And to think I assumed Donald Jr. was the smart one.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but with Mitch McConnell in congress I very much doubt that Donald Trump is going to get impeached over anything, including this. Any and every attempt will be shut down, just as they did with Obama. At this point the GOP has sold its soul and no point is too low for them to stoop down to.

I’m so used to nothing happening over this stuff that I’ll have to see some real movement to believe it. Not just Grandpa McCain sounded vaguely grumpy before he goes and votes along with Drumpf like always.

Interesting how Drumpf Sr. has said nothing – but then this is one of his spawn NOT named Ivanka, so I’m sure he’s expendable.

You do kinda have to boggle at the brainpower of someone who says it can’t be illegal because he didn’t get what he was promised from the conspiracy.

Junior is the guy that calls the police because his cocaine dealer shorted him.

The solution to that is simple, although not easy.

Tim Kaine has called it treason. Other prominent Dems need to follow suit. It’s up to them to be relentless, not let the public and the media forget about it and move on.

Thank you for pointing out the difference between simple and easy; a lot of people miss that 😀

I’m doing my level best to be patient with the investigators of this scandal. They can’t actually begin to press charges or pursue impeachment or whatnot until they’ve gathered an absolutely airtight case, and that can take months and months. I don’t expect to see any actual forward motion until next year at the absolute earliest.

I’m actually reassured by the fact that there’s no public declarations from the investigation. It means they aren’t trying to put on a show. They’re trying to build a case. That means keeping quiet and collecting all of the information that they can. They’re taking it seriously. I suspect that a big motivator is to ensure the case is so strong that it cripples any support Trump and his cronies might have, to minimize the public pushback to his die-hard supporters.

Oh god but the waiting though. My Trump-supporting friend is impossible to talk to now. It’s like he’s turned into Sargon of Canada, he’s bickering with everyone and angry about any suggestion he might be wrong. I can’t wait for the evidence to finally come out all at once, in a truth-tsunami, to crush these arch-assholes.

Yeah, this is my stance, too. Trying to be patient, because I do trust that Mueller is building his case(s) methodically.

It is VERY hard to be patient, especially when every day brings some new horror and it sometimes feels like our democracy has already slipped away.

The POTUS is immune to almost all prosecution while he’s in office. Even civil prosecution of civil offenses perpetrated prior to the election has to wait until his term is over. The only way he can be brought to justice is through articles of impeachment.

Impeachment doesn’t require an “airtight case.” It just requires that misdemeanor be shown. Nobody had an airtight case for Clinton’s misdemeanors and they didn’t need one. The trial of an impeachment charge isn’t done by a special counsel, it’s done by the Senate. It doesn’t work the way a criminal prosecution in the courts works. The House could impeach Shinra today, and the Senate would then start to subpoena witnesses etc. to try the case. It won’t happen until Republicans are out of power, or else Shinra becomes too heavy of an albatross for them, but that doesn’t change the basic dynamic.

The case against Mump keeps building, but his supporters will cry “fake news” right until the bitter end.

They don’t WANT to pursue this too quickly, I’d imagine. Let the 2018 elections happen and see where the political chips fall. In the mean time this drip, drip, drip will keep the issues in the public eye.

Wtf. IN the twitter fed, Dumb, Jr. Was told, if I’m reading this right, that the info he was to be given was a part of Russian government’s campaign against Hillary.

Not reporting that alone makes him a traitor, nevermind taking the meeting

I… kind of don’t get it? The family can afford good lawyers, and wouldn’t a lawyer’s advice in this case be “shut the fuck up, Donnie”?

JoeB

@Moggie, that a lawyer was not consulted or not listened to was the consensus of all the lawyers I saw reacting on twitter. The most emphatic being “I would disappear him myself” (if a client did that).

Moggie: let’s term this the Donnie-Kruger effect. Under this belief, a crime that fails to achieve its goal isn’t illegal because it failed. One that succeeds isn’t illegal because success is the highest and only truth.

No good lawyer will agree to take them, so Jr’s stuck with a mob-connected ambulance chaser with a Godawful record who’s not even registered with the right bar.

No, seriously. That’s a real thing.

I don’t see how he would even reach any level of acceptance. Trump supporters just don’t live in the same reality. I had to unfriend several people over the election, including some who had been my friends for over 15 years. At this point their own toxicity can choke them for all I care.

There’s also the fact that Trump has repeatedly stiffed his own lawyers and word about that has spread. Why would they risk their reputation, along hundreds upon hundreds of work hours to dig him out of the dirt?

I just don’t get it. DT Jr. published the emails himself. When the topic of incriminating evidence against Hillary came up, his response was “I’d love to see it.” The purpose of the meeting and the people involved are right there in the emails. He confessed to meeting with the Russians in an attempt to undermine the Clinton campaign. It doesn’t get much clearer than that.

The evidence keeps mounting and this is just what has been made public. I can only imagine what Mueller has found.

Moggie

I’d forgotten that! “He wouldn’t listen to us, and he probably wouldn’t pay up”, say the good lawyers. It’s amazing to think that you’ve reached a situation where representing the POTUS or his family just isn’t worth it.

Buttercup Q. Skullpants

Don Jr. is the Fredo of the Trump family.

MSNBC is reporting that Trump was in Trump Tower at the time of the meeting. I wouldn’t be surprised if he and Preibus were listening in.

To be even more blunt, I wouldn’t be at ALL surprised if Drumpf Sr. knew all about it and sent Junior just in case it all blew up. He’s not above sacrificing a couple of sons to save his own ass.

This is strictly me speculating, though.
