So here’s an open thread to discuss the inauguration of popular vote loser and possible Russian agent Donald Trump. No trolls, Trump fans, etc.
I think I might go all Chuck Tingle and live-tweet a bizarro world version of the event. Or not. I don’t know.
Is Chuck Tingle doing that today? I might read that. Or maybe not, it will probably make me sad if I do.
I plan on spending the day baking and learning. I enrolled in an EdX course that started this week, so I have some homework to do.
At least the Pentagon said no to his fucking tank parade.
There was a tank parade?
No, he wanted one.

He and his staff wanted one, complete with missile launchers.

Kupo, and anyone else who would really rather talk about anything but Trump today, I set up a thread for that too!
Thanks, David! I saw it after I posted here. Tried to post a weird image but failed. 🙁
@Hippodameia
@Nequam
OMFG, did he mistake the Lincoln Memorial for Red Square? How are we supposed to identify fake news when the real news is this… Bizarre?!
They should be interviewing more Drumpf fans about their favorite thing about the Orange One. I could use a laugh.
Holy fuck, the tank parade! Could he be any more Soviet? This is pretty troubling in someone who now controls the world’s biggest military machine. He was briefed today on how to deploy nukes, and I’ll bet he had a boner throughout.
I’m stuck in a waiting room of an auto dealership and of course the inauguration is what’s on the television. The thing I am the least interested in.
I’ve never watched an inauguration before; why should the one I support the least be the first one I see?
If nothing else, a spot of light: there is a protest on my campus, albeit not terribly large and confined to the “Free Speech” zone.
Our local BBC station has been getting into the spirit of the inauguration with their music choice. A playlist of classic Americana, and then ending with “Back in the USSR”.
Subtle.
My internship today and one of the restaurants down the street is hosting a viewing party and I’m just like
If I wanted to watch a dumpster fire, I’d become an arsonist.
Hopefully, I can excuse myself by putting on headphones and saying I need to work, which I do, but it’s MUCH MORE PREFERABLE to whatever this shit will be.
David, I think WordPress ate my comment. : /
FYI: WordPress seems to be automatically moderating all comments from people with quotes and apostrophes in their name, so pls remove those. (The change will also lead to moderation for your first comment, but after I approve it you should be fine.)
I can’t stand the overt religiosity in this production. As if only those who think Jesus died for their sins are the only people who are correct. I’ve met too many people who actually think that.
I’m not watching. I can’t bear the thought of seeing the Obamas depart on Marine One.
Alas, the apostrophe is an inherent part of being Pavlov’s House. Perhaps I should be Dzerzhinsky Tactor Factory. Either way I want to recall you know, the time when Russians *fought* Fascists….
And tomorrow, support one of the women’s marches (if you aren’t able to march yourself). I will be in Lincoln at the Women’s March on Lincoln. There are 3 in Nebraska alone – this reddy red of red states, but we do have a strong liberal contingent in the metro areas of Lincoln and Omaha (and a weak liberal contingent everywhere else)
@Troubelle
Wait, there’s a free speech zone? Does that mean the entire rest of the campus is a safe space?
Mercy, please. The sniffing is back! Why do they keep buying auto-snort microphones for him?
@Kupo
Eh, not sure. Recall the chalk wars.
Trump’s demanding patriotism. I find that unpatriotic.
Wait, he was sworn in with his hands on two Bibles? Is that normal, or did he just have to do it more bigly than other presidents? And how did the Bibles not burst into flames at his touch?
