Seeking truth? No, you aren’t seeking truth. You’re expounding. You’re pontificating. Seeking truth requires listening. You have to engage with something to learn from it – to step inside the thing and see through its surfaces.
What you’re doing is quipping and deriding. If you’d like to actually find some truth here, you need to engage honestly.
I see someone’s read Dawkins. Tell me, then; if you’re accusing us of propagating the memetic payload of a durable but untrue meme, how do you ensure you aren’t doing the same? I mean, come on, claiming to be on a “quest for truth” is a pretty heavy meme of its own (and under which is often carried a whole host of other, more subtle, less honest memes…)
I suggest that the holy spirit you’re hearing is situated to your stern amidships, and is somewhat more talkative after beans and cabbage. I don’t believe you know what the “holy spirit of knowledge” sounds like, and your following line is why…
… because you believe that knowledge comes out of a search engine. It doesn’t.
The Googles will happily tell you that men are the real oppressed gender. That’s true. It’ll also tell you that the earth is flat, the moon landings were fake, global warming is a hoax, and the illuminati control the United Nations. Search engines will spit up whatever drek you search for. The PageRank system (Googles’ recommender algorithm) is based on page frequency and a few other unknowns. Truth is not even on the list.
If you believe in X, searching a search engine for whether X is true won’t help – you’ll find evidence for X in spades. For all X.
Search engines are a data retrieval mechanism. They provide grist for the mill. You must rely on other mechanisms to determine their truth. I know mine, but I am frightfully interested in learning yours.
How do you do it, truth-seeker? How do you determine whether a thing is true or not? If you’re actually here honestly, to serve the holy spirit of knowledge, you should be overjoyed to share the tools of securing truth.
Please, do share. I’m actually honest about that, no foolin or sass. If you do, I’ll extend you tee same courtesy and tell you mine.

I thought the thing about search engines was his way of saying that he shouldn’t have to back up his bullshit because we can just look it up ourselves. But I could be wrong. He’s not the best writer.

Alan Robertshaw, I second your vote. Being white and male in contemporary American society is definitely playing the game on Easy setting: you’re not guaranteed to win, but a lot of other people are dealing with bigger challenges.

Male intuition?
Lemme give you a little background on me, JDSM, as one man to another. About six months ago I left the field of space science to become a data scientist. I used to use supercomputer simulations to find out the truth about stars and orbital patterns; now I use Python/SQL/SAS to find out the truth about commercial spending patterns. This is something I enjoy and am good at.
Finding truth, especially of faraway stars and stuff, is hard. Really hard. One of the many problems is that we have to properly understand the issue. If we don’t, then we end up blinded by our own biases and assumptions. That goes for every field, not just the hard sciences: if you ever watch Stephen Molyneux review a movie you’ll see that he barely saw the movie at all, only his own assumptions about it.
To put it another way, “intuition” is a synonym for “prejudice.” This is true whether you’re male like you or I, or are part of any other gender or none.
Do not be guided by your prejudice. Set aside your intuition, like a reverse Luke Skywalker, and actually find stuff out about the world. You do that by listening.

Well prepared wood won’t splinter under use (unless you’ve got a pelvic floor that can crush rocks, or something) and if you warm up metal things they do hold their temperature…
(and if the thought of wooden toys worries you, wait till you see a glass one!)
Rather humorously, the best way to prepare wood to prevent splintering is called bone polishing. 😛
