Here’s a little case study in alt-right hypocrisy.
Last week, like a lot of people, the wannabe self-help guru and alt-right opinion-haver who calls himself “DarkTriadMan” professed to be outraged by Kathy Griffin posing for photos with a stylized severed head of Donald Trump.
Given that DarkTriadMan’s whole schtick is based on the idea that men should act more like psychopaths if they want to get ahead in life, you wouldn’t think he’d be much bothered by Griffin’s admittedly dark stunt, but he made quite a show of his outrage, endlessly retweeting alt-right attacks on Griffin and adding his own spin to the news:
https://twitter.com/DarkTriadMan/status/870652822836195328
He was glad to see Griffin brought to tears by the reaction to her photos:
https://twitter.com/DarkTriadMan/status/870689717049634816
And fantasized about Barron Trump ultimately taking his revenge:

https://twitter.com/DarkTriadMan/status/869958745186590720
Today, in the wake of latest London attacks, Mr. Dark Triad seems to have gotten over his squeamishness about Griffin’s supposed call for violence against a sitting politician. Now he’s quite openly calling for the mass slaughter of Muslims.

https://twitter.com/DarkTriadMan/status/871355215215304704
He’s also talking about how great it would be if the mayor of London — a sitting politician, like Trump, with two children — were to be burned at the stake.
https://twitter.com/DarkTriadMan/status/871354479593091072
Or impaled:

Or torn apart by horses:

Or blinded and hung:

This is more or less what I’ve come to expect from the alt-right; their “moral outrage” is almost always in very bad faith. But it’s still a little surprising to see just how blatant their hypocrisy can be.
@IP
Are you fully vegan? I will not be offended if you don’t want to answer, I’m just curious. Your dishes are sparking an interest in me for vegan food. They sure do look tasty.
I’m kind of surprised honey chipotle BBQ sauce is available in Sweden. I love barbecue, but I don’t prepare it too often, because my spouse thinks it’s nasty.
@Francesca Torpedo & IgnoreSandra
Uuugghh…turkey, so blah. I’m another person who only cooks a turkey for Thanksgiving because it’s traditional. One of these years, I’m going to go the goose or duck route.
@Mish of the Catlady Ascendency
Sorry?. The food talk is making me feel hungry, too, and it’s just about time for bed now, where I am.
PaganReader, thank you!
That is precisely the brain bleach I needed! ?
You ever notice that at some point these threads always devolve into talking about food? Am I the only one who notices that?
Pagan reader:
DAAAAAAAAWWWWW.
Why are you trying to kill me with cuteness!?
Linking to a Mark Dice tweet just screams “I’m wrong about literally everything.” For those who don’t know him, imagine a less loud Alex Jones with possibly more extreme views. On top of that, how does 100 million dead in the 20th century follow from anything else in that tweet?
@kupo
Can’t go wrong with ginger and sesame! Were the noodles a lot of work?
@Dormousing_it
No, not even close. I am still, sadly, very dependent on dairy. I’m addicted to cereal with milk, yogurt, cheese, ice cream, all that good stuff. I’ve only been vegetarian for less than 2 years, but it’s been a great decision. I sometimes miss burgers, turkey, salami, sausage, steak… but most of the time the thought of eating meat just grosses me out. I feel like I’m 100% certain I will never eat meat (on purpose) again.
I’d like to be vegan, but I don’t think it’ll happen anytime soon. I do enjoy cooking vegan. Whenever I come up with a recipe that can fairly easily be turned vegan, I tend to do so. I figure vegan dinner 3 days a week is better than 0 days.
Edit: I enjoy many Quorn products, but most of them aren’t vegan since they have egg white.
@Fujimoto, that tweet just uses the classic right wing “argument” that anyone to the left of Ronald Reagan or whoever is a Stalinist or a Maoist, who wants to engage in mass murder of their political opponents. Of course it’s even more stupid than usual given the context, where Throne is calling for mass murder of Muslims.
If anyone is interested in recipes, this guy is amazing. He’s also an incredible human being and I would like to clone him and put him all over the world <3
@IP (and love to Fingie who has convinced my mum to start a Twitter account, pretending to be a cat)
I hear you on the vegan thing. Giving up meat and meat products was quite easy for me (over 20 years ago) but dairy 🙁
I’ve eaten it twice: once by accident when served the wrong spring rolls; once when homeless and starving and it was the only option. I think I’m safe from the Bad Vegetarian Police for now.
It totally isn’t selective to have no issue with the previous president being portrayed as a number of racist caricatures and yelling about FREEZE PEACH the moment when called out for it, but also take umbrage in a comedian mocking the current president with a paper mache head covered in jam as if it is far worse ’cause reasons!
Oh, wait, no – it actually is very selective…
@Mish:
Presentism is an intellectual disease – an erroneous notion that current events can completely coincide with past events, regardless of their actual context.
I mean, there’s a reason evo-psych is popular amongst these people: it’s easier to claim that the way men or women act is just a “bio-truth”, as if it has always been the case, while avoiding the notion any of their behavior might be socially-influenced and thus hold more responsibility than they’re willing to acknowledge.
Shaun, of the YouTube channel “Shaun and Jen”, did a really good video explaining this when dealing with Stefan Molyneux’s completely self-serving interpretation of the Roman Empire’s history.
https://youtu.be/BHW3Y_p2llo
It’s kind of infuriating, really. An actual appreciation of history requires one to realize that past societies, their values, and why events taking place around them happened are almost alien to how we function and perceive the world in this day and age.
That’s not to say one can’t draw parallels, the problem comes from projecting modern notions onto time periods where such notions could not be applied without misinterpretation. It’s why I almost flip the fuck out when some right-leaning libertarian is using some historical event to prove why free market capitalism is a good thing…in a time where the idea of free market capitalism didn’t exist.
I’ve had no problem giving up meat either, but I just don’t ever see giving up cheese. I love it too much. Dairy free ice cream is okay. Soy cheese is not in my experience any good. I also eat a lot of quiche. I could maybe give up eggs otherwise, but quiche Florentine is one of my favorite foods.
@IP
I’m a full-blooded carnivore with no plans to change that anytime soon (or possibly ever), but your food in those photos looks really good!
ETA: I’m still here. Can’t always comment due to my work schedule, but I’m still here and still reading.
@Petal
The noodles were a lot easier than I expected they would be. The night before it was about 5-10 minutes to mix the ingredients and form the dough ball, then day of it was about 15 minutes to roll out the dough and cut it up. I’m not very skilled at rolling out dough so that might take less time for someone with more rolling pin skillz. 😉 I decided to roll it out on plastic wrap so it wouldn’t stick to the counter (as gluten free dough is wont to do), and I feel like that was a good call, as the whole bottom side had absorbed all the flour I put down by the time I was done. Hope that helps!
@NickNameNick,
Nthing everything you said in your post, and thanks for the video link – I’m looking forward to watching it this afternoon.
I’ll be forever grateful that two of my teachers during my Honours degree were trained historians, who insisted that historical knowledge/context be embedded in everything we wrote.
Yet another reason I love reading Foucault – he’s so immersed in history, but absolutely refuses to idealise or romanticise it.
(should’ve written that in the past tense, but he’s not dead to me, not listening, nah nah nah)
Those who fail to study history are condemned to repeat it.
Those who study history are condemned to watch it repeat.
I was vegetarian for about 5 years, and vegan for another 3. I did eventually return to meat-eating, but I still cook a lot of vegetarian and vegan dishes.
I was never particularly philosophically opposed to meat-eating, I just 1) was poor, and b) didn’t really know how to cook it (see #1). I like it now because I’ve learned how to cook it properly, but even so I only eat maybe 3 or 4 meat dishes a week, mostly chicken and fish. I do have a soft spot for sushi. I’ll have steak maybe once a year, though in the winter I do like to make chili from beef or pork roast.
When I was vegetarian/vegan, I missed bacon most. And there is no good cheese substitute, you’re better off just going without it. I do love cheese but I’ve found a very light hand is all you really need.
I will forever love just about any combination of brown rice and beans. And I’m a sucker for spicy peanut sauce on anything.
Turkey is my favorite kind of meat. I’d eat some just to spite the haters, but I already made some delicious BBQ turkey sandwiches and used up all I got for lunch.
Too late for the edit:
Those who watch the history channel will be condemned to watching repeats.
You know i talking bullshit when i ended every tweet with ‘you know I’m right’
You know I’m right.
@dreemr
Cheese is amazing! It makes me little bit sickness inside my stomach but i still eating ? my girlfriend always telling me i stupid for eating it because of this. But if you eat before you go sleep you get very cool dreams…
Looks like everyone sleeping now so i will use this oppotunity to defend majonez against the hatred again. Long live majonez! Also today i watched Sausage Party – i feel like someone attacked my brain with sticks. What is this fucking movie?
Sausage Party is what happens when you’re high and famous enough to know you’re gross ass “funny” fantasy can get made
RE: Turkey:
I’ve been told when me and my sister were very little, one Thanksgiving we insisted on having the traditional dinner with the turkey served on the table. (Before they would only need to buy half a turkey, which would be cut up and plated in the kitchen. With lasagna, because my Grandfather is Italian, and he needed his Italian food)
So that Thanksgiving we had an entire turkey on the table, and me and my sister quickly realized to our horror that the turkey was actually bird, which used to be alive, and we refused to eat any of it. (To quote my sister, “The poor turkey is in turkey heaven”)
OT
The murderous shittiness of the far right really knows no bounds, and as the article says – it is our politicians who embolden them.

@Valentine,
Entree from Spliced loves his majonez, too 😀

He even has a list of things to do with mayo other than eat it
