#ResistTrump today by reading the declassified intelligence report on Russian hacking

Trump’s Russian handler

Popular-vote-loser Donald Trump got his official briefing on Russia’s hacking of the election. In what we can only assume was an attempt to counteract Trump’s brilliant plan to flat-out lie about what was in this briefing, the US intelligence agencies released the declassified version of the report yesterday as well.

You should download it (direct link) from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and read it, if for no other reason than to see how blatantly Trump has already lied about its contents. (If you’d like to avoid going to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence site you can download the PDF from The Minneapolis Star-Tribune here.)

The report is actually quite short; especially if you ignore the appendix about Russia’s propaganda outlet RT, which is definitely worth reading on its own though not quite as essential.

If you don’t feel like dealing with a PDF at the moment, the Washington Post has a handy guide to the important bits in the report.

Tomorrow we start in on Trump’s cabinet nominees and their ethical failings, in preparation for a week of CALLING SENATORS.

If you’d like to get started early, take a look at this CNN/Money article: “Trump national security pick Monica Crowley plagiarized multiple sources in 2012 book.” The title is fairly self-explanatory. She plagiarized A LOT.

@ POM & Valentine

I don’t see a realistic solution to this objection.

Maybe if from now on we go with ‘Russian Government’? That mitigates against hurting anyone and, perhaps just as importantly, makes the key point that this was orchestrated at the highest levels and not just some freelance thing?

@POM

Partially yes maybe i am venting here. I saw alec baldwins stupid grammatically incorrect hat yesterday ‘Сделать Америки здорово снова’, how gleeful he shared it on twitter just made me a little mad and disappointed. Maybe i am confusing the different places, but i do not like the weird enjoyment from otherwise liberals i have seen with making these jokes.

I can’t remember back from first article on here to have made me start these comments, but i do remember feeling disappointed in david for immediately jumping on the bandwagon without skepticism and the predictable memes. I wanted to encourage skeptisism not defend putin.

Also yes russian is acceptable short hand i agree but only when you credit your readers with some intelligence and if like many news outlets you want to sell papers red scare still works in the US and it means that russia/russians and putin are one and the same still. There is one story. Blin my foot is in my mouth again here…i am rushing this reply a little…

With a due respect there’s no need for that. Specifics like washpo and ‘russians/russian gov/putin’ really are insignificant and are not what has distressed me. Honsestly i am so.tired right now i can’t think correct to make a good reply or remember what it was i.was trying to say ? but i do know my point is greater than those too and my skin is thicker than that.

Saying the report is not credible because the CIA has lied before is apparently a favorite tactic of Glenn Greenwald.

He must be happy — he’ll get to come home once Obama is no longer President. The Don surely won’t clap GG in irons and spirit him away to a secret prison for receiving documents from Snowden. Because we all know The Don is cribbing off of Obama with the intent of doing The Opposite of everything O has done.

But anyway — it doesn’t matter that the CIA has lied in the past, because 16 other intelligence agencies agree with them, and these agencies usually fight like cats in a burlap sack.

Also, too, it’s disingenuous to blame the election results on white people who didn’t turn out to vote when black people were disenfranchised at a historical rate.

I knew Proudfootz ‘nym looked familiar. The other blog I browse on the daily, Pharyngula, was where I’d heard it before. So I did a google search on the ‘nym in conjunction with that site, and, well, nothing too awful. Except for placing trigger warnings around a statement sarcastically (you know, because disagreeing with SJW-types merits a trigger warning, that type of sarcasm), which was precisely an asshole move. This was a couple of years ago, so maybe they’ve moved on and brogressed their stance a bit since then.

It’s interesting to think about would happen if the Russian government interference had benefited Clinton. Everyone from Trump to Milo would be in full Cold War/Red Scare freakout mode.

@LindsayIrene — it has really freaked me out, these last couple of months, watching the Republicans realign and decide that we have been friends with Russia all along.

I’m pretty sure Proudfootz is from Imgur too, and…my alcohol soaked brain cells have a terrible memory…but I’m pretty sure he invited me to spend Thanksgiving with his family one year. While wearing wizard hats.

Heh, I actually thought that when proudfootz accused PeeVee of being a stalker, they accidently let it slip that Cakeful is their sock (or the other way around) since that was the only info they searched and shared. :B

There is some level of cognitive dissonance because the far left was taught (by its pro-Soviet and pro-Chinese wings) to distrust the CIA during the Cold War. Though it turns out not everyone in far left groups agrees with left-wing or progressive values.

@History Nerd,

Not sure I agree with your characterization of the source of the various strains of lefties distrusting the CIA (and FBI).

I don’t think pro-Russian or Chinese leftist groups were the source of the Church committee findings about CIA assassination and regime change attempts, or drug experiments on unsuspecting people. Nor do I believe the Citizens Committee to Investigate the FBI, who revealed the existence of the COINTELPRO operations against lefties in general, and Black and Native rights groups in particular, were directed by the Soviets or Maoists (I’m open to correction).

Now, once the Russian and Chinese groups found out about them they certainly flogged them for all the propaganda value they could but that’s to be expected.

I think people got into the habit of thinking the FBI and CIA were a bunch of lying liars because of all the essays and articles appearing in papers and magazines over the decades about them doing fundamentally dishonest and criminal things. Also all the books published by former employees, and by authors such as Chomsky, Hersh, Zinn, McCoy, etc.

It seems obvious to me that not everything they always say is a lie, or they would be useless to the people who approve their budgets.

It has also been definitively shown that they lie or misdirect on a pretty regular basis.

So some scepticism is always warranted. And the unclassified report that was released is long on assertion and short on actual evidence.

But I’m happy to start calling the donald Comrade Trump. Or just plain tovarisch.

@Scildfreja, Viscaria

I think that he’s actually mocking 9/11 truther debunkers. Anti-truthers? I guess? He has videos that “support” the anti-truther side, except he does them in a fake hillbilly/redneck accent and tries to represent those positions as clearly ridiculous. The “9/11 physics” video description is chock full of actual truther sources that go against the point he’s “making”. It’s pretty far down the rabbit hole to make satirical videos mocking the people who debunk your conspiracy theory, so yeah at first glance to anyone who isn’t already steeped in the “culture” it is hard to determine his actual position.

Oh, wow. Care to answer to that, Proudfoot?

I mean, I’m bad with catching sarcasm sometimes, and I didn’t really watch the videos, but, wowwww. Good catch @dlouwe!

I too would really love to know whether wokefootz has a sincerely held but poorly articulated opinion on 9/11 trutherism, or whether they are cynically exploiting a ridiculous controversy for YouTube traffic.

Ditto wokefootz’ Obama videos – are they pro or anti or clickbait?

OTOH, am I curious enough that I would watch them? Probably not.

Who knew making a mild remark about taking a report from the CIA with a grain of salt would cause everyone here to have some sort of meltdown?

Sorry, not interested in your concerted efforts to derail the thread and make it all about me.

Yes, we all teamed up together to derail a thread and make it all about Proudfootz because…reasons? I don’t even know. We just must all be paid Hillary trolls and ferrets in a David suit or something.

You started that ball rolling by accusing me of stalking you in such a self-aggrandizing manner, proudfootz.

You are, after all, the random poster. I am not.

And you never answered my question.
