The Majority Report chronicles Jordan Peterson’s increasingly bananas comments about women

Jordan Peterson: U mad, bro?

By David Futrelle

I ran across this Tweet this morning from an intrepid Jordan Peterson debunker on Twitter and, well, it’s pretty much spot on:

https://twitter.com/zei_nabq/status/1083015376022224896

For evidence of this, we need look no further than some of the off-the-cuff comments about birth control and the allegedly scary consequences of women controlling their own sexuality that Peterson recently made to a small audience that included, among others, Charlie Kirk, “Bumble Jack” Posobiec, and weirdo MAGA couple Donald Trump Jr. and Kimberly Guilfoyle at Turning Point USA’s annual Student Action Summit.

As Sam Seder points out in this clip from his Majority Report show, Peterson seems to be pushing the idea that what he sees as feminists’ preoccupation with sexual consent is basically a left-wing “sexual taboo” roughly equivalent to the right-wing “taboo” against gay sex. (Peterson being Peterson, he doesn’t quite come out and say this outright.)

Sam has been taking on Peterson’s nonsense for some time. Here’s another video in which Sam discusses a Peterson appearance on the Joe Rogan show in which Rogan, an oddball in his own right but still pretty sharp, gobsmacks the Canadian beef-eater by pointing out a very basic issue with his promotion of “enforced monogamy.”

While Peterson’s  utterances do seem to be getting weirder by the day, he’s been saying awful crap about the often fraught relationship between women and men for years. And for a time, during a sort of pickup artist phase, he did so dressed like a 1930s gangster.

Sam’s got a video on that, too.

And this guy is seen as a leading light in the “intellectual dark web.” It’s really a testament to how fucked up this political moment is that a cornball weirdo like Peterson is taken seriously by anyone at all, much less the adoring throngs that attend his talks and watch his videos and buy his books.

I really wonder about his lab results sometimes. That beef diet can’t be doing him any good.

Between the lobster and the beef, Peterson is fast becoming the Surf & Turf Philosopher of the Intellectual Dark Web… I’m assuming his next magnum opus will be a recipe book ?

I had a real-life argue with a real-life Peterson fan some weeks ago, before Christmas. His fans really, really don’t care what he actually says. Doesn’t concern them. This dood at least was very quick to dismiss anything negative as just joking or you need to get the full context or whatever.

Con Artistry 101: Be vague, mumble things your audience wants to believe, pepper in some truth, and laugh your way to your Patreon account. They won’t care if you’re wrong, or horrid, or whatever. Very Trumpish.

Lots of analogues to fascism, too. Fascists are free to joke and make light of everything. It’s a constant defense. Peterson is more “you don’t understand me” than he is “i’m just joking” but it’s very similar. Quelle suprise.

Right now he’s busy sawing off the branch he’s sitting on.

He’s going to leave patreon next week. Because patreon kicking off Carl of Swindon is a great affront to free speech. Seriously.

Carlgon used a racial slur. That’s why he was kicked off. He’s admitted that he promised UKIP not to use the slur in question again or they’d kick him out.

Turns out cis white dudes facing consequences for saying the N-word is the hill Peterson wants to die on.

And Rubin is right there with him.

Seriously. Those people…

Wonder if some people listen to these videos all the way through? These are 2-3 hours conversations, taking tiny pieces out of context might be missing some key information. Just saying.

Off topic, but I saw the king of manspreaders today. This guy was in the aisle seat, lying against his girlfriend who was in the window seat. His legs were stretched across the aisle with one foot resting on the seat across. So, he was taking up four spots, the aisle, and blocking the back of the bus so no one could get in or out.

Wow. The amount of hate Peterson gets is really high. I mean, the man speaks about passionate subjects but I don’t think he deserves to be called a “cornball weirdo”.
He has made mistakes and even apologized about the enforced monogamy comment.
On the patreon subject, we all know he is 200% for free speech so his departure from the platform is nothing but congruent with his thinking.

@ wwth, Oogly:

Really, we’re all rude jerks, or at least we’re socialized to be.. . Some of make a real effort to show it more, tho.

re; Surf’n’Turf *Jordan, you CANT take anything he says out of context — nothing ever HAS a context. He never actually completes a thought or actually makes a point; every utterance is filled with utter bullshit, and is concrete enough to allow his fans to believe he said what they want to hear, but is never a coherent argument. He preaches to a choir which has no idea what he’s talking about, and has even less concern. Seriously, the igno-right of today has the credulity of a bunch of grade schoolers swapping urban legends during a back-yard sleepover.

* Yup, that’s officially his new name

Yeah this guys gets on my nerves. He’s constantly verging on conspiracy theorist levels of crack pot ideas. But as he gets ever closer to the JQ he never seems to have a final solution. Like Weird (and tied of Chinamen) Eddie said; he never finishes a god damn thought. Just come out and say it Jordan. Those fucking Jews are behind everything.

See, whenever we criticize Peterson, all we’re talking about is the bit of heel sticking out of the water. We don’t have the full context provided by the rest of the bodies, which the lobsters can perceive through their magical lorgnettes.

And yet, somehow, we’re still able to tell they’re heels.

@weirwood: That’s when you bust out the cable ties.

epitome of incomprehensibility

The deflection in the 2nd video! Rogan asks Peterson something like, “Wait, doesn’t your idea of ‘enforced monogamy’ go against your problem with what you see as enforced equality?”

Peterson’s “answer” is something like: “Well, promiscuity is bad because it leads to men neglecting their children.”

Way to avoid the question and shift goalposts.

Hate to say it, but this article seems to be purposefully misleading. I read both good and bad stuff about Jordan Peterson all the time, and this kind of bad press always does the mistake of characterizing him as “alt-right” or irrational, simply because he proposes a different world-view and sometimes tries to propose hypothesies to describe the world. Hear him out first, most of the time, he’s not making a point, but rather trying to further a dialogue, he proposes tentative explanations based on statistics and his psychological background.

Instead of slandering him or calling him an alt-right, how about you rationally evaluate and challenge his ideas?

I can’t say I’m keeping up to date with every J.Peterson quote on the net, however this article does the usual misinterpretation of the “enforced monogamy” thing. I can agree that sometimes he phrases his points so that without the whole text it can be misinterpreted easily.

The fact that worries me most, however, is tve circlejerk in the comments with little proper critique and mostly just taunting of those who like his rhetoric. How do you expect to make someone see Peterson’s comments for the supposed bullshit they are, if you’re being condescending? That’s not how you change minds, that’s how you deepen the divide.

Yes, you all can keep believing in a mythical wage gap, the oppression of women in a patriarcal society. Peterson is espousing truths that you don’t want to hear because it grinds so basely against your liberal world view. Problem is that if you end up getting what you want, you wont like the result. Thing is, you all live in the freest, most tolerant society ever created by mankind. Built over centuries by the same men you pillory and demonize today. Change it too much and the result wont be pretty. Just a warning from a wiser one.

I’ve used the following analogy to Lobsterkin:
Granted that some of what Jeep has to say is worthwhile*, it’s like a pint of fresh spring water. Once you add a tablespoon of raw sewage**, I’m not going to want to drink it, and telling me that it’s *mostly* water is not going to change my mind.

Surf and turf is a good line; I’ll have to remember that.

*None of which is original to him.

**Most of which is original to him.
