Three white supremacists have been charged with attempted murder after one of them fired at a group of antifascist counterprotesters after a speech by neo-Nazi celebrity Richard Spencer at the University of Florida in Gaineville yesterday.
The Miami Herald reports:
Just before 5:30 p.m., just as protesters outside Spencer’s speech at UF’s Phillips Center were wrapping up, Gainesville police said the trio started heckling some anti-Spencer protesters with Hitler chants, Nazi salutes and threats. At one point, cops said, convicted felon Tenbrink pulled out a gun and the brothers encouraged him to use it.
He fired a single shot that missed the group, police said, then sped off in a silver Jeep. An off-duty Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted the car 20 miles out of town around 9 p.m. and arrested the group. The Fears brothers are held on million dollar bonds in the Alachua County jail. Tenbrink’s is $3 million.
Surprise, surprise: Two of the three were amongst the alleged “very fine people” marching with their fellow white supremacists in Charlottesville.
Tenbrink, 28, and William Fears, 30, were spotted at Charlottesville, the site of the largest white nationalist gathering in years that erupted in violence. Fears identifies himself on Twitter as “Charismatic leader of a White breeding cult” and tweeted “blood and soil,” the notorious Nazi slogan.
This is terrorism, plain and simple. It’s appalling the story isn’t getting more attention in the media.
Here are some tweets with more details on what happened.

And these three aren’t the only violent white supremacists who should be getting a lot more attention from the press — and the cops.

The ProPublica piece is a long one but I think a necessary read for anyone concerned with the rise of a violent fascist movement in US.

My thoughts exactly.
Meanwhile, everyone in the White House continues to lie about Trump’s shockingly callous treatment of a grieving Gold Star mother and the congresswoman who has stood up for her.
Specifically, this entire John Kelly story is fiction. Not one bit of it actually happened. pic.twitter.com/eGSQU0S3wc

Hey @realDonaldTrump I know how much you love calling out FAKE NEWS so here’s your daughter-in-law quoting a transcript that doesn't exist. https://t.co/TheR8FGrWY

Rachel Maddow has a pretty convincing theory on why Trump doesn’t want to talk about Niger: that the 4 US soldiers died in part as a result of the Trump administration alienating the government of Chad, which pulled its troops out of Niger after Trump put the country (a longtime ally in the war on terror) on his alleged non-Muslim ban list for an extremely stupid reason.
Maddow connects the dots on how Trump adding Chad to his travel ban may have gotten soldiers killed in Niger https://t.co/PYk203GxVM

In a whole other arena of terrible, things are even worse in Puerto Rico than official reports acknowledge:
Real death toll in Puerto Rico is probably 450 — much higher than official count https://t.co/msCyhMDyyQ

But our country still has its heroes. Along with Rep. Wilson and all those working diligently to save lives in Puerto Rico, there is this dude:

Here are some cute animals because we all need more of them this week. And every week these days, frankly.

@Pee Vee
I hope that did not come off as negative. It’s something of a relief to find objective explanations that I can use to wrestle with it. TS is a love/hate thing with respect my experience of it.
Brony, oh, I didn’t take anything you said negatively at all, no worries.
So, if you’re a conventionally attractive woman or girl, you deserve sexual assault for because you’re asking for it by being too boner tempting. If you’re a not conventionally attractive woman or girl you shouldn’t mind sexual assault because you should be flattered someone even wanted to assault you.
Is there any way a woman/girl/female presenting person can look that doesn’t invite sexual harassment and rape? Is there some magical fine line we can walk?
Yeah, didn’t think so.
And off topic, but now that it’s figure skating season, I’m becoming increasingly annoyed with the fact that the singles events are still called the lady’s and the men’s event instead of women’s and men’s. Ish.
Some good news:

Anyone here planning to attend upcoming antifa demonstrations in the US, please be careful. No doubt most of the responses on this Twitter thread are hyperbolic, but it’s damn scary all the same. Lots of people with very itchy trigger fingers.
Oooh!!!! Ohhhh!

So, anyone think we’ll see someone run for the hills before Monday?
Want to pop money on the first charges being on Flynn-Flam? Did say last year he was a chancer (as well as some rather uncomplimentary things about his actions and professionalism while in uniform 😛 )
Animal abuse correlates very strongly with psychopathy and dark-triad traits. I wonder if Nazism does as well.
@ PeeVee and tim
I don’t understand why Mueller’s giving them (whoever “them” happens to be) an entire weekend to flee justice. Is that…normal?…for this type of investigation?
Dimmy, maybe Mueller is hoping to shake something loose by letting them stay free until Monday. See who panics and what they do when they panic.
@ Scildfreja Unnyðnes
OMG I’m so sorry! They whole story made me so angry I had to pace around for a minute. Who does that?
@Scildfreja
I’m sorry and enraged to hear that your cat was poisoned. Take care of yourself.
RIP, good kitty.
@dreemr
I’m so sorry that your cat met the same fate. All the hugs if you’d like them.
I’m furious.
IMO we should add these killers to the mandatory-to-punch pile.
Yes, I know, sometimes you’re in a hurry and need to catch a bus to work or meet a friend for lunch. But damn it, there is such a thing as being a concerned member of society. And sometimes the only way you can show your concern is to punch someone.
Speaking of, my friend gave me some anti-Trump buttons and one of them is a picture of Wonder Woman punching out Trump. Love it.
I am honestly very glad to hear that we are starting to get indictments. Let’s just say a few little birdies have speculated that among the ones we will see with the starting volley is the man himself Manafort. Also since New Yorks AG is going after him Trump cannot pardon him since that would fall under state crimes which the president cannot pardon only the Governor of the state. Which means Manafort is screwed completely and utterly.
@wwth,
If you happen to take any pics, please, please post them. I’d love to see 😀
@ Scildfreya, I’m so sorry. The loss is awful enough, even without the knowledge that it was due to active malice.
@Scildfreja
God, I’m so sorry, that’s a horrible thing to have happen, and to find. It’s pets being abused and mistreated like that that sends me into ‘film of red mist’ levels of rage. Your kitty did not deserve that. No kitty does.
This is one of the reasons I’m a lot happier with kitties here being indoors only. Not only is this serious coyote country, there are too many sick motherfuckers out there who do not deserve the title ‘human’ who would do this with a song on their lips.
I wouldn’t be too damned surprised to see a big-ass overlap on the Venn diagram of ‘Nazis’ and ‘animal abusers’. It’s not a big leap from seeing one group of living beings as things to kill and abuse to adding another group to the pile. Or several groups at that.
…I’m gonna headbonk the Coconut now. 🙁

@ Scild
My condolences for your loss. People underestimate the pain of pet loss, and also people are horrible.
‘Murder’ is not hyperbolic, and punching pet murderers is acceptable violence.
We had a spate of pet poisonings in my home town last year; someone was putting antifreeze in treats and leaving them lying around. at least five cats and two dogs died. We never did find out who the culprit as. I’m using it in my first crime novel.
@WWTH – they don’t do that for tennis, but then again figure skating has a beauty-pageant element that the ISU can’t seem to come to grips with.
@Scildfreja – Oh, your poor, poor kitty. And poor you. 🙁 So many assholes in this society who feel entitled to kill pets (and even the law only recognizes them as property, not the full-fledged companions and family members that they are). Is the suspected neighbor leaving poisoned food outside in their yard? If they are, maybe you could surreptitously obtain a sample and get it tested. Meanwhile, it sounds like a good idea to warn other pet owners in the area.
@PeeVee – My money’s on Manafort. I had a feeling something was gonna drop after the HRC/Uranium story suddenly started getting traction last week. There’ll be further distractions from Orange Fuckface as Mueller gets closer. I wouldn’t be surprised if the GOP tries to go after Hillary.
Buttercup: agreed. They’d better keep an eye on his travel plans this weekend.
I do find it (not really) amusing that they’re bringing up that dossier again as if it were newly-discovered information about who financed it when that has been known for nearly a year…smoke and mirrors.
