Ugh. I’ve been hit with a nasty flu, so I will be out of commission today and probably for several more as this thing runs its course.
Which is a pity not only because I feel like crap but also because there’s lots of stuff going on. It’s (Not My) Presidet’s day, and there are anti-Trump protests around the US (and in London too, but for different anti-Trump reasons).
Meanwhle, our old friend fiend MILO was scheduled to be one of the keynote speakers at CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) but, oops, conservatives discovered that their favorite hateful bigot has, on a number of occasions, explicitly defended pedophilia oh sorry “ephebophilia.” And now he’s been un-scheduled. See the latest here!
Anyway, I’m going to go lie down. Feel free to use this as an open thread of course.
@Oogly
Eh, not working nor studying has a toll in the mind of who is depressed. I hope your family is supportive. I am very glad you are keeping yourself occupied. You must really be good with languages to be learning Japanese with success! I have ease with them but i dont think id ever have the courage to learn a language like Japanese, so different from everything we know in all senses.
YES LETS CELEBRATE WITH PETS PICTURES. Is any of these your doggo? CAUSE ILL NEED TO MEET THIS ANTIDEPRESSANT DOGGO.
@Dali
No, I’m ok now! Wouldnt be back if I wasnt. Eh, what can i do, I’m a martyr in the most literal (and unintended) sense. But nothing therapy, two weeks at the Beach, and a lot of unpleasant but necessary conversations cant solve. I’m stronger than before as always, so yey, ahead we go. How are you?
@Numerobis
*Smack*
@Guest
Maybe you have mind powers. Exactly, this is what he always lacked, life experience and contact with diversity. Im glad that it was ignorance and not bad intents.
@Axe
Heeeyy yooooooou!!! *Tight hugs* :3
@Chiomara
I got a second job, and am now working 7 days a week. and hence chronically tired. More so than usual.
In good news, Axe and I are an item, and getting on swimmingly. The only fly in the ointment is the ~2000 meatspace miles between us, a problem I know you understand.
@Dali
Wait, did I get it right? You and Axe are dating?! WHAAAAAAAAAT?! What have I lost in here?! When did this magic happen?! How amazing! If you dont have experience with ldrs you can ask me aaanything, really anything, I can give a private e-mail if you like.
Awwww, thats so cool!
I am sorry if I misunderstood it. I am not familiar with the expressions you used and assumed by context.
Dammit, weird question, but i realized i cant remember your genders and now I’m curious. You are a woman, right? And Axe?
Hello.
I wish you a quick recovery, David, under a blanket of cats (all work and no rest makes David a sick boy ?).
> Chiomara
Congratulations !
Have a nice day.
@Chiomara I have been working on my intuition lately 🙂
Found yet another thing I thought was worth sharing: Michael Moore has just launched this website called the Resistance Calendar, which is exactly what it sounds like – a calendar of every upcoming anti-Trump action (i.e… protest, petition, sit-in, etc…) anywhere in the world, to which anyone can add further ones they know of. Here’s the web address: https://www.resistancecalendar.org/. I think it looks really useful.
Those who follow the MRA groups, keep an eye out for their reaction to Milo’s pro-pedophilia comments. One of the things he said was that male student/female teacher relationships pretty much always have the boy being the predator. I’m sure MRAs will love that sentiment!
Poor poor David. Get those cats working their magic. Pronto!
Yay, yaaay Chiomara. Congratulations, felicitations and best wishes to both of you.
Misery woeful weepy me. Went back for follow up consult with super duper physician yesterday after doing the blood tests n everything. Turns out I was right – one of the times I wish I was wrong. He reckons my previously diagnosed non-specific arthritis was rheumatoid arthritis all along. Apparently 20% of RA sufferers don’t show an appropriate “score” on the specific blood test – I was previously one of those. Now – me being right about my ghastly infection having kicked my inclination to autoimmune disease out of the park – instead of a normal CCCP reading of around 6, I “won” something or other with a 300+.
For the moment my new additional drugs regime is prednisolone daily plus methotrexate once a week (with folate tablets every day except the day I take that. To counteract the side effects apparently.) This will change every month in a whole variety of new and exciting ways until we find out whether I need the high dose injectable versions and whether I need to stay with prednisolone longer term. Still sucking down the painkillers but at least the infections on the leg have now subsided so I don’t need extra oxycodone to tolerate the sometimes ungentle ministrations of the nurses. I just take some at night if any of my neck-back-hips-arms-pelvis are too sore to let me lie down and sleep or during the day when pain flares up worse than the usual baseline level.
We’ll survive it, but it’s really a bit much. Doc looked over his summary at the end and remarked that “You don’t have much luck in the health department, do you.” Yeah well, not as bad as some. My illnesses just affect my lifestyle, they don’t endanger my life … apart from the possibility of someone getting utterly fed up with my constant, graceless complaining and doing something drastic to shut me up.
For @guest and anyone else:
1 (5 oz.) boneless, skinless chicken breast half, cut into thin strips
2 T. + 1/2 t. soy sauce
1 T. + 1/2 t. Chinese rice wine
1/4 t. sesame oil
4 cups chicken stock (defatted chicken broth will do, too)
2 oz. (1 generous cup) medium egg noodles
1 large egg, well beaten
1/4 cup Chinese black vinegar
1 t. black pepper
1/4 cup sliced green onion tops
Toss the chicken with 1/2 t. soy sauce, 1/2 t. rice wine, and sesame oil. Set aside.
In a large pot, bring the stock to a boil. Add the chicken and noodles. Reduce the heat and simmer uncovered until the noodles are tender, about 7 min.
Stirring the soup constantly, pour in the beaten egg so that it forms lacy threads. Add the vinegar, pepper, remaining soy sauce, and remaining rice wine. Simmer for 1 min. Taste and add more seasonings as needed. The soup should have a peppery, slightly sour flavor. Garnish with green onions.
Serves 4 [2 if it’s the main course]

Get well soon! My cats say hi!
@David
I’ve been sick three times this winter. I hope you’re better soon!
@Chiomara
Welcome back & best wishes!
@mildlymagnificent
Stay strong!
@Ooglyboggles
You have such an eye for beauty and originality. The photos and graphics are wonderful.
Hey Chiomara, lovely to see you back; and congratulations!
(I don’t have the graphics skills to caption this, so just imagine it says something appropriate)
@ chiomara
Heh, weirdly this just popped up on my Facebook. Looks like the BBC are making programmes just for you now.
Welcome back, Chio!
@nequam Thanks, I’ll give it a go.
@abars01 Just had a look at the site, and I don’t understand it–am I just being dumb? I’d like to look for any upcoming events near me, but as far as I can tell you can only search by keyword and specific date. So in other words I might be able to type, say, ‘Manchester’, but could only look for events in Manchester on one specific date at a time. Do you know how to use it any differently?
@Chiomara, welcome back! And congrats on your boyf becoming more moderate.
Your little niece sounds so adorable!
My kids just turned 4 this past Saturday. They got pedal bikes! Although my boy doesn’t feel comfortable on his. We’ve got a party scheduled for this coming Saturday.
@ guest
I searched for “Los Angeles,” didn’t touch the date field, and got all listed events for the city.
Welcome back, Chiomara!
@Karalora You’re right! Which means there isn’t anything at all listed for my area :(. And I just got my pussy hat, too.
Now there’s talk that Breitbart might fire him. If they do, he’ll probably end up starting his own rival media empire, splitting Breitbart’s audience in the process (many of the people who read Breitbart only do so because of Milo).
A lot of his younger supporters (particularly the libertarian-minded ones) don’t have a problem with his comments and see CPAC disinviting him as a hypocritical act.
But if Breitbart doesn’t fire him, then at least six of its other staffers have already planned to resign in protest. So the site’s caught between a rock and a hard place.
@guest
So organize something and add it! 🙂
@Chio
What better way to start my day :3
You’re not mistaken
*snuggles Dali* Yep
INORIIIIITE!?
So much stuff
Late September we began flirting, mid October we moved off blog, and early November we fell in love. One of those, I reckon
Amazing is indeed the word for it
Chiomara: Couple’s Counselor ?
I appreciate the offer! She’ll let you know if she’s interested
I’m a boy. 2nd time you’ve asked that actually 🙂
Now I’m off to my job. I have a job now! Last year got weird at the end…
@David, you get better soon! Take your time in healing up, don’t you worry bout us.
@Chio, eeeeeeeeee!, welcome back! I’m sorry you’ve been so stressed and unwell, but it really sounds like everything is turning up so well for you right now! I’m ever so happy that boyfriend got the job that he did. There’s no better cure for racism than to be exposed to immigrants daily, and don’t you worry – just seeing women working hard in their daily lives there will help temper his sexism, too.
And that ring, tho. That’s gorgeous. I’m so happy for you! Welcome back!
@mildlymagnificent, that sounds miserable :\ tough it out! You will make it through okay.
@Karalora Would you believe in my tiny remote affluent town someone actually hung a banner on a bridge that said Bridges not Walls? Who knows, maybe I’ll organise something…and other people might even come….
Hope you feel better soon.
Your rhino is quite an old picture: it shows the dorsal horn, the existence of which was debunked when Clara did her tour in the 18th century: see
https://www.amazon.com/Claras-Grand-Tour-Rhinoceros-Eighteenth-Century/dp/0802142338
Apparently Meissen destroyed a bunch of china and recast it without the horn.
