Today’s MGTOW of the Day, fresh from the Men Going Their Own Way subreddit, has a rather unique perspective on the relative values of men and women. As he sees it, women are vastly inferior creatures whose only value stems from the fact that they can er, carry seed.
Men, by contrast, are … buses.
I’m not sure MGTOWs have quite mastered the fine art of the metaphor yet.
@Shiya, everyone
Shiya, as you saw I pretty much agree with you. The most important thing I think you said is this ” I thought racism and sexism would start fading away as older people died, but now I’m seeing younger people with those same prejudices more and more often” I’m paraphrasing cuz I don’t know how to put the quotes in boxes. That’s my big fear too. That is what we somehow need to fix
I thought the same thing when I was say 18, but now I’m 33 and shit seems to have gotten worse in that respect, not better. There were single years in my life where I didn’t experience any direct racism like being called slurs or stuff like that. Yeah small things are always there but in the last 6 months I’ve experienced more direct racism I think then I have in the entire rest of my life before hand. This absolutely terrifies me so that is why I think it’s so important to engage bigots or any kind of prejudiced people if they seem like they want to change.
Now as I’ve said before I’m naive and gullible by nature. I want to believe that the great majority of people are truly decent and kind and it makes me believe people who turn out to be full of shit sometimes. I’m willing to deal with that because every once in a blue moon someone is truly willing to change and truly does change and I think that’s needed now more than ever. I mean Klan members have repented and changed and I feel like if people like that can change anyone can.
Lastly, but in this case right now after I read the full thread up to this point I still would be willing to try to help afro, but it’s not one person who’s uncomfortable, obviously multiple people are notably uncomfortable and/or unhappy with him being here. His place here is also brand new while these people who are uncomfortable have been here forever and are already known to be commenters in good faith so I think it’s unfair to dismiss their beliefs and concerns.
With that I will say to Afro “if you are still reading do so, keep reading, keep paying attention, lurk and look what people get upset by and learn what misogyny and bigotry actually are. Look at the links people post and click on them, if you actually want to learn you would do these things without being able to comment also. Then maybe in 6 months or so you can try to comment again once you’ve made progress.
PS: if you actually do what I just said(which I highly highly doubt) in six months don’t refer to this earlier name, how does that help you learn?
Is this a hostage situation? Are you serving us for divorce?
@sfhc
WAHHH!!! r u fuckin real? L fucking O L!
@clever
I 1000% agree with you! You wrote what was bothering me very well.
@Katie
I agree with you,
I, too, am also too nice for my own good, so I realize that my Pollyanna-ish behavior might be out of place.
@Katz: No, I just wanted people to realize I was actually a fo-realz woman/feminist, and not to heap further blame on Afro.
And now I’m glad I continued paying attention to this thread, as I’ve been doxxed! Super fun.
Then you absolutely do not know what “doxxing” actually is, Shiya.
Learn that term’s meaning, because you don’t actually know.
@ Shiya:
Hey! Look, I agreed with some of your points (especially about trying to see the possible good in others), but also respectfully think the others who disagreed had firmer arguments (especially about being personally uncomfortable and wanting that to be respected, about the actual empirical evidence showing that pretty much all MRA/MGTOW visitors won’t learn and grow from their experiences here, and about the emotional cost of engaging with them).
I mostly lurk here and only rarely post myself, so take my input for what it’s worth. π
If you do as SFHC suggested and reverse image search your profile pic, you’ll find that this pic is used by 8 different LinkedIn accounts. So if that IS you, then your pic is being used by a bunch of people/businesses, possibly without your knowledge or consent, and you might want to do something about that.
Also, that isn’t doxxing. Your real identity/address/identifying info wasn’t shared by anyone here; that’s what doxxing entails.
Thank you guys, I always worry that my frustration may be a bit too much. Shiya, no one is publishing your info, you have not been doxxed.
:::rolling eyes so hard I’m fixin’ to break something:::
TIL Google Image searches are a form of doxxing.
http://68.media.tumblr.com/ce34fb92f0e7dd3551d43c07f06abbee/tumblr_o73k2jNSJ51ukes1io1_500.gif
I reverse image searched and only got my own profile. That is thus very linkable to my actual name, and at least a general location. So, I’m not in super panic mode about it (though I have asked David to delete all of the comments with that profile picture because I think you guys aren’t creepy weirdos, but it DOES open the door for OTHER creepy weirdos to find me in the future, and that’s non-awesome) but it’s pretty easy, actually, to find me IRL with only my name, as it is unique to me in the US.
So uh. Yeah. Stuff happens, but pretty doxxed.
Stop doxxing Agent Scully!
@Shiya
You can just change the image in gravatar associated with the email address you’re posting under. Older posts will be updated.
#NYS trolls always scream “DOXXING!” when I Google their stolen avatar (or recognise without Googling, in the case of that one dipshit who used a movie still of Denzel bloody Washington). I guess it’s easier than just not nicking somebody else’s picture. Β―\_(γ)_/Β―
And I agree, my own fault for using a real image of me that could be reverse image searched as my profile. Haha, don’t worry, NOTED. And if there’s doubt that it IS me, please compare bone structure with the earlier imgur pic (which CANNOT be reverse image searched, as I just took it like five minutes ago).
Man, for a room full of “don’t make anyone uncomfortable!” feminists, you guys sure take an easy-to-follow map towards finding my IRL info prett-ty casually.
@kupo I deleted the gravatar entirely. It remains.
SFHC: Please reverse image search this: http://i.imgur.com/IgYmBwY.jpg REMARKABLY SIMILAR PICTURE TO MY PROFILE. Same nose, same eyes, different hair color oh boy! You’re revealing my actual real life information, but thanks for doubling down. π
@ Shiya:
Huh. When I right click on the profile pic and select “Search Google for this image” I get a results page with 5 LinkedIn profiles showing that pic, and the next page of results has 3 more profiles showing that pic.
Now, this is where it gets strange: actually clicking on those profiles (which I just now did) shows them with different pics in their actual profiles. So I’m not sure what any of this means.
I’m not trying to be contentious, but this still isn’t doxxing. Doxxing entails having someone look up your real life info then share that actual info (e.g. your real name, address, and so on) over the internet. Nobody here did that. Pointing out that reverse image searches exist and can be performed on your profile pic (as on any pic) doesn’t constitute doxxing.
Anyhow, I don’t wish to argue. I was only trying to clarify to you what others saw and how that might be misconstrued.
Hope you have a good evening.
ETA: As JS noted, it’s dangerous to post any personal or identifiable info here. The regulars aren’t the threat though; I cannot imagine any of them ever wishing to use such info to hurt anyone. But MRAs and their ilk do visit, and I don’t want you to experience trouble with them. Best of luck.
Ditto Collateral Thought, your image may be being used against your wishes. Also beware using your true image or name here. There are some misogynists who read this site, and some of them are mean enough to harrass women who post here and have easily found names.
You can change your profile pic the same way you set it up the first time. Otherwise, every time you post anywhere that uses gravatar, it’ll show up again. Something surreal and/or unrelated to you personally is probably best. It will eventually update everywhere that gravatar is used for profiles.
If you right-click on it now, you get the default quilt print, Shiya.
@Collateral: Fair enough. And it’s, again, my own fault for not thinking through the implications of using an actual, otherwise used picture of myself in my profile. However, now that SFHC has actually done some leg work to finding out my real name, pointing out the ease of finding me is kiiiinda doxxing. She/he has not DIRECTLY posted my real name, but they’ve made it super easy to find on your own.
TIL that if someone puts their information publicly on the web where anyone can look at it, and you look at it, and then you mention having looked at it without linking or reposting any of the information, you have doxxed them.
This is so fucking ridiculous! Hahah! Holee shit, the hills people gotta die on. Is anybody else feel like this is some triple meta trolling experience?
Nobody DOXXED YOU.
You’re playing YOURSELF now.
Knock this shit OFF, Shiya.
It is perhaps performance art?
shiya rn:
@PeeVee: Thanks, that seems true. π You’re awesome. And it’s likely the case the image is just cached for everyone else, and any new accesses of this will simply show the quilt image (or, my new gravatar, a puppy I found on the internet!)
@JS: Yes, as I mentioned, duly noted! Haha. My own stupid fault, you’d think I didn’t grow up on the internet or something! And I had already deleted the gravatar, and have now updated it to a puppy picture. As I mentioned above, it was just cached, so didn’t appear to be updating to me.
@Collateral: Additionally, pretty perturbing that other people may be using my pic? The marketing co that was mentioned above is legit, that’s a former org I was with. But I don’t see any profiles using it other than mine. The OTHER other profile that showed up through reverse image search (with an animal pic) is actually a former coworker; likely I probably commented on his things at some point and so my pic was there? Only guess I’ve got.
