Hey, folks. Just a note to let you know that I’m still, you know, alive. So, alas, is my flu.
That said, I do seem to be getting a bit better, day by day. I’m hoping I’ll be back posting again pretty soon.

Huh. That’s not too surprising but kind of more shitty when I think about how he would always complain about that type of guy in the comedy world. So many leftist dudes like to play the part and pat themselves on the back for being such great allies to women (or anyone, really). I haven’t listened since they started smoking weed a while ago and imo got really annoying about it. Like how I imagine I sounded to my nonsmoking friends when I was a young stoner. Now I’m curious who is on the show now? I’ll have to check in. Thanks for the info.

Oh, possibly ! I just gave the recipe my grand-mother and my mother used. Likely not the original one. We have variations with our local alcools rather than rhum too, but being local means they are unlikely to be use outside the region.

Did the The Hite Report on Female Sexuality, in 1976, not stating those fact already (not the stats comparison, but what was likely to help cis-women to reach seventh heaven ?) ? Of course, it is an old one, and there (maybe ?) has been an evolution of sexual mores (manners ?) – the report was stating that about 70% of cis-women at this time never reach orgasm during intercourse – but i suppose main basic technics have not change ?
And no trace of trans-women in the research ?

Wow, they let go themselves, it seems. I wonder if they burn the giant puppets at the end of the carnival, like in Spain (if i am not wrong).
Uber: they take the jobs of (working-class, often foreign-born) cabdrivers, and when one of their drivers assaults a woman or runs over a pedestrian, they don’t want to take responsibility. Two women have now come forward to allege that Uber is rife with sexual harassment. (Who’da thunk it?!) The second one wrote this:
I am an Uber survivor.

Little Kellyanne Conway gets comfy on the sofa while Daddy meets with the presidents of historically black universities. In my opinion, she’s not yet mature enough for Take Your Child to Work Day. Maybe next year!

I didn’t read the study, just made some quips based on Guardian coverage. Seems like it’s a pain to get good sample sizes of LGB people, so they might not even try with T people.
@ danholme
Nope, t’other side of the Dales. We’d been up to Malham ‘technically bigger than Niagara Falls’ Cove but then just ended up wandering around aimlessly vaguely heading in the direction of Skipton (or at least hoping we were).
@ danholme
Oh, in the recent storms Malham actually had some water going over it, so for a few hours it was the highest waterfall in the world again.
Get well soon, David. I have e been feeling a bit down too recently. And mostly because of depression though 🙁
@AlanRobertshaw
Smashing photo there sir! One of your own or from the ‘net?
A friend of mine got very excited about the thought of Malham Cove because he reckons it’s in one of the Harry Potter movies (number 7, when they’re on the run). I took to him some much nicer limestone pavement but I can tell we’ll be going back there soon.
We were up on Ingleborough the week before last, before storm Doris but after some heavy weather, and there was a lot of snowmelt in the caves. We went into Great Douk Pot and I immediately fell in a pool that’s usually ankle deep and was neck deep by the time I’d thrashed around in it ineffectively. The ‘spout’ was too wet to climb, so we crawled in across the bedding plane above it and had a lovely hour underground splashing through the river and climbing smaller waterfalls. The Dales are awesome!
@ danholme
Stolen from the net. I’ve never actually seen it with water going over it*. As that’s only happened a handful of times in the last 12,000 years statistically I suppose I shouldn’t feel cheated. It is the one in Harry Potter though.
Heh, I once climbed Gordale Scar, then couldn’t get back down again (it was too icy). That was a lovely impromptu 4 mile hike the long way round back to the car park.
I do love the Dales though.
(*unless you count me spitting off the top going “Eep, that’s a long way down”)
@ danholme
You’ve just remind me of something. There was a documentary recently about a guy taking climbing photos using the same (actual) equipment as the guy who pioneered all that. His model was some champion freeclimber. The interviewer asked her why she got into freeclimbing rather than using ropes etc.
That’s the most Yorkshire answer I’ve ever heard.
@AlanRobertshaw
That’s a great answer, I can get on board with that thrifty gumption.
I have zero disposable income, so I improvise with a lot of stuff.
We’re building some of our own ladders using some of the resources we have at school, though they’ll have only a limited lifespan. Hopefully the same won’t be said about us, for using them!
@ danholme
There’s a nice secluded cove down here in Cornwall (Lushington) that’s only accessible (except at very low tide) by clambering down the cliff. Over the years people have helpfully put in a line that’s basically old bits of washed up fishing gear and clothes line. Once went down to take some pics of an old mine shaft. Couldn’t get back up (bit of a theme developing) and then had to swim round the headland to the next bay holding my camera (and cigarette papers) above my head. Had the hound with me (she thought this was great fun) so emerged dripping wet on the next beach to encounter a bemused looking local. “You alright?”; “Yeah, just walking the dog”. Then had to walk all the way back up the cliffs, sopping wet, to where I’d parked.
So my tip would be, don’t make your ladders out of really slippery nylon.
@AlanRobertshaw
Duly noted, though I’ve done sillier things in pursuit of a mine shaft. I hope you got your pictures okay and that the camera survived!
We’re testing a few different ideas. Fortunately we’ve got a whole DT department workshop to play with, and a certain amount of spare time. It’ll be fun testing them, and by fun I mean ‘an accident waiting to happen’.
@ danholme
In another one of those weird Internet coincidences (which probably aren’t coincidences) Facebook has just thrown up a picture of Niagara Falls with the water turned off (I think Malham is prettier)
Axecalibur – thanks for the link to the gravatar site. I’ve attempted to use a photo of my most recent pie (apple/pear). Partly in honor of our younger son – as befits the son of a baker, he has adopted ‘apple pie’ as his default swear word. Incidentally, it’s my husband who’s the baker. He had his birthday last Thursday.
You might be amused to know that I just now got the joke in your screen name.
@Alan: That’s the American side. So it’s usually like this:
http://www.world-of-waterfalls.com/images/Niagara_Falls_016L.jpg
(Apparently this is why it was shut off. They wanted to scrap some bridges. And maybe study erosion? They did it before. Neat!)
I was really curious how they would turn off Niagara Falls!
(By that I mean the Canadian Horseshoe falls, which is what i think everyone thinks of when they think of the falls.)
Here is the comparison:
http://www.holidayinnniagarafalls.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/holidayinn-niagara-falls-5-e1453484075274.jpg
It’s ridiculous to be on a boat in the middle of that. And people go over it in barrels??? Why??????
Why would you want to tightrope walk across it????
Just to defend how cool the falls are, wouldn’t want someone seeing that rather unimpressive picture and thinking that the Horseshoe falls were that sad looking. I think they would look pretty interesting without the water!
@ rhuu
Thanks for that, it’s really interesting. I didn’t know there were two bits so I wondered why it looked a bit ‘straighter’ than usual. I’m tempted to click that link but I don’t want to spoil the image in my head that there’s just a big tap somewhere.
That’s why I like Malham, it’s got that classic horseshoe aesthetic.
Oh and according to Google, Victoria Falls is bigger. But who you gonna believe, all those snooty professors or the Yorkshire Evening Post?
@Robert
Totes adorbs
Well, we got there eventually ?
