Fake Melania, meet Donald Trump’s fake charitable contributions: Today in Tweets

There’s definitely something a bit … off about her eyes

By David Futrelle

When is Melania Trump not Melania Trump? When internet conspiracy theorists decide that the Melania Trump-looking lady standing next to our illegitimate president is a secret imposter. Never mind that this women is OBVIOUSLY MELANIA WHAT ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT.

You know what’s fake for real? Donald’s “concern” for fallen soldiers. And a lot of his much touted charitable contributions.

Here’s the tweet that started the whole #FakeMelania thing.

https://twitter.com/JoeVargas/status/920507354403233793

Others offered their own “proof.”

THAT IS THE EXACT SAME WOMAN YOU DOOFUS HER NOSE ISN’T BIGGER IT’S THE LIGHTING JESUS CHRIST WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU.

https://twitter.com/pattymo/status/920730181647716355

Ok, wait, THAT is a lot more convincing. Her hair isn’t even the right color! Sloppy work there, Fake Melania handlers!

The evidence of conspiracy is piling up:

In other news, the very real Donald Trump is a fucking monster.

https://twitter.com/ParkerMolloy/status/920449283756904454

And his “charitable contributions” are basically nothing but hot air.

And he seems to have killed the Obamacare fix he earlier said he supported.

Also, he says “billions and billions” a lot.

“Alt-right” shitheads continue to be shitheads.

This is why we need so many animal pics and vids.

Don’t know if anyone’s posted this already, but has everyone seen the announcements for the release date of the Women of NASA Lego set?

I saw that! The Margaret Hamilton one is awesome. Here’s the photo it references:

As for the comments… is this shit getting worse, or am I just noticing it more? I think Lewis’s Law (“the comments on any article about feminism justify feminism”) was too narrowly specified. It seems to apply to any article which mentions women in any positive way.

Will your Lego budget stretch to this?

Meliana was the top US trend on twitter for much of the day Wednesday which is hilarious because no one actually believes the CT, it was just too fun to ignore. Who doesn’t want to go all photoshop detective once? It’s certainly good clean fun compared to the racist, transphobic Michelle Obama CTs.

@Moggie
I’ve noticed things along that line.

I need to dig up the link but I have seen someone discuss the way some people seem to dislike Wikipedia articles about women and other female people. They feel the need to either include negative irrelavancies, or to remove positive and relevant information (and probably other things). Like Trump’s need to disparage what he feels threatened by, a text-based exists like the slander/libel contrast differentiating speech and text.

If a person felt group oriented animus that much it’s reasonable to think they might take such actions in a social dominance and conflict context when they can. Lewis’s Law seems to be about* challenges (real or percieved) to existing dominance and the knee-jerk reactions to that which often include the very thing being challenged reasserted by people feeling threatened. It’s got race, orientation and gender correlates (as this other behavior likely does).

*corrections happily accepted.

Just… the comments tho. Ugh! What is even going on there? Do they seem like genuine LEGO fans, because they seem rather ‘pretender’ like to me.

Did you see that the one MRA kept spamming a YouTube of Christina Hoff Sommers “debunking” the wage gap. Nice of him to send such a clear signal that no one needs to take him seriously. Not only did he use YouTube as a citation, he used CHS as one. That’s two strikes. The third one being the claim he’s for true equality.

Yep, that sold me on him being a woman-hating, MRA tool. I’m ‘Crazt Maist Waizy’ on there. I guessed he was an MRA, and then his video confirmed it. What a tool.

He just seems… nasty. Sick.

And the person claiming to be a ‘great feminist’ or something snidely attacking everyone but the person being the actual hateful one while proclaiming everyone else to be? I just…

God, how these nasty people can pervert something as innocent as a LEGO fan site I’ll never know.

@ Moggie

I replied to you too, but I think it got stuck in moderation. Sorry! Hope it turns up soon.

To me ‘true equality’ is just a code word for maintaining the unequal stats quo

weirwoodtreehugger: chief manatee

I have yet to see a person claiming to be an egalitarian or an equalist do anything but support the anti social justice viewpoint over the social justice viewpoint.

in related news, Paul Elam is very upset about girls being allowed in the boy scouts, and all of the SJW merit badges our vulnerable young men will be forced to earn:

John Kelly goes on TV and tacitly confirms Trump said the “knew what he was signing up for” line, but attacks Rep Wilson for listening to the call (she was an invited friend of the family). He may be one of the adults in the room keeping Trump from starting WW3 but he’s scum too.

Seriously though, girls couldn’t be in boy scouts? Girls have been in Scouts Canada for years, I had thought it was just a thing that the Scouts had done. In fact, that’s why they’re ‘Scouts Canada’ instead of ‘Boy Scouts of Canada’, because they are letting in girls as well.

I’m not clicking on the avfm link, but I mean… Surely he could just look and see how the program changed up here? It’s been years.

In fact, after a quick google, I learned that they started to admit girls in 1998. That’s nearly twenty years ago.

@Rhuu:
Of course, the girls side was ‘Girl Guides’ up here rather than ‘Girl Scouts’ as well… (my mother was leader of a Brownie pack, the Girl Guide version of Cub scouts, for several years, having taken it over from the previous woman, who used to refer to the title of the Brownie leader being ‘Brown Owl’ as being appropriate because she could shovel the most, the fastest).

That said, I’ve got the feeling that Scouting in Canada is significantly different from Scouting in the U.S. in some ways. Particularly in that a lot of Scout troops in the U.S. were actively supported by churches, including a lot of them by the Mormon church, which pretty much used the Boy Scouts as their own youth group. Which has led to years of active resistance to letting atheists into the Boy Scouts. There have been court cases about having an Oath to God as part of the Boy Scout initiation.

(Unsurprisingly, as a result of those years of resistance, there are now a lot of people who think that the Boy Scouts aren’t religious/anti-LGBT/fascist enough, and have been setting up their own explicitly religious youth groups modelled on the Scouts, such as ‘Trail Life USA’. Which has been in the news lately affirming that they still refuse to allow girls, or gay boys, or transgender boys… atheists are technically allowed, but only if they swear an oath and are willing to deal with constant conversion attempts.)

As sad as it is, I’m not surprised in the least.

For the last forever, media, whether it’s TV or movies and many books, have portrayed femininity as negative and women as nothing more than vacant-eyed trophies to be won by the ‘hero’ of the story.

If you want to level a deadly insult at a guy, call him feminine.

Masculinity is positioned as the polar opposite (instead of complementary) to femininity, and you can’t be a ‘man’ if you possess any feminine traits, like empathy for example.

Personally I suspect that a large amount of the hate for trans-women is due to semi-sentient shit-witted bigots who see us as traitors for giving up our ‘superior’ masculinity to be inferior women.

I’d feel sorry for John Kelly now that he’s destroyed his reputation and credibility, and publicly eaten Trump’s shit, but . . .

he knew what he was getting into.

“Women were sacred, looked upon with great honor.”

Seriously, dude, we know who you work for.

John Kelly listened in on that call, so He’s hardly in any position to clutch pearls at a Congresswoman who overheard a conversation while comforting the widow of a military member she, herself had known since his childhood and who she had mentored.

Fucking hypocrite.

@Rhuu
We have a separate organization here called Girl Scouts of America. They’re way better because they’re not church affiliated, not homophobic, and allow trans girls. Also their cookies are nom. Except for the gluten free ones. 🙁

I liked the bit where he apparently chastised Abraham Lincoln for failing to ring the families of deceased soldiers.

Now now. I’m sure he only meant to chastise Lincoln for not calling the families of deceased Confederate soldiers.

Girls could join the related Venture Scouts, if I recall correctly, but couldn’t join the main organization. (Girl scouts are a completely different organization)

Yeah, we have the equivalent of Girl Scouts in Canada, which are the Girl Guides. (They are both part of WAGGGS, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.)

Girl Guides allows trans girls too! I’m so happy that Girl Scouts does, that is wonderful.

I hadn’t realised that boy scouts were so closely tied with various churches, because I don’t think that’s a thing here? I certainly don’t know of any units in Guiding that have close religious ties, though Scouting is a different organisation all together.

I can’t remember enough details, but I do remember a high level scout having problems in Canada because they didn’t believe in God, and wouldn’t say the pledge with ‘God’ in it. Looking at the FAQ I posted earlier, it says that while you don’t have to be Christian, you still need to say their pledge that has ‘God’ in it, though that can stand for a personal faith.

:/ I wouldn’t want to say that. The Girl Guide promise was changed years ago to ‘my god/faith’ to make it more inclusive, but they still push that aspect.

@Jenora Feuer: *shudders* Conversion attempts? Ugh ugh ugh.

@kupo: It always blows my mind that Girl Scouts has cookies year round. In Canada, there are two times for cookies, and there are only three types. (Four, if you take apart the vanilla and chocolate sandwich cookies and put them together like some amazing creation!)

@Tovius: I don’t know anything about the Venture scouts, I’m going to have to google them! Thanks.

Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts, envisioned the group as the first step in developing officers for the British Army. That is the source of many of the traditions which now seem outdated, to say the least. He believed, for example, that an atheist would be insufficiently willing to give his life for his country, because no reward in the afterlife. The Scouts have traditionally excluded gay people and females, because of course you can’t have them in the military.
From my point of view, the Boy Scouts are making changes mainly because the appeal of sex-segregated organizations for teenagers is declining — I hope that they don’t succeed in weakening the Girl Scouts, who seem to be doing many more things right — or at least without being dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st Century.
