#ResistTrump! A list of 30+ #MuslimBan protests TODAY (Sunday)

Protests at JFK airport last night

Last night was just the beginning. Here’s a list of the dozens of protests scheduled for TODAY, from Birmingham, Alabama to Seattle Washington.

The list at GetGroundGame will be updated throughout the day; my list here will not. So check there for the latest info and to see what protests have been added, as well as for protests scheduled in the coming days. If you have a protest to add to the list, contact  @JessLivMo. on Twitter, not me.

If your city isn’t listed, see @JessLivMo‘s Twitter feed, which has info on it that hasn’t yet made it onto her big list.

@David
It’s all good, whatever topic you choose to focus on.

Feel better.

On top of the deaths and damage the survivors are suffering I wonder how long it will take the anti gun control people to start yammering about the Quebec City shootings. There are in fact people up here in Canada who’d like lax gun laws and concealed carry, and they’ll probably break out the usual “If someone had a gun….” nonsense. Someone in the States will, it’s a given, and will ignore the fact that Canada’s murder rate and gun crime rate doesn’t support their “more guns, less crime” narrative.

I was trawling the Al Jazeera comments to see if anything was about guns. Didn’t spot any. Did spot a ton of hate speech — pretty much every single comment was hate speech.

As David has pointed out in other comments, Trump and his supporters are probably the world’s greatest threat to women’s rights at the present time. Therefore, to detail means of resisting him is probably one of the most pertinent things one can do as a feminist at the present time. I hardly see how what he’s been doing these past few months is even slightly untrue to the spirit of this website, or any feminist website.

@eli, @mildlymagnificent
Both of you are experiencing a lot of stress, including the fact that Trump is the new president.

I’m sorry that things are so tough right now.

I hope that your situations improve soon.

My heart goes out to all Mammotheers who are facing difficult challenges. Stay strong.

@Grumpy Old SocialJusticeMangina

The trans subject is a perilous one, and I don’t want to linger on it for long because I was lurking during those two fall outs. We lost a lot of regulars who input I valued, and a couple trans individuals who I really used to look forward to hearing from. I even had the bad sense to throw in my two cents, even though it really wasn’t appreciated, and I can certainly understand why. I just wasn’t involved enough for my sudden interest at such a critical moment to seem like anything but border-line trolling.

But it was a difficult thing to see happen, and that’s because I believe that the people who believe there is such a thing as a male and female brain, and the people who believe gender is a construct, are actually on the exact same side.

I think we can all agree that the genitalia we are born with doesn’t actually determine whether your brain is going to be ‘masculine’ or ‘feminine’, and that alone puts all of us, trans-rights activists and just about every stripe of feminist I know of, on the same side. And while socialization plays a huge role in how our brain develops and what gender role most of us ultimately choose, we all also have inborn traits that we cannot deny. Those inborn traits just don’t line up as neatly with gender as misogynists like to believe, but they do exist.

I just don’t see why both sides can’t simultaneously be right. We should be able to just support each other, no matter what gender we choose to identify with.

If I am out of line, please forgive me. I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable. I love all of you, and I mean that. This blog, and it’s mammotheers, are my absolute favorite internet group. I just wanted to challenge some of what GOSJM said (though I really enjoy what you write too, so I hope you aren’t too put out by this!)

Just wanted to clarify this line; “Those inborn traits just don’t line up as neatly with gender as misogynists like to believe, but they do exist.”

By “as neatly” what I actually meant was “doesn’t really line up well at all, and those connections are tenuous at best. I’ve never seen a convincing study that can prove the majority of uterus-bearers are born liking feminine things, and the majority of penis-havers are born liking masculine things”. But I got a little cutesy and casual with my language there, and it sounded like I thought misogynists might have even the slightest edge on reality, and they don’t. They really don’t.

@Lord Pabu I will probably regret this but…some of us don’t believe there are ‘feminine things’ and ‘masculine things’. My big aha moment for this was decades ago at an exhibition of Tibetan art. I still have the image of a tiny gold female demon, in a dynamic pose, attacking with a spear–in this culture, ‘feminine’ means ‘bold and aggressive’, ‘masculine’ means ‘peaceful and serene’; women are portrayed in dynamic postures while men are portrayed as sitting still.

Was not at a protest, but went to a discussion on climate change in Rhode Island, put on by National Park Service employess and others. Allowed son to choose which of two conflicting things to go to; he chose climate change – and sat through three hours of discussion! Very proud of him.
Also, driving through Pawtucket, drove past a hot dog place advertising “Hot Weiners”, a pet-grooming place called “Doggie Style” and another double-entendresque name I can’t even remember, wihin a couple minutes. WTF, Pawtucket?

I’ve just seen this:

Mere hours after his inauguration, Trump filed paperwork with the FEC to be a candidate in the 2020 election. Welcome to the election campaign!

Say, folks, I’m an Australian, and on the news, I just heard that Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has elected not to condemn the Muslim ban on the grounds that: “It’s not Australia’s place to critique American policy, blah blah…” I was just wondering if something I could do would be to phone or email him, or at least phone or email someone, to say that I condemn him for this refusal, and that if he does not reverse his stance and condemn the ban within the near future, I will not be voting for him or his party again? (Remember, everybody has to do everything they can, no matter how small.) Should I do this or not? If so, should I contact him, or some other official? If so, does anybody know their contact details? And if so, does anyone have any ideas as to what I should say? (If I ultimately decide to, I’ll post a draft here first for critique.)

@abars: i would say definitely contact him, and your local representative.

Here’s an email form to contact your pm:
https://www.pm.gov.au/contact-your-pm

You should be able to find phone numbers/emails of your local representatives though.

You could also try a petiton, similar to the UK one about not inviting drumpf to see the Queen, if there is a system set up like that in Australia. Though i don’t know how to get something like that to ‘hit’, as it were.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

@the catagorisation of things as ‘feminine’ or ‘masculin’… ugh. I am not a very feminine person, and have never been. It hasn’t felt like a flaw, exactly, but it does feel like there are Important Life Skills that everyone has (makeup, knowing what shoes are ‘cute’, whatever) that i have never had.

I hate how things are unnessesarily gendered. How is Lego for boys? Why so many of my interests ‘masculin’? I just like what i like, and want others to gave the same opportunities. I want men to be able to knit, because it is soothing. I just…

I guess my point is that I agree that nothing is inheriently for any type of gender, and it feels limiting to impose that on everyone.

Just saw Kat was wayyy ahead of me RE: Spicer Retweets The Onion! xD

How did I skip it? I swear I read before posting to avoid this sort of thing, but I’ve done it twice in this thread (Kat’s just too fast for me).

Think it’s curtain time for this pupper.

Speaking of the Onion, I’ve posted a few things before from ‘Duffel Blog’. That’s like The Onion for service personnel. Here’s their take on Bannon’s appointment to the NSC…

Hmm, I’m trying to post a link to Duffel Blog. That’s like The Onion for service personnel. But WordPress doesn’t seem to like that. Anyway, they’ve got a post about Bannon’s appointment to the NSC. I’m sure people can find it if they’d like to read it, but anyway here’s a little taster…

Though CJCS Gen. Joseph Dunford and acting DNI Mike Dempsey have vast experience in national security issues, sources say both have little skill in defending against America’s core threats, such as women who use birth control.

Maybe Sean Spicer retweeting the Onion was a cry for help? Hey, Sean, are you being held against your will? Blink twice for yes.

Just chipping into the gender discussion: I’m a cis woman, I identify 100% as female, and I’d be hard put to think of any “feminine” traits or interests that I have. The fact that I’m born into this body doesn’t determine what I like or don’t like.

Feeling a lot of renewed energy to resist.

I am somewhat enjoying the incredulous shock Trumpians are in over just how many of us there are, and how vocal we are.
