It’s Sunday, so I thought I’d take a break from the terrible and share some good, in the form of some music I’ve been enjoying a lot lately.
First, some videos, then a Spotify playlist featuring these songs and many others. In the case of Nadine Shah, it’s a different song b/c she doesn’t have a video for the song in my playlist. But it’s no loss; the replacement is just as good.
Oh, and the lyrics for one of these songs are based on text messages sent by the artist to her friends. Which results in a a lot of non sequitur surrealism. But which song?
Anyway, consider this an open thread. Share your current music favorites in the comments below!
And here’s the playlist:

De-lurking to say:
Moggie, I was going to post that very track. That album has been in heavy rotation for me for almost a year. A great song from a great concept album, such a rarity these days.
Tim gueguen, another vintage Canuck here. The Irish Rovers were very much a part of my childhood, and Spirit of the West were a big part of my 20’s. I must have seen them a dozen times or more, including one Christmas show at the Railway in Vancouver where before the second set John announced “If you want to keep any of your illusions about us, you should leave now.” Whereupon the they proceeded to get drunk and play things like Silent Night in the style of Bob Dylan with bagpipe accompaniment. Truly one of the best live bands I’ve seen. Much missed.
TL;DR folks here have excellent taste!
This beautiful version of “Danzas Espanolas” helps me forget how awful the world is for five minutes. These two guitarists play as if they’re one person.
I’ve been listening to a lot of Mamamoo, Shinee, Dua Lipa

Just finished Netflix’s documentary on Robert Johnson…fascinating.
Oh hey, a fellow Moomoo on WHTM ?
Well, looks like the video I posted never showed up, so let’s try it again. Like @ObSidJag, my music tastes are very eclectic, with a random grab bag of whatever I find on youtube (as well as suggestions from mammothers, like this post)
What I was trying to post:
That video I thought I saw earlier:
I thought I saw Hadestown earlier, but I guess that was another trick of the youtube algorithm. Which is a shame, because that whole album deserves more attention.
I know this song has been posted here before (It’s how I found it) but it deserves repeating:
And given the state the world’s in, I think this video might be somewhat appropriate:

My mom listened to some Irish music when I was growing up, with what I remember most being Celtic Woman. Lately I’ve been searching for that kind of music on my own, which lead me to find bands like the Irish Rovers and the Dubliners. I must have been listening to a lot, as eventually the youtube algorithm spat an entire Irish language music channel at me:

My introduction to Korean music was this song, which I found on a Overwatch video on Twitter, of all places (It was a short clip of D.Va pushing someone off the edge of the map, with this song’s chorus playing over it)
Too late to edit my last post, I just wanted to add:
Whenever Incel’s blather on about sex robots, my mind always turns to this song:
Not music, but I learned a new French (Quebecois) swear word today! “Décâlisser” is basically “fuck off”: I saw some antifa (?) stickers today around the Guy-Concordia metro that said “Racists, fuck off” in English and for the French they used “décâlissez.”
I’d heard “câlisse” before – it comes from the word for the communion cup (chalice). A lot of Quebecois swear words have religious origins. But I didn’t know you could VERB it!
Also, yeah, racists can fuck right off.

All people should be made to take this lesson:

(Not sure if the English subtitles will show up automatically, but you can add them at need.)

I love 4minute! I’m not super into kpop, so I’m not up on a lot of the groups, but they were my favorite before they went defunct. now my favorite is probably TWICE, though again, I’m much more into Japanese music than Korean, so I don’t hear a lot of Korean groups.
Uh I guess SGDQ was this past week and the last run reminded me of how good the Chrono Trigger soundtrack is: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL21BAA7C6EDEB63A3
Also I’m admitting to myself that I have/had some kind of crush on one of the staff I was talking about before, because I’m pretty sure she has a really long-standing relationship and I’m taking it a bit harder than I thought I would. I thought about it and realized there’s maybe one other person I’ve been kind of regularly talking to who’s near my age.
A little late to the party:
Sofi Tukker – Batshit
This one makes me giggle.
Two songs I found in previous posts here, and reshare now.

Fast question for David: if someone stumbles across a graphic that they feel might be of use in illustrating a post in the future, would you want to see them? And if so, how would you want them sent to you?
For those around here who have arachnophobia, is that fear triggered by viewing an anthropological drawing of a spider, instead of just pictures of real ones? I have this idea bouncing around my head involving steampunk spider characters, and wanted to know if there was a way to design them without triggering arachnophobia in potential viewers/players. Because I don’t want to scare folks because of that, ya know? (In the far distant future when this thing might actually be done enough to show to the public, that is.)
My thanks in advance for your help.
Or I may just repost those questions in the new open thread, which wasn’t there when I started the last post. :/
