Since Joan of Arc came up I’ll mention that between 2006 and 2015 Harlequin, under their Gold Eagle “men’s adventure” imprint, published a series called Rogue Angel. It revolved around a young archeologist and TV personality named Annja Creed, who comes into possession of Joan’s sword when two of Joan’s knights reassemble it, from its long dispersed fragments, after searching for them for centuries. Although the books are credited on the covers to Alex Archer they were actually written by a variety of authors, including science fiction writer Victor Milan and multi-genre writer Mel Odom.

The thing about the “goofy men” sort of plots Arun Eden-Lewis mentions in his rant is that they often support the status quo of gender relations and roles. “Goofy man” gets into trouble because he does “women’s things,” like trying to take care of the kids, or cook, or wash clothing. So the message is pretty obvious, men shouldn’t do that stuff, only women should.

Any questioning of that system will be met with “but it’s natural for women!” Disregard their own input on the matter as human beings. Disregard all else who are non-binary, can’t / do not want children, apart of the LGBT community.

That has been the case with virtually every successful society in history. Matriarchies just don’t survive when pitted against patriarchal societies, because might makes right a lot of the time, and patriarchies, which are more martial in spirit than matriarchies, are definitely willing (and able) to use might to acquire their means for survival.

That’s not evidence that female submissiveness is natural. You’re only arguing that patriarchy is violent, which I actually agree with. Try again. What is your evidence that women are naturally submissive housewives? I’ll give you a hint. If a trait differs greatly across time and culture, it’s probably safe to say that it’s largely influenced by culture. If a trait is consistent across times and cultures, your argument that it’s “natural” is much stronger. For example, all human cultures have language. The languages themselves differ, but unless there’s some sort of disability preventing it, we all talk. And we learn to talk even without being taught to it. There have been feral child families found where they’ve developed their own primitive language without ever having gone to school or been taught by parents. Can you show that women being submissive housewives is ubiquitous in the way that language is?

What do you mean by technological innovation? Humans have been making and using tools for a very long time. Way before feminism. Some non human animals and use tools too. I don’t see what one thing has to with another.

Statistics on women’s happiness? Compared to when? I’m betting there are no available statistics for women’s happiness pre-feminism. So you don’t even have correlation, let alone causation. What studies show that feminism is the cause of unhappiness? Happiness is ill defined. Research on it tends to rely on self reporting which can be problematic. I think you’re going to have hard time backing up this claim, but please do try.

Your arguments are what I mean when I say that even when you aren’t in meltdown mode and are trying to be reasonable, you just aren’t as intelligent as you think you are. You just don’t seem to have thought through things very well. You’re starting with the conclusion and trying to justify those conclusions rather than actually looking at evidence and deriving conclusions from that evidence.

It’s adorable that you thought this was a gotcha. Patriarchy socializes men and boys to feel entitled to the bodies of women and girls. This is where rape culture comes from. Anti-rape campaigns aimed at young men* is an attempt to undo that socialization or if started young, keep boys from ever learning that entitlement in the first place. These campaigns are not an argument that men are biologically hardwired to be rapists. Also, “boys will be boys” is most certainly not something feminists say. It’s something misogynists say to silence women when they object to harassment, objectification, abuse or rape.

Your logic remains faulty there. If birthing babies is NOT the only thing that women want, and is NOT their sole purpose (i.e. if it’s not “the most natural place for a woman”), then it makes sense that women want to be able to control their own bodies and their own sexuality, and not just be used as broodmares. People have all sorts of harmful and selfish desires. People see things that they covet, and they want to steal them. People get angry, and want to harm or kill others. That’s natural! But civilization entails learning to curb those selfish desires so we can live together in relative harmony. We don’t allow people to do whatever stupid shit their first impulse impels them towards.

Why is rape such a difficult thing to stop, and why is so much time spent talking about it? Well, a lot of people really like sex, and a lot of people (both those who have had good sex, and those who have only heard about it) think about and desire sex quite often. And we live in a rape culture, where men are (often and generally) taught that women exist for pleasure, and that women owe men sexual gratification, and that the desire to rape someone is on some level normal and understandable. All of these factors contribute to making rape a particularly common kind of violent crime. All of these factors require education to overcome.

So that’s why we continue to need to teach men not to rape. But also why we continue to need to teach people in general not to do horrible things to each other, and in a larger sense is why we have a penal system, and police.

You seem to have a bizarre fixation that causes you to assume that “natural” is the same as “good for society”. If you think that people should just do whatever feels right to them, I invite you to read The Lord of the Flies sometime. Or go visit Sudan.

I had already read the Wikipedia page for BPD, I was just looking for videos online of people’s experiences with the disorder or their experiences with those who have it.

This was her first ever diabetic shock so the other aunts were a bit panicked. Why wouldn’t they, this is their sister and she was barely lucid. The 911 operator had trouble hearing them due to them speaking ESL alongside Cantonese. I helped by being the one calm enough to tell the paramedics the problem and the address. I guess it was a good thing I stayed home instead of going to the library today right?
