So today’s object lesson in obliviousness comes, as it so often does, from the Men Going Their Own Way subreddit.
The regulars there are discussing the important topic “Women are worse than a backyard full of cackling hens,” and one of the fellas pipes up with this, er, observation.
MGTOW dudes, I don’t know if you know this, but men do sex work too. I recommend you take it up for a week and see how “easy” it is.
I can’t think of a way this makes any sense at all. Assuming words mean loosely what they mean and nothing else I haven’t come up with possible logic behind that statement.
1000PHP is 20USD. So, you hate women selling sex (which you purport not even to want) so much that, when you see it, you feel the need to find any random man in the vicinity doing any random, non sex work and give him $20? Get a hobby and Go Your Own Way. Just maybe not to Southeast Asia
Also, how is someone who engages in prostitution not a prostitute? Is sex work like a licensed profession over there? And why does he care whether they are or not? Would he have been OK with it if these women weren’t desperate? Cos that’s some iffy morality there

Has Penis Associate (what a telling name!) asked himself why those Filipina women are so desperate? (Given the usual MGTOW lack of empathy, I’m guessing not.) It may have something to do with President Rodrigo Duterte being even more openly fascist than Trump or Putin. The guy has been killing drug users, and when his critics called him on it he said “Hitler massacred three million Jews. Now, there are 3 million drug addicts. … I’d be happy to slaughter them.”
I’m sorry; should all poor Filipina women be insurance agents? Is that your solution to crushing poverty? How many insurance agent positions do you believe are open in the Republic of the Philippines?
I love how when it’s an excuse to bash women, street vending is all of a sudden honest work. Usually these guys are the types who love Ayn Rand and bootstraps ideology. If people are poor, they should have better jobs than food service. The only acceptable reasons to be poor are “divorce rape” and “sperm jacking.”
I also thought MGTOW believed Asian women were better than western women because they perceive all Asian women are all submissive out of desperation for rich western men. I thought it was good that Asian women supposedly aren’t spoiled, entitled, and well fed like western women are.
They can never have any consistent beliefs besides women being bad, can they?
And why do so many of these guys have usernames related to penes, butts or poop? I never used to take Freudian theory very seriously. But looking at some of the things MGTOW do, I just don’t know any more.
For the thousand-millionth time reading one of their screeds, I wish to whatever gods there are that these guys would just GO already. Not to a Third World country (wouldn’t want to wish them on local women, who already have life hard enough if what this dolt says holds true, and he holds them in so much contempt for it). No…just to a desert island. Preferably with an active volcano, lots of poisonous insects and reptiles, and no internet. And no passing boats, either.

One of the recurring tropes of privileged people is the belief that poorer people somehow live a happier life. In the 18th century it was the Myth of the Noble Savage; in the 19th century there was the myth of the Happy Slave; in the 20th there was the Return-to-Nature movement; and now this.
As far as I can tell, this thoughtline assumes that the only problems that really exist are the ones that rich white people suffer from (mortgages, CV building, etc.) People who don’t live in a sufficiently developed country to have those particular problems must therefore not have any problems at all, and must live in a state of bliss.
It’s not like malaria exists, after all. /s

A lot of these guys are your typical entitled white cishet dude with the entitlement complex ramped up to eleven through a mix of sheltered upbringing, poor social skills and poor coping skills. Possibly autism to (not to be ableist; I have autism and I know the struggle, some dudes just think they have it the worst, worse than anybody else).
I suspect this guy figures that prostitution is like Pretty Woman. Newsflash: If you’re working as a sex worker to keep yourself alive you don’t get to be picky. You have to deal with that guy who looks like he hasn’t washed in days, and the guy who you know might beat you to a pulp if he doesn’t like what you did, and all the other unpleasant types out looking for sex. You can’t limit yourself to Mr. Alpha Hottie.
When this guy says “desperate” he is using it to emphasize that she’s desperate for the work to be easy.
He thinks they choose prostitution because it is easy. He quite possibly does not even know what the word “desperate” means.

Every time I (as an autistic non-dude) enter into a space populated by large amounts of autistic men, I can’t help but notice most of them seem to have an entitlement complex surrounding women. A lot of the more angry ones tend to be gators ironically.
Saying that there’s an issue among a certain intersection of people is not being derogatory towards them.

Amazingly the Incel crowd manage to be even worse. As far as they’re concerned inceldom is literally the worst thing in the world. It’s hard at times not to believe it’s a spoof but I’ve seen them seriously argue why everyone from rape victims to the inmates of the death camps were jammy bastards and could never understand the pain of being incel.
They have a special hatred for women engaged in sex work. Such women are of course exploiting the 24/7 agony the poor incel has to endure by charging for temporary relief. To them sex workers are the equivalent of ‘big pharma’, withholding literally life saving treatment unless paid. And they don’t even have the justification that they had to spend money inventing the cure; so they’re even worse.
I honestly haven’t seen that with any of my autistic friends and family.

I think some of these guys figure that at least a sex worker can get laid, so she automatically has it better than them even if she’s trafficked or doing it out of desperation to survive rather than choosing it freely. Incel is the worst oppression there is so it’s easy to arrive at the conclusion that every one else finds bizarre, that a middle class white western man is worse off than an impoverished woman of color in a country with a poor human rights situation.
