John McCain says no: Today in Tweets

Senator Bill Cassidy, would-be healthcare-stealing goblin

By David Futrelle

John McCain announces that he’s now a “no” vote on the Graham-Cassidy anti-healthcare bill, and gets hailed as a “hero,” proving that the  standards for “heroism” amongst Republican senators is pretty damn low. But if McCain is your senator, you should probably call to thank him for this minimal act of human decency.

Meanwhile, millions of Puerto Ricans remain in dire straights, without power and water — and, sadly, without much media coverage. And Mexico City continues to dig out from last week’s earthquake.

Here’s Johnny:

(Note: Murkowski’s people say they welcome calls from out of state. Hint hint.)

And now to Puerto Rico, a place the media seems to have largely forgotten:

Puerto Rico:

More options here if you want to help Puerto Rico (or the other islands in the Caribbean that have been hit hard by Irma and Maria).

Here’s what it looks like in Mexico City today:

In other news:

Leftists didn’t kill it; it was killed by the sheer incopetence of Milo ‘n’ pals, who failed to fill out the paperwork to reserve rooms or even contact some of the touted speakers to tell them they’d been invited. It’s almost as if they never intended the event to happen in the first place.

In “bad but completely expected news.”

More bullshit poop crap:

Kitties!

Ok, technically none of those were kitties.

McCain is still abhorrent garbage- always has been- but the disgusting pundits and mainstream still love him. I could puke.

Is it me — or are the deniers of climate change a lot less vocal these days? Snort.

My heart goes out to all those affected by these disasters, human and nonhuman alike. May you recover quickly and completely. ♥♥♥♥♥

So Milo’s hair has turned white (seemingly) overnight?

Guess someone told him that climate change is real.

The epaulets on his shirt won’t protect him from nature.

I’m not trusting his word until the vote is cast.

Not to sound like an asshole here, but are the regular posts going to come back soon? If you’re still sick, don’t worry about it. I really am just wondering and looking forward to them, not trying to be critical!

I can’t read about John McCain without picturing him knocking a dinner roll out of Cindy McCain’s hands.

I don’t get the love that John McCain gets, it’s like his maverick routine actually has people fooled

@David Futrelle
You’re in my thoughts. Sending you my best wishes for a resolution of the health issues. In the meantime, take it as easy as you need to — we’ll talk among ourselves.

I’m guessing that McCain carefully calculated just how much his ego would get stroked for voting “no” and determined that it wouldn’t be enough unless he feinted at voting “yes” first.

Uh-huh.

Or saying in front of reporters that she looked like a “trollop.”

Not gonna forget.

I think people really, really want to believe that there are Republicans with morals. If they admit that there aren’t, it’s admitting that the system is broken. Well, not so much broken as working as intended. To keep entrenched power in power and not to have a functioning democracy. It’s a tough thing to admit. Especially if you have enough privilege to have kept yourself somewhat insulated from the shittiness of the system. Belief that McCain is a maverick, Jon Huntsman is a reasonable moderate, Ron Paul or Trump is anti-establishment etc. is like, their last desperate hope.

It is annoying though. Not excusing this willful delusion at all as it causes real harm to people.

Echoing the non-love for McCain. Yes, thank you for doing the decent thing. THIS time.

Oops. I think R** P**l still goes into the moderation filter. Reposting.

Cheated! I demand a refund!

Or saying in front of reporters that she looked like a “trollop.”

Or calling her a c–t.

But let’s be real here: McCain is taking the fall (for some definitions of “fall”) for an undefined-but-nonzero number of other R Senators who think these repeal bills stink but don’t want to actually vote against them for political reasons. McCain gets to look principled and noble, while the two R women who also torpedoed the last effort are ignored and talked over, and the bills get defeated with most Rs coming out with the yes votes they need to have to save their own jobs.

It’s kabuki. What you see is not what you get.

Feel better, David. Plenty of rest and all that nonsense! Do keep care of that suprachiasmic nucleus of yours. There’s lots of research going on with migraines right now, so it’s looking hopeful! Appears very much linked to the SCN and circadian rhythms, so when you are able, regularizing your sleep schedule might be good.

I’m sure you’ve heard all that before, of course – it’s just been a topic of reading for me recently. Do feel better soon, and don’t stress yourself!

Here are two things that have made me smile in the midst of the current “oh-fuck-disasters-everywhere-I-look” situation:
1. Mei-Mei, of course – lookit her neat little paws!

comment image

2. A right-wing fundamentalist senator (Cory Bernardi) raged on Twitter about a school fundraiser called “Do it in a dress”, calling it “gender morphing” etc. etc. blah blah. BUT here’s the delicious bit: the school was hoping to raise $900 (it’s for girls’ education in Africa). Since Bernardi’s tweet, they’ve raised $200, 000 and it’s not even finished yet.

Best wishes David.

Also lol Breitbart denied entry into Trump rally.

The schadenfreude is absolutely, devilishly, sweet. Breitbart’s in a meltdown, multiple nazi leaders of the Charlottesville incident facing jail time/getting sued and Gab was taken off the Itunes Appstore. It’s gratifying to see this all come down.

On an unrelated note I finished my first session with an LGBT therapist a few hours ago. It felt nice to be able to divulge my trans issues face to face.

I hear you. I still think Cindy should’ve commandeered that fuckin bread basket, stuffed herself with rolls until she became sick, then ralphed in good ol’ McNasty’s lap.

I’m glad to hear that Oogly!

The only thing I have to say is that McCain’s a fucking ghoul, I am disgusted with him, and I hate that my mom loves him.

Today I ate out on my own, and detected and averted a meltdown by getting the hell out of the place and all the “Do you want anything else, sir?” people. Ughh. Rocky Horror tonight, and I forgot my fake boobs. Everyone is going to “forget” who I am.
