Skinny Repeal and Steve Bannon’s D*ck: A politics open thread

Chyron of the Day (so far)

By David Futrelle

Yesterday, Donald Trump declared war, via Twitter, on trans people in the armed services, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders devoted several minutes of the daily White House Press briefing to a possibly fake letter from a possibly imaginary 9-year-old praising our illegitimate president.

Today, the newly installed replacement White House communications director called the White House chief of staff “a fucking paranoid schizophrenic” and suggested that White House chief strategist Steve Bannon regularly attempts autofellatio, hopefully only metaphorically. Meanwhile, Senatorial eminence gris Lindsey Graham explained that he would only vote for so-called “Skinny Repeal” of Obamacare if he could be assured it would never ever become law.

And there’s more. So basically, we’re long overdue for a politics open thread. Have at it. No MRAs, trolls, Trump fans.

Here are a few Tweets to get you caught up with all some of the latest nonsense:

And speaking of toxic miasma the Senate is currently in the middle of a 2 hour debate on the Skinny Bill. Now only 16 million Americans would lose coverage, increased premiums and Planned Parenthood would be defunded, isn’t that just grand / dripping caustic sarcasm

@SamBarge
Like others have said the racist base that has decided that they’re okay with losing their lives and loved ones due to lack of health care, as long as the non white people suffer they’re a okay with this.

I have a friend – well, I hesitate to use the word now – that is still a supporter. He’s been convinced by Sargon of Akkad and Rebel Media, mostly.

The universe is a wondrous place. There are so many incredible ways to be wrong out there.

Ooglyboggles, yeah, I saw. My heart hurts so much for the people of the country…the goddamned GOP shows us exactly how “pro life” they are by taking away insurance and healthcare from the poor, the disabled, and the elderly…I detest them. So much.

Meanwhile, in Scaramucciville, a tweet by him:

“I made a mistake in trusting in a reporter. It won’t happen again.”

Dude. You called them.

How Christian of them

It’ll be fun to see Scara get bullied hard like so many other Cabinet members.

Key senators seeks assurances House won’t pass healthcare ‘skinny bill’

http://www.dailynews.com/government-and-politics/20170727/key-senators-seeks-assurances-house-wont-pass-healthcare-skinny-bill

From left, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., speak to reporters at the Capitol as the Republican-controlled Senate unable to fulfill their political promise to repeal and replace “Obamacare” because of opposition and wavering within the GOP ranks,, on Capitol Hill in Washington,

Yes because these people have clearly shown their love and loyalty to the country, by consistently voting in favor of the GOP’s wishes.

Graham said that the “skinny bill” as-is was a “fraud,” “disaster,” “pig in a poke” and also “half-assed,” and that passing it would be “the dumbest thing in history.”

THEN DON’T PASS IT, YOU BLOODY MORONS! DON’T PASS IT BACK TO THE HOUSE! THEY’LL JUST VOTE IT IN AS IS!!! TAKE A STAND FOR WHAT’S RIGHT FOR THE PEOPLE, FOR ONCE!!

If it’s ok to digress a little; I got a job! It’s not precisely what I was looking for to start with, I’m helping to build lasers instead of writing software, but all my coworkers are nice and it’s interesting.

It’s always okay to digress, happy moments help remind people that there are still good things happening in the world. Congratulations on the job and having nice coworkers, building lasers sounds awesome.

The real question is, what do you need all those lasers for?

(Grats on the job, BTW!)

That letter tho. This is, presumably, a 3rd grader? I mean, could be. But, if this is indeed a forgery… We are ruled by incompetents

@Sam

Who are these people that still support him?

White males mostly (50.2% approval in the same poll, higher if you extract out the queers, heathens, and queer heathens)

@Helix

During the Monica Lewinsky scandal, I remember hearing about concerned parents who didn’t know how to explain that infamous semen-stained dress to their kids. Ha! America was so innocent then. I wonder what those people think of Scaramucci, not to mention the Pussy-Grabber-in-Chief. Is sexual vulgarity okay if you’re a Republican?

@Alan Robertshaw,

I don’t know if you’ve ever encounter Usagi Yojimbo before, but if you haven’t, I highly recommend you pick it up. It’s set in Feudal Japan, and makes great use of Japanese legends, mythology, and culture to create its story. And in the monthly comics at least, Saki footnotes any mythology and/or cultural point he thinks English language readers might not get on the first reading.

Also bat ninja clans, mole ninja clans, and zombies.

Also many of the names are puns, or other forms of wordplay. Usagi is the Japanese word for rabbit, for example, plus there’s an homage to Lone Wolf and Cub in the series that use the Japanese words for Old Goat and Kid. Lots of stuff like that in there.

Fun series; I recommend it highly.

(All I need to do now is find a comic book store near me that sells it again. My old one went out of business when one of the owners died and the other lost the heart to run it anymore. 🙁 )

ETA: @ Micheal Brew and Ray of rays;

Now that I’ve looked those words up – HAH! 😀

O bother McCain is doing another fucking grandiose speech in attempt to make it look like he’s not a complete waste of human life. We already know what you’re gonna do and you’re just twisting the knife to spite the millions of people who pay for your healthcare.

Cornyn retweets The Hill: Graham says he’ll vote for “skinny” ObamaCare repeal bill hours after threatening not to.
Cornyn tweets the Courthouse Rock “I’m Just a Bill” cartoon song to remind us how Congress works.

You can bet I’ll be voting against Cornyn and Cruz as soon as possible. Bastards. If you don’t want something to become law, you vote against it.

Text “resist” to 50409, and you too can fax your Congressional people (well, I use the term “people” somewhat loosely)

@tov; they make the buyers sign a waiver saying they won’t use the lasers for nefarious purposes, but really, who else could possibly be in the market for custom lasers?

Scaramucci tweets about a public document being leaked, notifies the FBI and Justice Department, then deletes it when he realizes what “public document” means. Time to first request for FBI help while in office: approximately negative 20 days. (He’s not officially employed as Comm. Dir. yet) Who were the “crybabies” again?

Scaramucci calls a reporter and talks to them without requesting “off the record”, and is then annoyed at being quoted saying something ridiculously childish.

Scaramucci is henceforth the WH Mis-director of Communications.

They’re stalling. They’re trying to delay the vote. The Guardian is reporting that Pence and McConnell are talking to the Republican senators most likely to vote no.

It looks like they don’t have the votes.
