UPDATE: McConnell is now pushing REPEAL ONLY. Seems like a desperate move, but we need to keep calling and protesting!

In addition to the racism, the misogyny, the classism, the stalkerish obsession with spiting Obama, the Koch/Mercer/Putin money, the lobbyist bribes, the tax cuts and the dominionist/objectivist zealotry… I’m convinced that McConnell, Ryan and Trump (at the very least) are just serial killers. Like, literally. They clearly enjoy murdering people – hell, it seems to be the only thing they enjoy – and I’d be surprised if they don’t have backyards full of unmarked graves.

@kupo, man, no one’s ever high-fived me over the rod in *my* leg. Guess it must be fairly pedestrian.

It isn’t dressage but it might be relevant to your interests.

@SFHC

I too find it very difficult to believe that the average elected Republican hasn’t killed a few people for fun. Gov LePage of Maine I can almost guarantee has killed a dozen people at least. The Arpaio weirdo from Arizona is another safe bet. Huckabee and Cruz have definitely killed or ar least severely injured a few women each. What’s most chilling about these speculations, however, is that if it did come out that Rand Paul stalked and murdered a couple of black teenagers (as he probably has), other conservatives would 100% support him. They’d blame the victims and the media, and then quickly pivot to “Hillary killed Seth Rich”.

Also:

This turtle should have been put to pasture long ago.

It’s not like nobody is trying to do this. The last time he was up on the chopping block, the Kentucky Democratic Party decided to run a candidate who looked really good and has all the right family connections. She was a competitive candidate. Unfortunately she wouldn’t take a stand on literally anything; to this day it’s unclear to me if she shot herself in the foot or if her handlers did it for her. Even something that should be as uncontroversial as “eastern Kentucky should have more jobs” just wouldn’t come out of her mouth. She came within striking distance of taking down McConnell anyway, so a candidate with less meal in her mouth could possibly do it.

We can be leg rod buddies! High five! I got mine from a tib/fib fracture when I got hit by a car while in a crosswalk.

(Also, I saw what you did there.)

@Diego Duarte,

My god, that’s hideous. Your poor cousin. I hope she’s OK now and has no permanent damage from having her Constitutional rights violated. No one deserves that.

For everyone who has wished me well about my skin cancer; Thank you! It looks like the surgeon got it all and I probably won’t need any further treatment. Now I’m just waiting for the skin graft to heal. I will have a bitchin‘ scar (The Hole where The Lump was removed is 8cm across and 2cm deep – I could literally see my muscles moving at the first dressing change).

Oh, and I’m also eligible for governmental income payments to live on while I can’t work. Socialism sucks, y’all.

Not related, but still political, a local story from my city seems to be going national.

International. The woman was Australian, so it’s all over Australian media.

My first thought was “Wow, white victim, maybe this one will get treated seriously”. Then it came out the shooter was a black Muslim. Oh crap.

There have been lots of televised interviews with the woman’s (white) neighbors and they are freaking out at the idea that it could have been them. Like you, I’m not sure whether decisive action against the officer (because a black officer shot an unarmed white woman) or no action (because he’s a cop and she wasn’t, therefore it’s OK to shoot her) will be less depressing.

Paradoxy, that woman is simply awful. She is a white supremacist; her bio reads

Former feminist who found Christ. Mom of 6. #WhiteCulture is heritage, not hate. Support my #TradLife ministry

Hypocrite.

Assumption in the states is, if you don’t have a job, clearly you’re not looking hard enough, and loss of income is clearly the best way to encourage people to take jobs they hate for crap pay. Unless you can prove that the chunk of meat removed from your arm (or whatever your hopefully obvious disability might be) keeps you from working, you can just go without income. If you’ve got difficult to prove non-obvious health issues? Good luck! Before Obamacare, if you did manage to prove one of the non-obvious disabilities, you then couldn’t get health insurance that covered it, or you paid at least double what the regular premiums were to get in the state “Health Insurance Risk Pool”. Texas’ version sucks. Connecticut’s was annoying enough that starting a company with friends in order to do electronics research (and get group health rates) was cheaper than paying for individual insurance.

There are multiple law firms whose main purpose in life is to help disabled people who were denied benefits get them. From what I hear, anyone with a permanent disability is VERY likely to need them at least once in their lives.

The American Puritanical Work Ethic really sucks.

ETA:
“Former feminist who found Christ”??? Then ignored everything He taught about women, got it!

Regarding Justine Damond, I just don’t understand what happened.

She comes up on the driver’s side and the passenger shot her from within car? What? Wtf?

I can’t seem to get any clear answers from the sites I’ve been reading…

Re:. Kentucky: McConnell is a political survivor though. In 1996 the Dems ran Steve Beshear who at the time was a fairly well liked ex-AG (and would go on to win 2 terms as Governor, while maintaining one of the better approval ratings at the time) and McConnell still cleaned his clock (if memory serves Beshear’s only loss in a statewide general election).

CW: Police shooting, Aussie in the US reports sex assault

From what I’ve read, she calls police via 911 to report a women screaming nearby, possible sexual assault in progress.
She goes out to meet them in pajamas with cell phone. As she approaches the police car, she is shot through the driver’s door, by the police officer sitting on the passenger side.

It’s such a weird story. I really wish they’d had the body cameras turned on (or didn’t ‘accidentally’ hit the delete footage button at the precinct).

One of the officers involved has offered the family condolences, but not yet admitted any specific person shot her.

JS, that’s what I’ve read, too, but I just don’t understand how she was shot…did it go *through* the door? I mean, not out the window?

No current information on specifics, though it is quite possible for a handgun to shoot through a car door.

Former feminist

I can’t think what would convince any female-identifying person to cease to be feminist. This is baffling as well as sad.

@EJ

Any day you’re around is a civilised day.

Yeah I probably shouldn’t have laughed at that.

These days the old rich fucks who make up way too much of my town’s population give me a lot of crap for walking barefoot everywhere, which is apparently the dirtiest thing one can do. I keep asking them if they clean their shoes every night like I do with my feet, and they keep calling the cops on my smart ass 😐

I mean half this town is public gardens and the like. Grass everywhere to walk on. On the other hand, I have weirdly shaped feet that can feel comfortable only in custom-fit shoes which I can’t afford. It’s a no-brainer at least in the summer.

Meanwhile, these people consider Faurisson (yes, that Faurisson) one of the most upstanding members of “our” city community.

I think it’s pretty clear who the barbarians are.

Sinkable John: As someone who currently owns literally the only pair of running shoes in the running-shoe store that fit her, my sympathies to you and your feet.
(Double-wide feet, stubby toes, very high arch. I love it when the weather gets warm enough for hiking sandals. They used to be regular wide but they spread, and I never want to hear again that “these are made wider than the average sneaker”. Not gonna fit, trust me.)

I can’t think what would convince any female-identifying person to cease to be feminist. This is baffling as well as sad.

But it’s pretty easy to think what would make somebody claim to be a former feminist. It’s one of those “Look I know I totes used to be a feminist but then I growed up and learned better so I’m not just talking out of my arse here” things, I reckon.

I can’t think what would convince any female-identifying person to cease to be feminist. This is baffling as well as sad.

Let’s say you’re a young woman, and you are full of rage at men and you think this makes you a feminist. You don’t know what a feminist really is, so you adhere to strawman feminism, which is what you think feminism is all about. It’s the only “feminism” you know, so you perform that.

Then you come to a point in your life where you no longer hate men, and think that because strawman feminists are man-haters, this means you’re not a feminist anymore. You’re also happier this way, and better-adjusted. So you say you’re not a feminist anymore (but you totes were at one point) and have negative feelings toward feminism and people who identify as feminists.

This isn’t a pure hypothetical: I once knew an “ex-feminist” who took this trajectory. My point is that it’s possible for someone to claim to be an ex-feminist and honestly believe this to be the case. It requires one to not look very deeply into feminism, and to associate only with other people who think strawman feminism is real feminism, but these requirements are easy to meet.

I suspect that that is exactly the case here. With easy money (ie. ‘donate to my ‘ministry’) added in for extra incentive.
