Hot new Jordan Peterson music video drops!

Angry Jordan Peterson fans react to someone saying something vaguely critical about him on Twitter. (Artist’s conception. The fans are the giant monster, BTW)

By David Futrelle

A reader alerted me to this hot new Jordan Peterson video. No, not a video of him going on about women being chaos or “cultural marxists” trying to destroy civilization with gay marriage and trans pronouns. No, this is a song about Peterson and what a shit he is.

I’m not generally that into parody songs but this one’s actually pretty … good, especially coming from a band called Buddy Puked. (The bridge needs work, but the rest kind of rocks.)

The fans are the giant monster, BTW

Ah, but who is the real giant monster, the massive terrifying space creature with the huge pincers and the mandibles; or the man?

It’s the massive space thing isn’t it?

@StR: “Bridge” is music-speak for “the part of the song where the melody changes before changing back.” It’s extremely common in Western popular songs. In this song, the bridge is the section that begins with “The great natural hierarchies” and ends with “Any other theory is a lie.”

That was fun, first up on my Saturday morning šŸ˜ Reminded me a little bit of the Dead Kennedys at some points.
Given that it’s impossible to actually discuss JP with his fans, I guess mocking is the next best option. Like all those memes of him with giant lobster claws.

@Surplus to Requirements; @Mrs. Obed Marsh:

Note further that a musical bridge in a traditionally structured pop single often lasts for eight bars, hence the alternate term “middle eight.”

Clearly before the song they should compress the complete works of Jordan Peterson into one half-second blat of noise, then there can be no possible critique of this work. The context is right there! (And is just as clear and decipherable as it is in any other form.)

@Mish of the Cat Lady Ascendancy:

You’re right, it IS reminiscent of the Dead Kennedys, as well as Black Flag, a little bit.

Something tells me that if Oprah was still doing her show she’d have incels on. And somehow make a bunch of people feel sympathetic to them.

Oprah for the incels! Love it.

That would probably hurt him worse than anything. I still remember when Jonathan Franzen was trying to get into Oprah’s Book Club without having the seal on his covers, because that would make him look like a writer that women read. “Do I want millions more in sales, or do I want to avoid looking middlebrow? WHY IS LIFE SO HARD FOR AN ARTIST?”

Hee. “Bow down to the patriarch/Who hands out grades but doesn’t call them marks.”

One of my fave bits of 60s trivia: the Cream song “Badge” got its name because Eric Clapton couldn’t read George Harrison’s handwriting while they were working on the song together. He mistook “Bridge” for “Badge”.

One of those rare visual Mondegreens.

This song made me want to go get my old leather jacket back out.

They sound like The Dead Kennedys, but maybe a little Vandals, too?

Either way, Jordan Peterson’s a clown.

@ buttercup

And of course there’s In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. Although that started as a regular mondegreen and got written down wrong.

@Alan “Wait a minute, that sounds like rock and/or roll.”

There’s also mondegreens’ cousin, soramimi, in which lyrics in one language get misheard as words in the listener’s native language (the French lyrics in “Michelle” being a good example).

In Japanese, “I Want To Hold Your Hand” sounds like “idiotic public urination”.

“I Want To Hold Your Handā€…ā€œidiotic public urinationā€.

I’ll take ‘How things usually start and finish on a date’ for 500 please Alex.

I’m glad I’d swallowed my gulp of coffee before I read Pirate Jennie’s comment.

I’m also glad I decided to put the coffee down before I read Alan’s.

Thumbs up on the song. But, I’d like to know where I can locate my “yams.”
