Just William Shatner yelling about “misandry” on Twitter

William Shatner is shocked by some of the things you ladies say and do

By David Futrelle

It’s not exactly news that former space show actor William Shatner can be something of a dick. And in the year of our dark lord 2017 all dicks end up on Twitter, so it really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that Shatner has been acting like a dick on Twitter.

But I have to say I was a little bit taken aback to see Capt. Kirk adopting not only some of the opinions but the lingo of the terrible people who congregate in or around the Alt Right. In a series of recent tweets, Shatner has railed against so-called SJWs and castigated his opponents as “snowflakes,” a term that seems to have almost replaced what seems to have been his previous favorite patronizing putdown, “sunshine.”

He’s also picked up one of the favorite terms of the Men’s Rights movement: “misandry.” He started using it earlier this year, slipping it into his disquisitions on the evils of political correctness and feminism and whatnot.

Needless to say, his thoughts on the subject are not particularly enlightening, consisting mostly of assertions that “misandry exists.”

He is also keen for his Twitter followers to know that, yes, he in fact sometimes uses the word.

Tweets reiterating these two points pretty much make up the entirety of his commentary on the evils of misandry.

I look forward to his further contributions to misandry theory.

@Scildfreja

Oh, no no, @Surplus, it isn’t some sort of psy-op nonsense. It’s marketing.

I hate Edward Bernays.

PBS stands for Public Broadcasting Service. It’s the only non-commercial TV station in the US, and it gets a large part of its funding through these telethons where they show a whole season of a show and cut to people asking for money between episodes. It was the only way to watch Red Dwarf when I was a teen, other than paying hundreds of dollars per season for VHS tapes, which may have only been available in NTSC format through those same telethons. The UK used PAL format. Anyway, I loved Red Dwarf and would try and stay up really late to record it and would pretty much always forget to un-pause the recording at some point.

Wow you love red dwarf so much! More than me ))) but i enjoy. First series i watched is series 8 when they go back and all crew is alive again. Actually i like this one most of all. When they become ‘canaries’ and they sing this sunshine song ??? i think lister is my favorites and Cat maybe second favourite.

I haven’t seen the new series yet. I have all of the originals on DVD. I wonder if any streaming services have the new ones right now.

Edit: Looks like BritBox has it. I guess I know how I’ll be spending my week off. 😀

It’s not much of a spoiler to me unless something emotional is revealed, or sometimes a plot twist could be a spoiler for me but not usually, as I usually watch for other aspects. So no worries. 🙂

Did they ever say what happened the the rest of the crew after evacuated at the end of series 8? I’ve seen the ‘back to earth’ spherical and I think series 10 but I don;t think they ever said what happen to every one else
