“Simp” is the new “cuck,” a catchall term that internet losers on the right and in the manosphere like to apply to any man who’s insufficiently misogynistic in their jaundiced eyes.
Just as the definition of “cuck” moved far beyond its literal meaning of a man whose partner is cheating on him to include any man who has sex with a woman who’s ever slept with anyone else ever, so simp is moving beyond its definition as a man who behaves in an obsequious manner towards women he hopes to bed to encompass all men who treat women with anything other than deep disrespect.
To one commenter in the MGTOW2 subreddit — a supposedly misogyny-free alternative to the much larger MGTOW subreddit — the word “simp” now means anyone who’s had sex with a woman, presumably because the shrieking misogyny of non-simps like him would tend to get in the way of consensual sex with women.
This post proved unpopular enough to win it nine downvotes from the denizens of MGTOW2. How sad and angry does a man have to be to alienate a bunch of MGTOWs with your excessive misogyny? I guess exactly this sad and angry.

This reminds me a bit of r/IncelsWithoutHate. It’s impossible to have a hate-free version of an ideology centered around hate, like how you don’t see Nazis against antisemitism.
I’m a little surprised MGTOWs downvoted him, maybe he’d find more agreement from incels?
They down voted him because, in their eyes, they aren’t incels. They have just decided that sex isn’t worth what it costs them. They could have all the sex they wanted if women were, you know, not evil. But since women are evil, then they are going to go their own way. Not like incels at all!!!!
They sure are good at hating each other. Beware the women for if you spend enough time around them you might like some of them.
I just can’t take the word “simp” seriously because of it’s use in the Judge Dredd comic. Simps were a sub culture of Mega City One who rebelled against the mores of the place by dressing as colourful clowns.
@Ooglyboggles
I feel sorry for the women who are having to spend time with MGTOWs. I can’t imagine any of the fondness would be reciprocated.
Of course. They’re MGTOWs — guys who eschew contact with women because women are demons — but they’re not about to give up sex (or at least the hope of sex) with women. Contradiction? They don’t worry about that. They’re MGTOWs.
@Naglfar
Could end up with those stuck to hear about their endless rants on a bad day and then hearing “one of the exceptions.”
Ooh, so that is why there is Bart Simpson ? I suppose every boy is a Simpson, then, according to this guy.
I’ve been seeing this word a lot in youtube comments. Anyone who expresses even mild, non-thirsty appreciation for a female youtuber’s work is a simp, apparently. Seems to be a lot of guys out there who want to make any polite interaction between men and women impossible. They’ll fail, just like they failed with “cuck”.
@Moggie
Honestly, I think “simp” is even less effective as an insult. “Cuck” actually had a somewhat well-known meaning, for “simp” most people don’t realize the meaning immediately and those who do will probably laugh it off much like “cuck.” I wonder when the alt right will realize that nobody actually finds these little insults insulting?
Wasn’t/isn’t “simp” in use already as a contraction (more-or-less) of simpleton? I remember it as such, at least, in a literary sense.
I’ve been seeing rising use of the term elsewhere—was wondering if others were, too.
I’m having a hard time finding fault with the results that this reasoning would have. Sure, the reasoning is misogynist, but the result would be another misogynist man avoiding women. That’s almost pure win; the only down side I see would be if said misogynist man were in a position to mentor and uplift women in, say, the workplace and refuses to do it because: misogyny. Does that balance out the reduction in sexual harassment that would result if misogynist men truly went their own way? I don’t think so, because a misogynist man who doesn’t avoid women wasn’t going to do those things anyway. So if misogynist men choose to avoid women, we fail to get things that we were going to fail to get anyway, and we cut down on some badness in the process.
Yes, the ideal would be no misogyny at all, but I live in the world we have, not the world I want.
Funny how with these guys, the only one way of being a real, true Alpha Male is doing exactly what they themselves are doing. I’m sure that’s just a lucky coincidence. No one’s hiding any insecurities under all of that, nosiree.
@Aachen
Yes, I believe that’s the original meaning, though it seems that now it’s just another generic alt-right insult that has superseded “cuck.”
Yes, I have noticed more of it, both in the people we mock here and elsewhere.
@Policy of Madness
The issue we run into time and time again is that MGTOWs never seem to actually go their own way. Instead they just spend all their time complaining about the women they’re supposedly going their own way from and being assholes to women IRL (and also being assholes to anyone who doesn’t agree with them, woman or not).
@Masse_mysteria
Yes, funny coincidence that. I bet they just won the birth lottery to be Tr00-born Alpha Males and everyone else needs to respect that. /s

Oh, I know. But if one of them is trying to convince the others to do that, who am I to stop him? Why would I want to? I don’t even necessarily want to make fun of this fool. I encourage him to pull as many others into his orbit as he can.
Simp = simpering, simpleton, sympathetic…?
I guess sympathy would be against MGTOW values too. Real alpha men don’t have feelings. Or, if they do have feelings, they’re not the weak, feminine feelings that women have. Self-pity and whining? Nah! A moving, powerful evocation of the plight of men in a gynocentric society through the eyes of a lone MGTOW? Well, that’s different!! /s
@Moggie – re “thirsty” – I’m just afraid that, when I’m older, I’ll innocently say “I’m thirsty,” making all young people within hearing range snicker because by then its mainstream meaning will be “horny” 😛
@PoM – welcome back!! I haven’t seen you in a while – then again, I’ve also been busy a lot.
@epitome
Thank you! You haven’t missed anything – I haven’t been around for a while. Some things happened and I decided I needed to take a big step back from the internet in general.
I’m pretty sure “simp” is short for “simpering” but what do I know.
@epitome of incomprehensibility
They only have feelings like RAGE and LUST and AGGRESSION!
All joking aside, I think some men genuinely do think that anger and related feelings are the only acceptable emotions to show. This may in some way relate to the retort “facts don’t care about your feelings,” as they have convinced themselves that other feelings are evil and to be suppressed. There is also a perfect correlation between people who unironically say that “facts don’t care about your feelings” and who prefer to listen to their own feelings over science and facts.
@Naglfar:
And, because they are convinced that their opinions are actually facts rather than feelings, they will completely fail to see the hypocrisy.
Don’t forget hungry
they can feel hungry to.
@ epitome of incomprehensibility
That’s why whenever I say it I immediately have a beer; just to ensure there are no misunderstandings.
@francis
True, but True Alpha Males can only eat raw red meat anyway.
@Naglfar
All joking aside, I think some men genuinely do think that anger and related feelings are the only acceptable emotions to show.
That is absolutely true, and the reason it’s true is that men are taught from very young that they must not be like women. Women are stereotyped as “weak” with “weak” emotions – emotions that show vulnerability. Vulnerability = femininity to a certain line of thought that you will see even today in many men, men who don’t even have to necessarily be openly misogynist. Men are stereotyped as “strong” and “protective” but there’s nothing to protect if a woman isn’t vulnerable and weak, so they equate vulnerability to femininity.
And if a man absolutely must not be like a woman, and women are vulnerable, then men absolutely cannot be vulnerable. The only emotions they are allowed to express are “strong” ones like anger. They aren’t allowed to be afraid, or sad, or open about their feelings, because that unmans them. It makes them feminine, and that’s not permitted. There’s a bunch of homophobia wrapped up in this, too, obviously, but the root of a lot of homophobia (not all of it, but a lot) is misogyny and the belief that women are inferior, therefore: man must not be like woman.
@Naglfar
I think maybe that is part of the whole point. Such rhetoric, wither it be motivated and in service to racism, sexism, Incel’s, MGTOW’s or any other flavor of the Alt-right: is made, used and intended to be this obscure, esoteric, difficult to decipher and impenetrably opaque phrase, word or terminology to serve as an alt-right ‘virtue signaling’ in-joke for bigots and hat mongers.
It’s a tool they use to pejoratively insult, ridicule, make slur against and dismiss anyone who doesn’t share their notions and values or who denounces them and in order to appeal to and make nods to their fellow hate mongers and ilk.
The lexicon of alt-right aligned types and those other various right wing bigots, racists, sexists, homophobes and other hate mongers reminds my of a quote by J.R.R. Tolkien when he spoke of “Orc’s and Trolls”, which as follows:
“But Orcs and Trolls spoke as they would, without love of words or things; and their language was actually more degraded and filthy than I have shown it. I do not suppose that any will wish for a closer rendering, though models are easy to find. Much the same sort of talk can still be heard among the orc-minded; dreary and repetitive with hatred and contempt, too long removed from good to retain even verbal vigor, save in the ears of those to whom only the squalid sounds strong.”
I think perhaps on a philosophical level; people like the modern alt-right and the bigots of Tolken’s time were likely what he meant he wrote of and first conceptualized Fantasy Orc’s and Trolls: as allegory for those who are consumed and embrace hatred, malice and lust for conquest with blood soaked swords. Although granted, perhaps that initial crucible of conception has become lost and contorted into Racially unfortunate implications overtime due to misuse and overuse without critical understanding for Tolken’s initial use and trope codification of Orc’s and Trolls.
My understanding of this possible, and in my impression, likely thesis; is that Tolekn’s Lord of the Rings literature was greatly influnced and shaped by his service in WW1, and his service during the Battle of the Somme in particular.
@PoM, and that attitude can get people killed, in more ways than one. Right now, taking sensible precautions during a pandemic is seen as showing vulnerability. Real men don’t “cower” at home, or keep a safe distance from others, or wear a mask. Real men don’t fear no virus, because they’ve got an AR-15.
