Why am I not surprised in the least that the idiot doesn’t even know what the loop of fabric on the back of a tie is for.

The fucker ties it wrong.

If I remember my haberdashery lessons correctly, the “big end” of the tie is supposed to hang down to just about the belt buckle….

The dumpster wears his hanging down below his belt, a crass scream “HEY LOOOOK MYYYYYYY JUNK IS RIGHT HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Tying it this long means the “little end” is too short to reach the loop. He could get longer ties, of course… but he might have to pay more.

Yep – he ties ties like a kid playing dress-up. I were taught if you have two to three fingers width of skinny end to feed through the loop, the wide end of the tie is automatically at the right length, unless you’ve got a neck like a power lifter.
And if its windy? If you can’t wear a tie pin for uniform reasons, a small safety pin from shirt into the loop holds it in place in a hurricane. This stuff is getting dressed 101. Which Trump failed, bigly. πŸ˜‰

That was an annoyed summary so my fault for lack of detail, but we seem to be on similar pages again. I’m irritated at the frequency of the appearance of appeals to due process. But I value it too.

Most of the effort has been in shoving the burden of proof back on them, showing that they are applying a legal process to a non-legal social arena (I have many ways of saying “this is not a courtroom!”), and demonstrating that their actions don’t indicate any legitimate concern for burden of proof given the situation with victims.

I do mean it about the broken social contract, no moral force to fears about burden of proof, and withdrawing overt social support for it in a worst case scenario sense. But in my use of it I try to imply that this is a bad thing. I’m mostly trying to establish a sense of perspective.

This is all new stuff for me as far as specific arguments and rhetorical strategies. So I appreciate the observation.

With respect to the problem, political problems are the worst. I still have a bunch I haven’t mentioned yet. I’m wondering if it’s a personality thing related to morbid curiosity XD

Hambeast,
Funny story. I decided to see that film high and in my pjs, in the theatre.
I didn’t know about the butt weasels.
I was not prepared for Morgan Friedman’s eyebrows.
A mistake was made.

re: high and in pj’s…

In college, a friend and i went to see “Food of the Gods” at the drive-in…. F.o.t.G. was awful, and not “scary” at all… unless one was high and had a fairly low tolerance for either thc or “jump-out-n-scare” scenes… or both.

By mid-movie, everything in the car that crawled, flew, buzzed, or bit was dead, and we were jumpy as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs!

A mistake was made, documented, and not made again for a VERY LONG TIME!!!

Oh man, I am waiting for Brad Jones to review Fireproof. He’s mentioned it on more than one occasion as “that movie where Kirk Cameron made his wife stand in for the actress because he couldn’t bring himself to kiss another woman.”

You won’t be surprised that another Alex Kendrick-helmed film called War Room has exactly the same message: rather than getting a divorce from your verbally abusive and philandering husband (or seeking a marriage counselor), instead turn your closet into a prayer room and pray to God to give your husband food poisoning before he can cheat on you while he’s on a business trip (yes, this happens).

The most infuriating to me are probably either Voiceless (where the rapist from Unsullied antagonizes a women’s health clinic across the street from his church in a film shot like The Wire and focusing entirely on men) or Old Fashioned (where a creepy 40-something former frat boy pornographer has made a vow ever to be in a room with a woman not his wife, only he has leased the apartment above his woodworking shop to a quirky woman moving on from a physically abusive relationship and the script demands they fall in love). I think my vote for more insidious would go to Old Fashioned because it plays itself off as a charming “faith based” counterpart to Fifty Shades of Grey (it came out the same week IIRC), but rather than focusing on a courtship as one would expect, the morally judgmental asshole (played by the movie’s director) has his erstwhile girlfriend cut up pieces of pear for his friend’s kid to see if she’s suitable for motherhood (yes, seriously!) and otherwise treats her like shit for the whole film. He has all the charm and charisma of Norman Bates, which made it all the more infuriating that the actually charming female lead ends up with him at the end! It’s that bad!

Off topic question:

Why is it when you hear two songs – one you love and one you really hate – it’s the one that you really hate with a passion as gets stuck in your head?

Just did the supermarket run and they’re doing the christmas music. πŸ™

Roy Moore. Still not conceded. Still making a fuss. Just FB posted an article about Sen. Jone’s son – who’s gay – to stir up some nice homophobia.

There are times that arsehole isn’t a strong enough word.

Edited, as Weird Eddie saved me from double posting.

Doesn’t/didn’t Trump sell his own range of ties and suits? Even as someone who cares very little about clothes, I can tell he doesn’t dress well. Not a great advertisement.

Also, what’s with how he drinks water? Did he learn this from a raccoon?

There are folk songs about the Jezebel story? Oh dear….

Yeah, the Bible’s treatment of women is… well, I get the impression that asshole Trent Franks thought he was doing the whole Abraham/Hagar thing with his female staffers.

Interesting addition to the discussion on King movies – there’s loads that have been made but only very rarely been seen. He licenses his short stories to film students for a dollar, for non commercial purposes.

One of the students that licensed a short was Frank Darabont – the Shawshank director. πŸ™‚

Excellent. As an athiest I’ve avoided being casually and needlessly offensive about religion. You want want them to want to be around as fellow citizens. It also happens to be politically useful with general social problems. As harsh as I’ve been my Mom tells me she appreciates the fact that it’s not personal when I am harsh about religion. It’s a weird kind of respect in my family but it keeps the bonds going. And it let’s you socially damage bad Christians easier.

It’s an information priority thing. We tend to remember the bad more readily because you are more likely to survive. I mentally refer to it as “negative information bias”. We have another one for false positives because you live more often if you don’t find a lion when you alert the group.

Katamountβ€” I’ve got a friend who’s probably the most devout (Christian) person I know. They’re terribly compassionate and sweet and lovely…but TBH, I think they’d be that way if they’d been born Hindu, Muslim, or into an atheist family. They’re just a decent, kind person, by nature.

Anyhow, whilst they’re generally not overly pushy or proselytizing, they do have a tendency to continually “loan” (without being asked) me & my SO various DVDs of “inspirational” Christian films. “War Room” was the one that finally sent SO over the edge: he confronted our friend and declared that he couldn’t even finish the film. Explained how it made him profoundly uncomfortable with its rigid gender roles and whap-you-in-the-face expectations that women should be long-suffering. He described how he felt the attitudes in the film were deeply insulting to women AND men.

Our friend just replied, “If you’d watched to the end, it would’ve made sense!”
But we DID finish the other films, and found them equally insulting to both women and men. Honest.
(This same person is also perpetually overflowing with “inspirational” stories of women whose doctors told them they and/or their fetuses would die if they didn’t terminate their pregnancies…but instead they “had faith,” gave birth to perfectly healthy babies and are now thriving mommies. Which is why, apparently, abortion is Literally a deception of Satan. And also, PP Literally sells “baby parts” from “live-birth abortions” to put in food & makeup! “Everyone from church on FB is talking about it!”)

It’s so discouraging to see how genuinely good-hearted people can be taken in by cynical, controlling campaigns. And it’s so bloody hard to fight, “I have faith…so I just know it’s true!”
This person almost voted for Trump, despite being in one of his most despised immigrant groups. Because after all, he said he would help end abortion and fight for Christians!

@Shadowplay,

Why is it when you hear two songs – one you love and one you really hate – it’s the one that you really hate with a passion as gets stuck in your head?

This isn’t the same situation, but it’s an earworm issue: on Wednesday the staff room was a tad rambunctious (the heat was getting to everyone). One particular tutor was roaming around singing “Band on the run”, really getting into it, “Baaaaaaaaaannnnnnd on the run!!!”. Eventually someone asked “Are you going to sing any of the other lines?” to which she replied, “Nope. Don’t know ’em. Baaaaaaaannnd on the run…..”
It was stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

@Hambeast, congrats on the new kitties and I hope the health issues are resolved soon. If/when you’re able to, some pics would be fabulous πŸ˜€

The Christian Family Values films…

Ah, I can’t even. Was thinking of our (for friends and neighbors) low key holiday plans.

Our pal T here, and the other Z, we’re trying to go back to more “healthy living” so to say, and also thinking of doing a little holiday thing, dinner, drinks, for us and a few others, I’m making a meatloaf πŸ™‚ That’s already decided, the rest can hash out the side dishes. Also done, those will be: baked potatoes, baked acorn squash, spinach and carrots. And for dessert we have 3 kinds of ice cream, choc fudge, jamocha, and vanilla caramel gelato.

And of course plenty of beer! And other drinks.
Ms. O. Z. here said we should get a couple of bottle of Cold Duck.

And you’re going to find that, where?
Well, there’s probably some cheap liquor stores over here….
Yeah, go to the bus station and tell them you want a ticket to D Town! πŸ˜€

Not mocking my friend here either, because I’ve swilled down plenty of this stuff too, and worse. And now I have a craving for it!

It’s a booze worm!

And a “red” “wine” would actually work with the meatloaf.

I am craving this now!

Here’s the meatloaf recipe I’m going to make, if anyone’s interested, it includes oatmeal rather than bread crumbs. I have made it several times and it’s excellent.

https://reallifedinner.com/classic-meatloaf-recipe-just-like-mom-used-to-make/

(I would add, if you don’t have a loaf pan or wire rack to hold it up, – set the loaf on rolled up alum. foil. So as not to be setting in excess grease.)

Very good recipe, I’ve made it several times, I went looking for one with oatmeal as this is how my mom and grandma did it. And they would just park it in a pan, cooking and setting in grease, not let it rest, a few simple adjustments make all the difference!

We have all the ingredients and are good to go! The meatloaf, and sides, are all simple things too, if anyone needs any last minute dinner ideas.

Sounds like a lovely plan. Good food, friends, what more do you need? πŸ˜€

Meatloaf recipe looks nice – I add a hint of nutmeg to mine to make the meat really pop.

Doing Christmas dinner today here – partner is working and away Christmas day – but we’re being boring: turkey, masses of turkey gravy, pigs in blankets, stuffing, spuds, sprouts (both steamed and sauted with a bit of bacon and smoked paprika) and spinach.
She’s got a nice bottle of champagne or three for the drinkers, and I’ve got 4 types of tea, Coke, and ginger beer for the none drinkers. πŸ˜€
