So here’s an open thread to discuss the inauguration of popular vote loser and possible Russian agent Donald Trump. No trolls, Trump fans, etc.
I think I might go all Chuck Tingle and live-tweet a bizarro world version of the event. Or not. I don’t know.

I saw loads of inspiring women with awesome signs at the London event. One, though, stuck in my mind.
She couldn’t have been into double digits of age yet, and was no taller than my waist. However, the look on her face was ferocious. Regardless of how few years she had lived thus far, she was absolutely done with this bullshit, and wasn’t going to put up with it for even another second.
Above her head she bore a large sign, larger than she was: “NEVER SURRENDER.”
Whomever she is, I hope that one day I get to vote for her.
When nobody was looking Donald Trump took a forty pound cake.
He took a 40 pound cake.
That’s as many as four tens.
And that’s sad.
I was pleased to see tons of people packing into the bus this morning to head towards our march in the capital today.
I also saw a sign that made me very happy that said “Y’all means ALL”.
Damn straight.
Today is going to be a good day to resist fascism.
Have spent most of today nauseous with anger and anxiety. I really wish I could go down there and do something, or at least out to a local rally. I know that I don’t have to, just existing is a sort of resistance, etc, but it’s not enough, psychologically. Frankly I really just wanna go give Richard Spencer a right eye that matches his left. Like, I understand where the berserkrs are coming from.

x-posted from t’other thread – hi Londoners! Hi Mammotheers! No surprise at all that I wasn’t able to pick any of you out of the crowd – that crowd was (ha) HUGE! 🙂
The crush started on the platforms inside the station before even reaching the street; it took well over an hour to get as far as the starting point in Grosvenor Square! (which is about a 1 or 2-minute walk away, 3 tops) People were so tightly packed in the street just trying to get to the start that we could barely move; by the time we eventually got to Trafalgar Square (at about 2:30) it was almost impossible to get into the square – and there were a huge number of people behind us. Estimated 100k, and in all honesty I suspect that may turn out to have been a conservative estimate.
I think it was partly “thanks” to the fact that Trump and everything he stands for is dire on so very many fronts; people were protesting on all of them, some focusing on climate change, or austerity, or racism, or bigotry – and all focused on the protest against misogyny.
Hope everyone who made it to a march travelled and marched safely, and that those who couldn’t were able to enjoy some of the news and pics and such. ::waves hat at mammotheers::

As I say this I’m listening to a song called “Jenny” by Studio Killers, where the singer “narrator” professes her love for her best friend Jenny. Very upbeat tropical house tune that raises your spirits, made shortly after gay marriage became legal in the States (as a sort of celebration I guess 🙂 ). Remember how far we’ve come everyone, don’t lose hope.

Just back from the Cardiff march–huge turnout (I’m no expert, but I’d say in the thousands), and ONE policeman. (Either they didn’t expect a huge crowd, or they knew we’d be pretty chill.) Favourite sign–a uterus with ‘shed walls, don’t build them’.
From the news reports I’ve seen the DC, Chicago and Denver marches had such high turnout that they weren’t able to actually march. The entire march route was filled with people. Large gatherings in tons of more mid-sized cities as well.
Just back from the March in Trenton, NJ. The crowd was estimated to be 6000.
So great to see the diversity!
The speakers touched on lots of issues and the signs were fantastic. Despite the cold, the mood was optimistic.
I hope the marches encourage people to phone and write their representatives and come out again for each other.

On my way back from the Toronto march, i believe the speakers said that they estimated 60 thousand people were there.
There were horse cops and normal cops outside of the US embassy, but i didn’t see any others.
My first march, and it was good! All the speakers were ladies, and nearly all POC. They opened up the march by having an First Nations elder do a blessing, which was really nice.
My favourite sign went something like “feminism is the radical thought that women are people.”

Trump’s press secretary just stumbled through a statement insisting that the inaugural crowd was HUGE. Anyone who says it was smaller than Obama’s crowds is just a lying pootypants.
Then he ran off without taking questions.
@EJ: Thank you! I just joined a local facebook group that hopefully will help me find more things I can do to help locally.
We spent some time talking about Kevin O’Leary at the march, and how we definitely don’t want a Canadian Trump running the conservatives. I’d like to find ways to stop that from happening, because he really doesn’t have any time for any sort of social issues.
