Hey, you remember that New Hampshire state representative who, it turns out, was also the founder of the exceedingly icky woman-hating Red Pill subreddit? Today, apparently tired of answering questions about what a misogynistic shit he is, he quit.
Here’s the Daily Beast, the publication that uncovered Fisher’s role in founding the subreddit in the first place, on this latest development:
Representative Robert Fisher, the Republican who was recently unmasked as the creator and chief moderator of The Red Pill, one of the internet’s most notorious forums for misogyny, resigned on Wednesday following a New Hampshire legislative committee’s passing of a recommendation that no action be taken against him and a call from Democrats that the Attorney General investigate him for lying under oath.
Fisher had previously refused to resign, resisting demands from within his own party, including New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, a Republican, who called Fisher’s online comments “horrendous and repulsive.”
Which is if anything an understatement.
Before you award the Republicans any awards for courage here, though, you should know that the reason that committee didn’t vote to discipline him is that all of the Republicans on it voted for no action; the Dems on the committee all supported some kind of sanctions.
It’s also worth noting that Fisher sees himself as the victim here. According to the Concord Monitor,
Fisher explained his resignation Wednesday afternoon, without apology.
“Unfortunately, the falsehoods, lies and comments of an overzealous blogger and some of my colleagues have created a situation where I must genuinely consider the safety and well-being of my girlfriend, my family, and myself,” he said in an email. “It is with a heavy heart that I will be unable to complete my term.”
Poor baby. Apparently being a TRUE ALPHA DOG RED PILLER is tough, at least once the world finds out that you’re a TRUE ALPHA DOG RED PILLER.
H/T — @Kinderschwein on Twitter, the first of several to point me to this development
It is a dishonor to all women that he was permitted to resign, instead of being forcibly ousted from his seat and forbidden from all political or government positions of any sort henceforth.
For the first time.
Oh, stop. A heart is something you don’t have.
Wait — did you buy one, the way Dick Cheney did?
If so, it’s struggling to escape your body.
I think it’s fucking hilarious that assholes think they can sail through life saying any horrible thing they want behind the “anonymity” of the internet, without consequence spilling over to meatspace.
Words have consequences.
Actions have consequences.
Ha ha, you found out just how real the “Red Pill” is.
Tee hee.
I, too, am concerned for the well-being of his girlfriend and family. May they take whatever steps they need to get the hell out of his sphere of influence.
Yes! What a brilliant development! These people need to learn that they can’t just say and encourage whatever sick shit they want and face no consequences, particularly for one brazen enough to also be a politician.
The women of his area are safer without this ‘man’ in a position of power.
That said, IgnoreSandra, I quite agree. While these consequences are great results, he should be prevented from ever holding office anywhere and it is truly an insult to women he is not.
I hate it when these oddities start spouting off about their ‘wife’ and their ‘family’ and so forth. His kind of person is those who harass and endanger innocent families. We don’t do that (I bet he could come up with, at most, one example he’s heard of) while people like him cheer that behaviour on all the freaking time. We should call this fakery out for what it is.
Despicable man, this couldn’t have happened sooner!
PeeVee:
Well up to now, that’s a tactic that has worked for him. It’s really only catching up to him now, as there were never consequences before, especially the first time he ever posted, then he got a taste for doing it, and kept going.
For some reason ppl like him seem to think it’s a state of behaving that can and should last forever.
It’s also my understanding that’s there’s an entire contingent of white men who want to very happily return this country to 1957, an era when they could bully anyone, anywhere, anyhow, without consequences.
If I didn’t know any fairly decent white men (Gob bless ’em! Because they are holding up their whole gender right now.) I’d be inclined to believe that white men have had some kind of collective fecking meltdown in the last fifteen years. Just about every story in my news feed lately is about white men behaving very, very badly!
To make a Kirby comparison: you beat Dedede, but Dark Matter’s still lurking over the horizon.
Still.
Seconded!!
Would this be his Totally Real Non-Inflatable Girlfriend Ashley?
Quoting you accurately isn’t lying.
Ikeke35,
I know, I know. A friend of mine calls it “aggrieved entitlement”, but I am glad that at least some of these chucklefucks are getting a small measure of comeuppence.
Hippodameia,
Shhhh!! Even alluding to him might summon him back!

That is all.
Unfortunately Fisher’s case got tied in with that of a Democratic woman legislator who made some remarks that many here would agree with but were probably injudicious for a legislator.
The discipline committee decided not to expel either of them.
Misfortune has nothing to do with it. That was entirely deliberate on the part of Republican members of the congress.
“…I must genuinely consider the safety and well-being of my girlfriend, my family, and myself…”
Oh, like Anita Sarkeesian? Maybe Brianna Wu? How many death threats have you received? How about threats to rape and torture you? To rape and torture your children? Have you had bomb threats called into public venues you’re scheduled to appear? Vile insults directed at your girlfriend for associating with you? Has your parents address been published online? Are private photos being hacked and illegally distributed? Are you frightened to appear in public?
What a chickenshit.
In other news:

Keep in mind Michael Flynn was a paid agent of the Turkish government, and Trump called to congratulate Erdogan on the victory of the referendum that gave him dictator-like powers.
Yeah, Trump is a real turkey, in more ways than one.
Great news 🙂 One shithead down.
The Republican Party is literally an anti-woman hate party at this point. It’s grotesque, yet because sexism is so ubiquitous, they continue to get away with it. A pro-slavery party would rightly be seen as a hate group. A party that has rape apologists and advocates for controlling women’s reproductive functions as though women are cattle? Nope, they’re totally ok. The worst part is the old, ignorant women who vote for them out of some nebulous sense of white or religious identity. This fake identity created for the express purpose of duping ignorant voters is the only reason Repubs can convince anyone to buy their snake oil salesmanship.
To misquote Margaret Atwood, men are taught to be more afraid of being laughed at than being killed. In this case, he seems to be conflating the two.
Having seen what Fisher’s online activities are, I think his girlfriend and family might have more to fear from him than from his enemies.
Apparently Roger Ailes has died.
Sorry to OT!
Chris Cornell has also died. </3 I hope he is at peace.
Oh shitballs. This is my state.
Given the shitty things he’s said about rape and the fact the House Ethics Committee has not condemned him, I’m fucking terrified what this means about rape prosecutions.
Is this fucking ever going to end? My lord, I’m spent from all the rancid bigotry the right has spewed at me.
@EJ
I have what I call the bisexual/pansexual corollary to that famous Attwood quote:
“I am scared that women will emotionally use me, and I am fucking terrified that men will physically assault me.”
OT: An interesting little thing that popped up on my fb feed today.

It’s almost as if he can’t take the same sort of abuse that Red Pillers like to pile on top of female politicians who don’t agree with them. What was that about “snowflakes”?
@Jesalin: Just don’t read the comments, which are full of people saying “Why can’t people just take a compliment??? Why do you have to be cocky about it???” and “why are they creating this divide between men and women?”
Ugh. Is there a named law about never reading the comments on things? (I always hope to find another considerate community like here…)
