Incels celebrate the ways they think the coronavirus shutdowns will improve their lives

There will be a lot less of this going on

By David Futrelle

Social Distancing, however necessary in the fight against the coronavirus, is going to be hard for most of us.

But there are some who are positively thrilled about the shutdowns of schools and bars and international travel. Over on the Incels.co forums the regulars were already excited about the coronavirus possibly killing off Stacies and Chads; they’re also feeling pretty darn good that shutdowns and social distancing mean they won’t have to see the Stacies and Chads who remain alive.

Yesterday, a gentleman called Hardworkingcel posted this:

Incels, always happy to sacrifice the lives of others if it makes them feel even a teensy bit better for a little while.

And it isn’t just Hardworkingcel who’s feeling a new spring in his step; many of his fellow incels are even more excited by the new developments than he is.

“The more deaths, the better, the less competition,” wrote a commenter called Koruga.

“Corona is the best thing thats ever happened to me tbh,” someone called Venomcore noted.

CrackingYs, meanwhile, gushed:

I’ve honestly never been happier in my life. I can’t wait to wake up each morning anxious and excited to read about all the new ways that normies lives are being destroyed. Day after day their suffering intesifies and my anxiety decreases and overal happiness increases.

The future is bright indeed my frens.

Incels, it seems, can only truly be happy when others are suffering.

@Naglfar

Sounds to me like you can’t stand people who disagree with your way of thinking.

Let me be upfront and real, having pages like this shows that y’all know no different than the incels that y’all talked about. Than again you’llprobably feel a certain kind of way about my opinion too opinion to cause I’m not following the Borg hive mind way of thinking.

So far, this page has been pretty good at not cheering on murderers.

And that’s just one difference from incels.

Not sure which of my comments you take issue with, but my problem isn’t with people who have different opinions. No, I have a problem with people wanting to murder people. Murder is bad.

Well, seeing as incels spend all their time rambling about how awful women and minorities are and how they are the most oppressed ever and we don’t do that here, I don’t really think we’re all that similar. The only similarity I can find is that we both use letters to make words, which is true of any forum.

I’m not following the Borg hive mind way of thinking.

I always laugh at the projection when conservatives accuse the left of being a hive mind when all conservatives ever do is repeat the same slogans ad nauseum and worship various figures uncritically (Jordan Peterson, Donald Trump, etc).

Let me be upfront and real

Imma stop you right there, fam. You’re not “upfront” or “real” for “defending” incels. You’re intellectually dishonest and/or an ignorant dingus. These folks use their social woes and bitterness at such to advocate things like rape, sexual slavery, revocation of civil rights, even outright murder. They laugh and take joy in the spread of a deadly virus by telling themselves it will benefit them by hurting others.

Most people with more than two brain cells playing tag and at least an iota of decency will quickly realize that putting the community of a site dedicated to documenting and calling out such behavior is most definitely not on the same ethical level as those actually engaging in that behavior. Look up false equivalency.

I have differences of opinion with people on this site. I’m not a drone part of a group hive mind. IIRC some of the people here at least like Anita Sarkeesian, I find her rather pedantic and condescending among other things. Yet we still manage to get along fine, despite this “irreconcilable” difference of opinion (DISCLAIMER: I haven’t watched any vid of hers in years, but I haven’t watched vids by Sargon of Assad for about the same time, also because of personal dislike; no this isn’t a false equivalency because I happily admit that for all her IMO flaws, she’s very definitely the better, less disgusting choice compared to Sargon, Thunderf00t, Amazing Atheist et al. – IIRC she hasn’t told any of her fans to mount a campaign of harrassment and death threats against them, nor lauded their actions afterwards).

Also, look up “projection” and “Golden Mean fallacy”. Both seem to apply to you.

FWIW I appreciate Anita Sarkeesian’s work, though I can see why people might not like her style. I think part of it is to do with a lowest common denominator approach: some people whom her videos are aimed at might not know much about feminism or other issues she discusses, so she has to speak in a way that those viewers can understand. Her podcast (Feminist Frequency Radio) is somewhat less so, as she seems to recognize that most people who actively seek out her podcasts know more about feminism and other topics so she can go into deeper discussions of theory.
My biggest issue I have with her is that in the past she has used some rather sex worker-exclusionary language (in a few of the Tropes vs. Women videos she called sex workers “prostituted women,” which is a favorite of SWERFs that strips women of their agency) and then when called out she refused to apologize and doubled down. Nevertheless, that was one or two isolated incidents a few years ago and she hasn’t done that since.

@Allandrel

I had previously believed it to be a rather uncontroversial opinion, but it seems it is a surprisingly hot take these days.

@Naglfar – Oh, I completely agree that Sarkeesian raises a lot of points that should be raised. IIRC my issues stemmed from her rather confrontational and moral absolutist (to my mind) approach – i.e., “because there’s X in game Y, game Y is bad and you should feel bad for liking it”. But as I said, I haven’t watched or listened to anything by her in a while – maybe she’s become more nuanced since then, or maybe it was how I interpreted things back then; in any case, while I admit freely being not that knowledgeable on feminism beyond the basics, the lowest common denominator and I always had a terrible relationship, so maybe I felt on some level that I was being talked down to or some other thing that put me off.

Also, strictly historically speaking, not rooting for murderous assholes on a sociological level is a rather recent phenomenon, so I’m not surprised that many, many people are going back to the “tried-and-true” old ways that “sustained society” in the past (you know, like slavery, raids for plunder and booty (both kinds), and systematic institutionalized torture).

I don’t want to start an argument and you are of course entitled to your view point, but I don’t recall her saying that. She included disclaimers in at least some of her videos that it was possible and at times necessary to criticize media that we enjoy, and that that didn’t mean we couldn’t enjoy it. Though I can understand why you might not like that aspect of the videos, and that’s valid.

Fair enough, I can understand that.

@Naglfar – No prob, like I said anyway that was some time ago. And it was more the impression she gave me than her straight-up saying it, to be fair. Maybe I’ll revisit her stuff one of these days. Should be much less of an unpleasant chore than doing the same for Sargon.

@Naglfar

Yeah, I watched some of Sarkeesian’s stuff and certainly agreed with it, but did not continue because it was largely introducing people to ideas that I was already very familiar with, so I was clearly not the target audience.

Agreed about the “prostituted women” language. To hear SWERFs talk, every female sex worker was trafficked. The most telling thing for me about SWERFs is that actual sex workers regard them the way autistic people regard Autism Speaks.

Speaking of which, since next month is April a lot of people might be doing AS’s #LightItUpBlue. Sigh. I’ve heard various autistic folks online discussing some alternatives such as wearing red instead (because not all autistic people are men) or the color gold, so maybe that’s an option to reduce damage.

@Naglfar

It really says something that AS’ “raising awareness of autism” campaign is exactly like a “raising awareness of cancer” campaign, doesn’t it?

To AS and its supporters, autism isn’t part of who we are. It’s a disease preventing us from being the perfect “normal” children that they deserve.

@Allandrel
And whenever any autistic person tries to raise alarm and point out that AS is a hate group, we get shot down by some autism martyr parent telling us we aren’t really autistic, or that we don’t know about “severe” autism.
In the internet circles I frequent, people have been trying to raise awareness of how awful AS is, but I fear that we’re preaching to the choir while most people don’t notice or don’t care.
