Sean Spicer often seems as though he’s living in an alternate reality. I’ve been assuming that’s because, well, basically his job is to present bald-faced lies to the press and pretend that Donald Trump’s various pronouncements on any given subject aren’t a random mess of contradictions.
But what if the real explanation is that Spicer is just really, really high?
And so, in the tradition of previous posts like 10 pictures of Donald Trump with a tiny smoosh face and Six creepily filtered pics of Donald Trump, because why not?, I present to you Five Pics of Psychedelic Psean Pspycer.
In case you’re wondering, I made these with custom filters based on 60s era psychedelic posters on DreamscopeApp.com. Click on the pics to see them full size. Warning: Your mind may be blown.
I’d rather have Psych-edelic Sean Spencer. Sadly, I’m not getting any hits on that, but I think this is good enough.
Speaking of shrooms, today’s vegetarian recipe: mushroom risotto.
1.5 cups short-grained white rice. Arborio if you can find it, cal-rose is fine too. Must be white; it needs to get gooey, and brown rice doesn’t.
3 cups water. Or, generally, a 2:1 ratio of water to rice.
1 cup mushroom, diced
1 onion + 1-2 cloves garlic, diced
Thyme, oregano, and salt to taste. Or a bouillon cube (no shame in that, I just find them needlessly expensive).
Two glasses of drinkable white wine.
1-2 tbl oil, ideally saturated (coconut or butter or some such).
Saute the onions, garlic, and mushrooms briefly. Then add one glass of wine, plus the spices or bouillon cube. Saute for 2-3 minutes longer to cook off the alcohol and stir to mix the spices.
Pour yourself the other glass of wine. Start drinking it.
Toss the rice, water, and sautéed stuff all into a pressure cooker. The Instant Pot is magical, if you can find it on sale, definitely worth it; even full-price you get your money back within the year pretty easily.
Cook it for about ten minutes at pressure. Sip your wine and set the table.
Add some fresh parsley, chopped fine, and some grated hard cheese like parmigiano or pecorino or whatever; mix the whole thing. The other night we used goat cheddar, and that was delicious too.
You can do this on the stove too, but instead of “ten minutes at pressure” it’s “put in just the right amount of water, cook on low heat, stir constantly, add more water every few minutes, no don’t stop stirring, keep it up — NO, YOU MUST STIR WHAT ARE YOU DOING — for 45 minutes”. Which is a bit of a disincentive in my book.
I haven’t tried it yet, but I found a good sounding recipe for vegetarian spicy coconut kale stir fry that looks easy and tasty.
http://cookieandkate.com/2014/spicy-kale-and-coconut-stir-fry/
It looks like even I can manage it so I’ll have to try it in the next couple of weeks.
numerobis: You know, I have a $50 gift certificate to the local european market… I’m very tempted to get arborio rice and some fancy dried mushrooms to make that tomorrow.
Personal fun ‘shroom recipe:
2 Tbsp butter or olive oil
1 cup sliced cremini mushrooms
Seasoning salt
1 clove garlic, minced
1 bunch Rainbow chard leaves, trimmed and washed
3 chard stems, minced.
2 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
Salt and pepper to taste
Sautee mushrooms in butter with seasoning salt. Add minced garlic and chard stems and continue sautéing until fragrant. Pile on the Chard leaves and cover, let them steam for about 3 minutes, then stir until wilted. Drizzle vinegar, and add salt and pepper to taste. Serve as a hot side salad.
I don’t have any experience with dry mushrooms, just fresh ones.
Usually crimini mushrooms from the store – much better that Paris mushrooms.
Also chanterelles and hedgehogs from the woods. Mmmmm…
But I have some chard growing in the windowsill. In a couple weeks I might be able to harvest it again.
numerobis: I haven’t either, but I’ve seen them used in cooking shows, so I’m wiling to give it a try.
To be honest, I’m not a mushroom connoisseur. I grew up with fresh white mushrooms (parents hated canned vegetables), and recently switched to cremini for anything calling for sautéed mushrooms, since they’re cheap and tasty. 🙂 The local farmer’s market often has shiitake mushrooms, so that’s a nice treat in summer stir-fries.

In the plus side, looks like no milo supporter gave anyone a bullet to the guy this time.
If only being high as fuck were an explanation for this debacle, we could hope for a comedown at some point. I mean, hate is a helluva drug, but I don’t think it counts.
Trump is now picking a fight with Australia.

Canada is going to get steamrolled soon.
and Mexico (supposedly)
More verifiably Ms DeVos, creationist, anti-public school crusader is on the razors edge of being verified and even if Trump has to nominate someone more competent he’s named Fallwell Jr. to a advisory role. No confirmation needed.
Eh, why not! Attack everything! We have nukes and planes and missiles and tanks and army and navy and… more than one crazy bastard in the Whitehouse!
Spicer still reminds me of the Iraqi Minister of Information who was so adamant “There are no tanks in Baghdad” as they rolled past in the background.
@Kat
Nice to see some things haven’t changed at Cal. Go Bears!
More on-topic, I’d probably have to be tripping all of the balls to deal with being around Mango Mussolini as much as Spicer probably does.
Hello.
Well, i do not know if he is stoned, but that he is sure a bad trip for millions of persons…
Have a nice day.
This was tweeted by Laura Rozen. A friend of hers went to law school with Gorsuch:
Funny story: Even after every crisis Trump has visited on us in the past — what is it now, 1,000 years? — I still thought that this Gorsuch guy was just exhibiting juvenile humor.
Then I read about his Fascism Forever club in his fancy private high school (which he founded).
Correction: Judging by the yearbook, Laura Rozen’s friend must have gone to college (not law school) with Gorsuch.
I’m noting that the unnamed guy above Gorsuch, and Jesse Greenberg below him, don’t say anything loathsome. Maybe one of them could fill Scalia’s spot? I’m leaning toward Greenberg because we don’t have any art historians on the Highest Court in the Land.
Oh Cool, the President of the United fucking States of America is up at 4aFUCKINGm tweeting about fucking Milo’s attempted showing at Berkely. In case you weren’t sure Trump was mostly Bannon’s puppet.
I’m getting more and more pissed about the Trump Admin’s handling of the raid in Yemen as more information comes out. The short story though is they put out a press release calling it a success, when they killed more civilians than terrorists and had a NCO killed. Spicer of course tried to mildly backpedal but hold close to the ridiculous line.
As I understand it the Obama Admin had this intel for a while but hadn’t seen an opportunity they though would be safe/effective enough. First anti-terrorism action under Trump, he says go and it goes very bad.
The dividing line between Trump and “your racist grandfather who gets all his news from facebook content” was always pretty tenuous, and is getting more so by the day.
@ kat
Gorsuch was at law school with some chap named Barack Obama.
Just been engaging in some diversionary behaviour by reading up a bit on Gorsuch. He’s quite involved in that UK-US lawyers thing. He does seem to know a lot about the legal history of both the US and England. Some of his articles are actually pretty interesting reading. Maybe though his love of the history feeds into his view that the Consitution should be interpreted as it would have been back in the 18th Century?
You can get a good idea of how he’ll apply the law in this article he wrote. Basically ‘originalist’ and ‘strict constructionist’.

Continuing my Freud theme from the other thread; whoever first called Trump the Republican id was genius. He really, really is.
@Alan
Thanks for that link. I see that Gorsuch lauds Scalia. That’s gotta be the first requirement for getting that job.
Does anybody remember that Godawful live-action Mario movie?

Because I’ve finally figured out what Spicer’s ill-fitting suits remind me of.

I seem to have blocked that movie out. I know I’ve seen it but I don’t remember a thing about it.
