MGTOWs celebrate International Women’s Day by airing grievances against ungrateful female parasites

Phasers set to “waaaaaaah!”

By David Futrelle

Today (March 8th) is International Women’s Day, also known as International “Men Being Dicks About International Women’s Day” Day — and few men are celebrating that second holiday more enthusiastically than Reddit’s contingent of Men Going Their Own Way.

Reddit’s MGTOWs celebrated, or pretended that they had celebrated, the holiday in an assortment of ways, from jerking off to porn, to playing videogames, to jerking off to porn.

A few of these alleged “celebrations” bore more than a slight resemblance to symptoms of depression.

But many others — perhaps influenced by the imaginary holiday Festivus, famously invented by George Costanza’s father on Seinfeld — set aside the day for the ritual Airing of Grievances.

So in other words, today was a day like every other on the MGTOW subreddit, only a little more so than usual.

Some of their complaints:

Women are “fuckin leeches.”

Correction: UNGRATEFUL fuckin leeches.

They’re unprofessional.

They make bad music.

Actually, they’re bad at all artistic endeavors:

They were really bitchy during the last Internationa Men’s Day.

They sometimes entice “simps” into wishing them a happy International Women’s Day in order to get laid.

They’re not even oppressed!

I can’t quite figure out what exactly women are doing to piss this dude off.

A few of the regulars decided to declare today “International MGTOW Day,” apparently forgetting that less than a month ago they had declared Valentine’s Day to be “International MGTOW Day.”

And then there’s this guy, who tried to paste a link to this in the comments here, evidently not realizing or not caring that he’s permabanned because, well, he regularly tries to post shit like this here, which is unhinged even by MGTOW standards.

'International women's day' as a day of mourning for the millions of men killed by the gynocentric regime? (self.MGTOW) submitted 14 hours ago * by RevolutionaryMGTOW Why not mourn for the men who have been killed by gynocentrism throughout the many years instead of 'celebrating' this day to appease those who are incharge of the regime that persecutes, and causes the suffering along with deaths of so many men? It might be 'international women's day' or soon but I would like to express the reality of as well as solidarity to the millions of men who have had their lives lost from the murderous gynocentric regime and its actions against us men. Taking into account this occurrence, gynocentrism is murderous and its victims need to be remembered or mourned for:

Wait, what?

Setting aside the alleged ongoing genocide of men for now, have a very happy International Women’s Day!

Its so bizarre most the artists I listen too are women and I have yet to hear a song fitting that description,
granted a good chunk of that is Yuki Kajiura’s work so its not like I actually know what its about in the first place a lot of the time.

Related, that David retweeted. If you want a nice little WTF thread:

Long way to go. 🙁

epitome of incomprehensibility

Art is abstract. Even most female singers don’t make their own material. They are just actors. Get up there and moan and whine while a man plays all the instuments and mixes it.

I dunno, that sounds pretty “abstract” to me. I mean, indistinct whining is fairly non-representational. (Your whining, on the other hand, is non-abstract and thus Not Art.)

Happy International Women’s Day!

Happy birthday, Robert!

I listen to way less than 1% women artists in music. Out of the 2,538 songs on my phone, only 48 songs have a woman in it. Of those songs, 6 songs are from The Wizard of Oz soundtrack, 1 song is from Louis Armstrong’s song Summertime which features Ella Fitzgerald, 28 songs are from a group called Oh Wonder who is a man & woman duet (actually pretty good), and the other 13 songs are from Shirley Temple movies. In my music library, 20/48 songs with women in it are <1940. Women in music is pure shit. I watch literally 0 female YouTubers. 100% of YouTubers I watch are male

Musicians (this is just a list of music that I listen to… there are a lot more, not just in terms of who I listen to, but in general):

Sister Rosetta Tharpe (I maintain that she’s the one who truly invented Rock and Roll)
Hazel Scott (if you like the symphonic rock keyboards of artists like Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman, I’d argue that Hazel Scott is really the start of that… she became famous for playing two pianos, which at the time was not a thing in the popular consciousness AFAIK)
Anna Calvi
Chantel McGregor (she’s one of my favorite modern Blues Rock guitarists and, IMO, criminally underrated)
Orianthi
SHEL
First Aid Kit
Ava Mendoza
Kaki King
Summer Twins (the rhythm guitarist and bassist of this group are dudes, but the lead singer/lead guitarist and drummer are two sisters, and this band was their brainchild)
Laura Cox
Rory Block
Samantha Fish
Susan Tedeschi
Marnie Stern
Noveller (if you like ambient/noise/experimental)
Merel Bechtold
Warpaint
St. Vincent
Tal Wilkenfeld (a bassist who rose to fame playing with Jeff Beck and Prince… she’s better at bass than many guitarists are at guitar)
Ana Popovic

If you like tribute bands, The Iron Maidens are amazing if you like Iron Maiden, and Zepparella and Lez Zeppelin are phenomenal if you like Led Zeppelin. We really need an all-women tribute band to Pink Floyd out there…

Honestly… I could keep going. There’s so many… so many… but this short list is a good introduction I think…

As for Youtubers… probably 50% or more of the Youtubers I watch are women (or shows hosted by women). But that’s much harder to list out because… I mean… I don’t know how many people here are interested in video reviews of vaping/e-cig products… for example…

I want to know what sort of animal listens to Shirley Temple songs.

(Yes, I had to put up with those movies as “suitable kids movies” growing up. Yes, I am bitter.)

I mean, it’s not like they do it anyway, right?

PS: Happy Birthday to Robert!

Why do these chucklefucks always mistake their personal tastes for objective reality? You don’t like music performed by women? I think you’re missing out, but I’m not about to tell you you’re objectively wrong, because taste in music is a subjective thing. If you listed those 2538 songs on your phone, it’s certain that people you like and respect would drag you for some of your choices.

Women can’t art!!

I have to say this woman can’t embed in this comment section, but if I could, I’d embed Artemisia Gentileschi’s Judith and Holofernes.

BTW, really interesting series on BBC radio 4 on overlooked artists, I haven’t listened to the whole series. And I learned about Elizabeth Catlett… for one. Amazing stuff.

Okay the usual nitpicking:

Maybe if women made better music I’d listen to more of it. As it turns out it’s all vapid twaddle about drinking, doing drugs and getting banged in a nightclub toilet. I’ll pass thanks.

I can’t remember any song from any singer (male or female) with all 3 topics. Exspecially banged in a nightclub toilet seems to be rare.

No alcohol, drugs (sometimes hidden Lucy in the Skys with Diamonds) and sex are of course popular topics for songs. Now I would bet that for women does themes are more taboo than for men and there are more songs exspecially about sex from men than from women.

About singer/songwritters beeing more male quotation needed.
Of course there are singers whose songs are mostly written by other singers, there are those who sing mostly their own songs and those who are a mix. It’s the same with comedians, btw.

Okay there is a whole bunch of young female singers who mostly sing coverversions of older songs for teens and teenys, but there are a bunch of male singers who follow that bussness model also. (Okay now my grumpy old guypersona the originals are nearly allways better than the covers)

About features: In a way that is unfortunate exspecially since in a lot of those songs most of the singing is done by the one featured.

I celebrate MGTOW on International Women’s Day.
I celebrate MGTOW on Valentine’s Day.
In fact, I celebrate MGTOW every day, but they don’t live up to their end by actually Going Their Own Way.
It’s like Galt’s Gulchers will never actually move to Galt’s Gulch, or BenOpers will never take the Benedict Option.

MEN do everything for society. They are building roads and infrastructure. They are getting killed keeping this country safe.

Who wiped your arses? Who cooked your meals? Who taught in kindy and school? Who has to nurse your insufferable whinging arse? But I guess that’s not work, eh.

Now for my favourite lady musicians.

Love Kim Deal.

Saw the last thirty seconds of this video on Rage and have been hooked Olympia ever since.

Miggytoes try to take over every day that has any kind of female connection. Watch, Mother’s Day will be next. It’s like they can’t go one day without trying to draw attention to themselves.

As a musician (folk singer) and artist myself, I find this bizarre “belief” that only men are, in any real way, creative to be puzzling.

Why on Earth would anyone want to claim that all good, creative and useful things and abilities are the sole province of ANY single group? I have never heard any woman claim that only women are capable of true creativity and useful action, nor have I ever heard a woman say that men should not be allowed to do any of the many things that are forbidden to women, depending on the culture. Yet I have heard and read statements from men about who and what women are, what we can and cannot do, and the many, many things that we should not be allowed to do.

I can only think that, deep in their craven little hearts, these men must be utterly terrified of women. That is the only thing that, to me, can explain why they want our worlds to be no larger than our homes. After all, what would they do…who would they be…if women were listened to and had a truly equal voice in the affairs of the world? Great Goddess!!! They may find themselves in a world where war, profit and who gets to be King of the Mountain have no value.

Heaven forbid! We might learn to live in peace, place the welfare of the planet and the children at the center (instead of placing men there), heal our world, acknowledge ALL people as just that, and finally grow up.

Oh, I get it. That IS the problem. They don’t want mommy telling them anything, and they REALLY don’t want women to see what the boyz are up to, behind closed doors…in their smoke filled rooms…making the deals that sell life down the river…and benefit only them…until it all collapses.

@Samantha – Beautifully said.

I jerked it to dudes

I shit on the floor

Um, congratulations? Guess you showed us.

Hey MGTOWs, here are some more suggestions for sticking it to the feminists:

o Deliberately get sprayed by a skunk
o Get a horrendous sunburn
o Eat dishwasher tablets
o Lick a subway railing
o Pee into your wallet
o Actually go your own way

We promise to feel owned if you do these things.

Sidenote – I really think singers who are skilled at interpreting a song need to get more respect – no one ever watches a production of Shakespeare and complains that Sir Patrick Stewart, Dame Judy Dench, etc., didn’t actually write their own dialogue.

(And anyone who’s ever seen a *bad* Shakespeare production knows no script is so brilliant as to be indestructible).

In awesomesauce news, the Bank of Canada has unveiled the Viola Desmond vertical $10 banknote:

comment image

Check it out in detail here!

I love sooo much about this banknote, not least of which the fact that it finally features an (extra)ordinary Canadian rather than the same four or five dead Prime Ministers. But having recently been to that section of Halifax, it’s neat to see the map of the city core with the Citadel smack-dab in the middle. But probably my favourite aspect is the excerpt from Section 15 of the Charter on the reverse side. After all, we were just talking human rights a couple threads back, eh? 😉

…and I actually didn’t know there was a Canadian Human Rights Museum. In the Peg of all places. Huh.

I don’t have Spotify, so if I wanted to see how much of my music library is female penned or performed, I’d have to do it manually. But just taking a flip through my iPod artists, I’ve got:

– Adele
– Bananarama
– Bif Naked
– Blondie
– Buffy Sainte-Marie
– Carly Simon
– Cranberries (RIP Dolores)
– Donna Summer
– Eurthymics
– Fleetwood Mac
– Garbage
– Gladys Knight
– Jefferson Airplane
– Joan Jett
– Lisa Gerrard
– HEART
– Ladytron
– Laura Brannigan
– Lisa Lougheed (for her Raccoon’s Theme)
– Loreena McKennitt
– Mamas & The Papas
– Martha & The Muffins
– Mary O’Hara
– Metric
– No Doubt
– Parachute Club
– The Pretenders
– Rita McNeil
– Roxette
– Scanners
– Shakira
– Shirley Bassey
– Stars
– Starship
– STEVIE NICKS!
– Tina Turner
– Veruca Salt

(I’m only a casual fan of some of these artists or have one song, so a real breakdown is tough. I have a ton of male-lead groups like Scorpions where I just have Rock You Like A Hurricane, but then have the entire Nicks/Buckingham run of Fleetwood Mac plus every Stevie Nicks solo album. Plus I have a handful of compilations where the artists don’t show up, so I’m probably missing some I have on Big Shiny Tunes.)

Just guestimating, female artists and songwriters probably account for 15-20% of the music I listen to. Not great, but I think it’s down to the way the genres broke down when I was becoming musically aware. Female fronted rock bands were a rarity in the 70s and 80s, which is the stuff my parents put on when I was a kid.

Welp, time to blast some Bad Animals….

There’s a lot of overlap with my list! I’ve not heard of some of those, though … and meanwhile I’ve got some ABBA, Alannah Myles, Art of Noise, Atomic Kitten, Belinda Carlisle, Bonnie Tyler, Cher, Cyndi Lauper, Deniece Williams, Elastica, Irene Cara, Katrina and the Waves, Kim Carnes, Kim Wilde, Limahl, Luba, Madonna, Pat Benatar, Patti Smith Group, Paula Abdul, Pointer Sisters, ‘Til Tuesday, T’Pau, one Kylie Minogue track, one Neneh Cherry track, and more contemporary, Celine Dion, Chantal Kreviazuk, Enya, Estelle, Evanescence, Indigo Girls, Leona Lewis, Nightwish, Sarah McLachlan, Sophie B. Hawkins, Susanne Sundfør, and probably more.

Notably, I just scanned the artist column of my giant music file directory for female names and groups I definitely recall having a female lead singer. There are likely songs performed by male artists with a female writer that slipped by me as a result, as well as tracks I haven’t listened to in a while whose name didn’t immediately associate as “they have a woman singing”.

What I did also notice though was that on all the instrumental stuff, where the composer was listed, the composer was male. There’s obviously a sexism problem in that part of the industry! All the classical, all the movie-score music … all men. Also, I think, though am not sure, that other than the smattering of all-women bands, in most bands with a female lead singer the people playing instruments are almost all men…
