If these twonks are talking about FO4, dayum, they mustn’t have paid any attention to even one word of the plot, because the game’s central theme is “Racism and why it’s fucking terrible” and it’s not particularly shy about showing it. In fact, violence is the last damn resort but when you see this sort of glee at it… it tells you a lot about what we’re facing right now as a country and thanks to Trump shoving this on the national stage, as a world.

I once watched a documentary about the Third Reich. One of the clips was footage of Communtists and Brownshirts openly fighting in the streets of Berlin. America I fear is heading that way. We are reaching a point where the Alt Righters and NeoNazis are going to provoke or force the Left into open warfare. Just reading the glee and eagerness in their tweets in attacking their opperents makes me feel dirty. God help us all.

I can only go on my own experience here, but there are unfortunately elements in antifascist groups very much inclined towards violence too. I dipped my toe into antifascist movements 20+ years ago, and one of the things that made me uncomfortable, was that some of those involved were clearly spoiling for physical confrontation. All the bloody time.

I think it’s still there today. A small number of antifa protestors always tend to be arrested for violence or criminal damage, when they turn up to challenge the EDL or British First rolling into a random town or city here in the UK.

2 decades ago, the problem was simply with Skins. They were marginalised, and a fringe group. The Alt Right types now? Much more mainstreamed, and that’s a scary prospect. That bare-naked fascism has become so acceptable among the young boggles my mind.

Violence is a fact of life. I really wish it wasn’t, but it is, and will likely always be. Anyone here who is concerned about their own personal safety might want to take inspiration from someone like this guy:

I definitely don’t think there’s moral equivalence, but obviously, that doesn’t make physical confrontation the answer either. And as Andy says (I’m British, too), it would likely be naive to think none of the Antifas want trouble, ether, and reporting will potentially be biased, if they make that mistake and respond violently.

And my money would be on the Alt-rightists having all the guns.

It’s indeed hopeless to debate them, if anything it’s only encouraged them. It might be the guy listening you’re really aiming to convince and not the fascist debate-opponent, but as I think we’ve seen, them being debated still only legitimises their views.

Would it be possible to go around them? Ignore them, debate less far right, bring in ‘moderates’ (insofar as you even have any), move the Overton window back left that way?

Either way, I think you want visible contrast, not masses of (to the uninitiated) undifferentiated street fighting. I’m not just thinking about who is right, but who will be SEEN to be right – actual right and wrong aren’t being distinguished as much right now.

My uncle was around for Easter – he’s a long-time socialist agitator who most definitely believes in violence. Had a number of tips for me as a young man who might soon be called to take to the streets to, quote, “Give some fucking skinheads a proper kicking.” He even offered to pass on his steel-cap boots, as he no longer used them. While his stories were equal parts entertaining and horrifying, it’s worth noting he’s never been in a fight in an area where either the police or the fascists routinely carried firearms.

To move the Overton window requires alot of introspection that frankly none of the GOP cares to do.

There were alt-reich people telling each other to tack flags onto clubs to pretend they are flagpoles and other tricks to sneak weapons in. This was premeditated violence, set in motion by white supremacists.

It’s a usual neo-nazi thing to spread knowledge how to hide weapons when they go to stomp at leftist demonstrations. Knifes in plastic bags, cardboard signs on clubs, etc. Which is another reason for treating fascist scumbags as a clear and present danger.

Yes, I get the impression you’re right about the GOP not doing any introspection. Is that though a potential advantage? It seems like a lot of them just go along with what they think the (right wing) status quo is, they’re highly conformist. So, manage to budge things at all (or convince them that they have already budged), maybe they’d deal? I think things shifted so much towards the far right to being with partly because they’re weren’t doing any stopping and thinking much at all. The far right stuff got normalised.

You can have all our Tories if you like, America? Get them to join the GOP and you’d actually shift things left. Actually that might well happen if they joined your Dems, too, at least, I doubt it’d make it any worse.

But, I’m assuming (hoping?) even most right wing American women still want to be able to do things like vote and go to college? If so, they’ve already budged. So maybe they need to be made to realise they think things have moved on, too.

Back when Richard Spence got punched, lots of people were saying it was moral to punch fascists, and I posted in a bunch of places warning not to go there. The alt-righters have a WAY higher willingness to inflict violence than you do. Plus a lot more weapons.

I’m wondering what the MRA’s think of (attractive) Lauren Southern. Is she okay because she’s sort of in their camp, or is she just another alpha female taunting the betas? Garwsh this is complicated.
