Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.
Well, at least it’s a day off, right? Enjoy this open thread, and try to enjoy the day.
Here’s a panda video?
We Hunted the Mammoth relies entirely on readers like you for its survival. If you appreciate our work, please send a few bucks our way! Thanks!
Funny how the people convinced Obama was going to do a military coup because of a training exercise in Texas and a Walmart going out of business don’t have a problem having a massive military deployment including tanks on the streets of Washington D.C., with government officials all gathered in one place.
Hi, can I just take an opportunity to plug this?

A bunch of animal rights organisations here, teaming up with Extinction Rebellion
I don’t know how familiar people are with XR, but this is a nice overview.

I especially love how diverse and disparate the groups involved are. We’ve got anarchists, businesses, punks, hippies, faith groups, academics in suits…. all sorts. And whilst the groups may be diametrically opposed on some issues; they’ve all come together to support the one cause they have in common. I think it’s a good model. We’ve got twelve years to save the planet for the kids. We can all fall out again and be at each others throats once we’ve sorted that.
Don Combover just doesn’t get it does he ? I thought Independence Day was meant to be a chance for all Americans to kick back and party in celebration of being an independent country, not an ego boost for the White House incumbent of the day.
I think I’ll take the panda, to take my mind off having to work both jobs today. :/
I posted the following in the music open thread right before this one went up, so I’m reposting the non-music bits here, where everyone’s at. So without further ado….
Fast question for David: if someone stumbles across a graphic that they feel might be of use in illustrating a post in the future, would you want to see them? And if so, how would you want them sent to you?
For those around here who have arachnophobia, is that fear triggered by viewing an anthropological drawing of a spider, instead of just pictures of real ones? I have this idea bouncing around my head involving steampunk spider characters, and wanted to know if there was a way to design them without triggering arachnophobia in potential viewers/players. Because I don’t want to scare folks because of that, ya know? (In the far distant future when this thing might actually be done enough to show to the public, that is.)
My thanks in advance for your help.

Love to you all, and solidarity from a land currently being threatened with Boris Bloody Johnson.
@Redsilkphoenix:
Did you mean ‘anthropomorphic’ rather than ‘anthropological’?
I have so much work.
Aaah
Aaaaaaaaah
How is everyone else?
@Jenora Feuer
Yes. >.<
Am bad mythical bird.
🙁
In encouraging news, Marvel has had enough of cops putting Punisher skulls on stuff, and put an entire scene in the latest issue of The Punisher with Frank telling off cops and ripping up their decals.
Seeing cops idolizing someone who murders people with no regard for the law has been troubling, and I’m glad to see pushback.
@Alan that is lovely
(well sad that its needed ofc)
I’m relaxing because this is the first day off I’ve had in weeks. (Stupid weekend go-lives for multiple customers.) In a few minutes here, I’m going to bake chocolate muffins because chocolate muffins are yummy.
At some point I will take a break from relaxing to point towards Donald Trump and laugh mockingly at him.
@Betrayer:
But are the Marvel Powers That Be indignant about police embracing vigilante ideology, or just copyright infringement?
For Trump’s parade, I think the DoD should have told him that it would showcase their stealth technology… and then just not show up.
@Jenora Feuer
Yes. >.<
Oops.
((WordPress seems to have eaten an earlier version of this comment, so I’m making a new one to make the old one appear again.))
@Moggie *hearts suggestion*
This week is Pride week in the UK.
I wish everyone a Happy Pride but let’s not forget our Turkish LGBTQI sisters and brothers who were set upon by the police earlier this week.
@Moggie: Agreed. The emperor’s new military…
Oh, by the way…I saw a tee shirt yesterday portraying a conservative version (reclaiming?) of the LGBT letters.
L – Liberty (featuring a Statue of Liberty, of course)
G – Guns (of course >..< )
Just thought folks here would like to know that existed.
Today in the grocery store parking lot, I saw a car with two bumper stickers.
First sticker: “Okay, joke’s over. Bring back the Constitution.”
Me: “Tell me about it.”
Second Sticker: “Trump: Make America Great Again”
Me: “DOES NOT COMPUTE”
@Allandrel
I’ve seen the same kind of thing. Always the ones who scream the most about the constitution that care the least. Reminds me of this article from a few years back: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/flag-burning-shows-conservatives-dont-want-freedom_b_595d527de4b0cf3c8e8d55e1?m=false
O/T, but also, how do I change my avatar icon?
@Naglfar,
Via Gravatar. Go there, and follow their instructions to change it.
Also, grab one of the Welcome Packages while you’re at it. I think it even includes more instructions on how to change your icon too.
Just half of that LGBT comment posted? O.o
The full thing, now (hopefully)
L – Liberty (featuring a Statue of Liberty, of course)
G – Guns (of course >..< )
ETA: WordPress refuses to show the full list, even though there was no coding used to make it. But the last two items were Beer, and Trump.
And yeah, the gun was an assault rifle.
I disclaim, in the most vehement terms possible, my letter’s association with that vile man.
@Redsilkphoenix
Thank you for your help in setting up the new icon.
Online gaming communities are the worst, right? Well… sometimes not. How a video game community filled my nephew’s final days with joy.
