage is done, and the alt right has been established and mostly superseded GamerGate. That is the real lasting legacy.
Lindsay Ellis is so much fun!
@Moggie:
Train Entering A Station is just a lackluster remake of Bird & Birdcage On Opposite Sides Of A Spinning Disk.
Damn Brie and her time machine!
Relatively Off-topic but I’ve been seeing a lot of rumors that Disney is going to erase the Star Wars sequel trilogy from canon, mostly espoused by the same guys whining about Brie Larson, they seem convinced that they’re true and are treating them as a fact.
What’s your take on it?
