Hey everyone, just a quick note to let you know that I am still here! Sorry for the lack of posts for the last few days. I have been on a Migraine Vacation, which alas is not a vacation from migraines. Nope. I’ve just had a series of migraines (they always come in bunches for me) that have kept me from working on the blog.
Hopefully these will ease up a bit (they haven’t yet) and I’ll be able to get back to normal blogging shortly. In the meantime, hey, check out the archives!
Thanks for your patience!
Hi David, I hope you feel better soon! Many internet hugs and kittens for you!
I was going to write this in the last sort-of open thread, but here’s my update: I’ve been fired from the job I had for the past 8 years 🙁
I feel sad and betrayed but also full of energy to give the battle now. Luckily my gf Mar still has a steady job.
I’ve got my appointment with Social Security to get an unemployment insurance, and I also qualify for assistance for having a child in my care. Thanks, dancing CFK!

I’m starting my job hunt right away but I’m also evaluating other options like a project to make clothes with some friends, o doing Tarot readings, or even learning a new craft.
I’m also considering doing something online, I have never done any crowdfunding or monetizing yet and I feel pretty clueless but what a best time to learn than now?
I’ll let you know if I have any success at all in this endeavors! All advice and tips are more than welcome!
Finally, a vogueing Cristina for good luck to you all
And more kitty because KITTY!!

Oof, multiple migraines. I’m sorry, David, and hope you feel better soon.
Feel better soon. Migraines are the worst.
Huh, Trump just came out strongly against anti-Semitism. Wonder how that’s going to play over on the alt-reich.
I wonder if this means the Kushner-Bannon schism is cracking wider apart.
But MOST of all I wonder what I can whip up for lunch.
MOD IS KNOCKED OUT WITH A MIGRAINE, TIME TO POST… the same boring shit I always do. Get well soon.
I think I’m gonna trust David’s judgement on this one and assume he didn’t fall in a well. The question is, if he didn’t fall into a well, what did he fall in? A crevasse? A trench? Love?
Thanks, everyone, for the support! And my sympathies to all fellow migraineurs here. I’m feeling a bit better today and just put a post up, about that gross Red Pill Republican rep, whom you all seem to have discovered before I did.
Luzbelitx, sorry to hear you lost your job; heartened to see you’re full of energy to find a new and hopefully better one!
Hope you’re ok and getting better, David. Unfortunately I am terribly cat-deprived (eh, we have a dog and the dog has Opinions) and thus unable to send you the requisite feline helpfulness-vibe (the neighbours have cats, though, and I’m sure they will fill the gap). Thank you so much for making this place.
@Iseult: This was being discussed at another forum I go to and everyone was enjoying the baawwwwing from the Nazi types.
Get well soon David.
(speaking of Wells)

Ugh. Feel better.
Luxbeltix, I’m sorry to hear that!
David, glad you’re feeling (slightly) better.
My sympathies David. I hope they wear off soon.
Semi-OT thing I found on Yahoo just now:
https://www.yahoo.com/beauty/stealthing-inside-world-men-remove-100700967.html
Stealthing, when a guy removes his condom without his partner’s consent. Never knew that practice had an actual name attached to it before.
And I hope you’re feeling better too, David.
I know from unfortunate personal experience, migraines are the worst. And sometimes nothing will stop one but time, although I’ve had a few cats try purring into my head (didn’t work, but made me feel a little better).
Redsilkphoenix, I read that the other day, and then I wondered what these goddamned assholes would do if the woman wound up pregnant and gave birth.
These morons totally do not think beyond their immediate gratification, do they?
Redsilkphoenix,
Funny how for all the whining MRAs do about spermjacking, it’s often men who engage in reproductive coercion by sabotaging birth control.
@redsilkphoenix: I saw this concept a few times over the past week, I wonder why it’s popping up so much now?
Also scary as fuck.
@PeeVee, @WWTH, @Rhuu,
I’m guessing it’s being talked about now because someone(s) official researched enough stories to say ‘yes, this act not only exists, but is a lot more common than first thought and often premeditated to boot; the law needs changing to stop it.’
My guess, anyway.
Sasquatch Henderson over in the other thread needs to read this.
I thought it was called sexual assange.
I’m going to slightly derail the thread to talk about my latest obsession: Bendy and the Ink Machine.
Because. Oh. My. GODS.
I love this game so far. It’s a horror game that’s all classic black-and-white, white-gloved cartoon character styled, and it’s about a cult surrounding Bendy, a devil character.
And I just adore Bendy’s design.
Lookit how adorable and slightly off-putting he is!
I feel like this is gonna become slightly like FNaF, but at the same time, I really like Bendy a lot better because it’s not simply waiting for a jumpscare to happen. Not that I dislike FNaF per se, it’s got a pretty amazing story with a good set of characters, but I don’t like the mechanics of it.
There’s a lot more subtlety to Bendy, and I appreciate that.
Have some music too.
Hope you don’t mind me using this as an open thread, but some people here like science trivia, so I thought I’d share this.
We got on about nuclear bomb testing and the effects on the atmosphere. I mentioned that art forgery case I did where they could tell a painting was done after the 50s because of the isotopes in the paint.
But then a mate who works with radiation told us that all Geiger counters are made from steel recovered from ships sunk prior to 1945 because modern steel is too irradiated.
Love stuff like that.
@Alan Robertshaw.
I like that! I have some experience with being monitored for background radiation from when I worked underground more regularly. I had to wear a dosimeter to check I wasn’t absorbing too much radon gas when doing more than 200 tours a year.
One of the nastiest tricks nature ever played on cavers is in Giant’s Hole in Derbyshire. There’s a passage called the Crabwalk, 800 metres long, less than 50cm wide in most places, carrying a raging river of freezing on a steep slope. It’s ‘sporty’, to put it mildly. At the end of this is a nice, big, dry, roomy chamber called Great Relief Passage, named after how people feel when getting there. It’s a spot where people wait, have a brew, sometimes camp if it’s a longer trip. It’s also the most naturally radioactive place in the UK, with an annual average of 46,000 Bq per square metre – in houses, I believe it’s considered dangerous if the average rate exceeds 200 Bq.
I know of one guy who sets off the radiation monitors going IN to Sellafield. I’ve never tried it myself, but it might be ‘fun’.
So… maybe avoiding the apocalypse deep underground ISN’T the best approach.
@ Dan
We obviously have a lot of Radon here. It’s mildly amusing that on the UN list of radiological hazards ‘living in Cornwall’ is a separate category.
Cancer rates are lower though in areas of high background radiation. No one is sure whether that’s because radiation in low doses actually builds immunity (there’s a scientific word for that, that I can’t remember) or if people susceptible to cancer have been removed from the gene pool.
Those pools at Sellafield where they store all the old irradiated equipment are one of the spookiest places on Earth. Still probably healthier than the pool at the Brazil Olympics though.
