“No gods but me” (Clingy) – twitter verified checkmark. Lots of other “gods” thereabouts at the time. 😛
“No graven images” (That’s like ‘unfriend anyone who’s not me on Facebook’)) – It’s not in the Catholic list (instead we get two on coveting – which actually separate out wives from goods and chattels). Not saying it’s a bad commandment – the representation is never the object and can never be the object.
“Name in vain” (‘Don’t talk about me unless it’s to say I’m great’) – Or “don’t use me to justify your crap? Don’t put words in my mouth?” Those are equally valid interpretations. But yeah, this one has always bugged me slightly.
“Sabbath day” (‘You have to spend all your free time with me’) – “I made this whole place for you. Take a day off once a week, as even I do that, to admire it and say thank you for it. All major credit cards accepted.” 😛

I have an interesting problem regarding the “clearly mental illness x” problem if anyone wants to weigh in.

I have a pretty good reply planned, but it’s the kind of reply that I can do because of my experience. I’m essentially going to demand diagnostic criteria and the quotes that the person claims represents evidence of mental illness. Rhetorically it’s easy to keep pushing the fact that they supposedly care about evidence. I’ve done it before and it’s resulted in some spectacular meltdowns, especially in concert with suggestions that this person is incompetant at explaining why they feel the way they do.

The first problem is that I’m concerned that this still results in hyper-focusing on the accusers behavior and that seems problematic given the way that this already happens to victims. I’m not sure that’s avoidable since the accuser’s words are going to be focused on in general, but here it’s about irrational and illogical criticism of the accuser.

The second is in the nature of the response, not just everyone can demand diagnostic criteria and communication samples and see if the other person even tried. On one level people should be more familiar with them and with what they look like, but I’m concerned about things I’m not going to see because of my life experience.

It was only very recently that I learned child marriage is legal in (most parts of???) the USA. How is that even possible? Over a thousand kids under the age of 15 and down to 10 had marriage licenses issued in the USA between 2000 and 2015 (figures are just from Wikipedia, so not like I’ve actually researched it or anything). I get that this is a tiny number in a huge population, but it’s shocking that it’s legal.

Jesus. The UK is pretty shit for teenage pregnancies, definitely, but why isn’t this statutory rape?

I live here, and I only learned it was legal a few days ago. It’s appalling. I hoped that my home state of California was an exception, but nope, legal here too.

I don’t share that writer’s optimism that Moore won’t be senator.

I also don’t get why a sexual assault victim would vote for a someone who bragged about committing sexual assault. Her white supremacy was that important to her? Damn. But that’s beside the point.

Republican voters don’t mind voting in rapists at all. They’ve already proved that. The best we can hope is that the senate does expel like they’re threatening. But doing that would expose them as hypocrites because they all wound up backing Trump. So I’m not 100% confident they’ll even do it. They’re probably hoping the whole thing blows over.

Oddly, I was just thinking about Doctor Who. I’ve not watched it since Tom Baker’s time (couldn’t be doing with Peter Davison) but … it’s been 50 years. He still hasn’t fixed the camoflage circuit in the Tardis. Was Gallifrey the legendary procrastination planet or something?

True. Though God never actually mentioned that abortion was against the law in the manual, either. It’s not like it’s banned under the ‘no murder’ restriction, since Exodus 21:22 sure doesn’t seem to think that fetuses are people– the punishment for causing a miscarriage was specified to be a fine.

Though it’s not like the fundies give a single shit about what’s written in the Bible anyway, just that citing it gives them a convenient excuse to be bigoted assholes but still feel righteous.

@Shadow: A recent episode suggested that the famous Tardis materializing sound was because the Doctor has left the parking brake on lo these many years (eons?), so who knows?
