Popular-vote-loser Donald Trump got his official briefing on Russia’s hacking of the election. In what we can only assume was an attempt to counteract Trump’s brilliant plan to flat-out lie about what was in this briefing, the US intelligence agencies released the declassified version of the report yesterday as well.
You should download it (direct link) from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and read it, if for no other reason than to see how blatantly Trump has already lied about its contents. (If you’d like to avoid going to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence site you can download the PDF from The Minneapolis Star-Tribune here.)
The report is actually quite short; especially if you ignore the appendix about Russia’s propaganda outlet RT, which is definitely worth reading on its own though not quite as essential.
If you don’t feel like dealing with a PDF at the moment, the Washington Post has a handy guide to the important bits in the report.
Tomorrow we start in on Trump’s cabinet nominees and their ethical failings, in preparation for a week of CALLING SENATORS.
If you’d like to get started early, take a look at this CNN/Money article: “Trump national security pick Monica Crowley plagiarized multiple sources in 2012 book.” The title is fairly self-explanatory. She plagiarized A LOT.

@ Valentine
“My point about washpo though was they can cherry pick.”
That’s an argument we can use against any entity that discusses anything.
“Do not pretend that they were simply reporting the news. Their headlines were scare mongering and exaggerated.”
I’m noticing a trend here. Should we pretend instead that perfect objectivity is possible? and indeed should be the aim of news organizations?
Yes, the Washington Post has a point of view.
My question to Valentine is what publication does he think accurately portrays the news to the US?
Example of a scare-mongering and exaggerated headline?
Don’t bother reading Simon’s link, it starts off with “Why are you progressives worrying about something as unimportant as the end of American democracy when white people are dying from drug overdoses*” and only gets stupider from there.
*For Simon’s benefit: That’s not to say that the meth and opioid epidemic isn’t a problem, because of course it is, but 1. We’re capable of caring about more than one thing at a time, 2. “But what about white people’s problems???” does nothing but make the author look like a racist dick, and 3. I’m not entirely sure how letting Putin run roughshod over us is meant to help with that anyway.
SFHC, the guy is also selling a book.
I live in a small, blue collar town that has been hit pretty hard by the meth and opioid epidemic*, and I still think that article in Simon’s link is bullshit.
* My neighbor across the street deals meth in broad daylight and gets away with it because his brother is the mayor. Just another Norman Rockwell small town!
I’m not sure how I can care about Simon’s thing when I should be caring about child hunger. Although, I don’t know how I can care about that, either, when I should really devote all of my attention to environmental concerns which affect the survivability of our whole species. Gosh, it’s tricky only being able to invest in one issue for my whole life.
I showed the report to my cats.
Can’t tell if they’re bored or angry. Both?
Hahaha. I totally forgot I posted that picture in the other thread last night when I was drunk. Note to self: always go through browser tabs in the morning. :p
Sorry about that.
Two Fingies (and Demis) is twice as good!! You’re motivating me now to go downstairs and get a beer.
@Imaginary Petal maybe they just had the exact same reactions? Mine only have two to share between them; hungry and “I am a fearsome hunter and your foot is two seconds from becoming my prey. I am the night.”
Also, does the sun always burn like this when you stop lurking? Hi everyone!
@Пом
My internet is not so goof right now.
I will post links in a few days.
I have some people on twitter. Yasha Levine и Alexey Kovalev. They post good things which provably sound less pro putin than i apparently do. I would find their good posts now but it is taking forever to load anything.
I love how cat yawns are adorable until they reach the apex, when they momentarily become threatening. Just a little reminder that your fuzzy little friend is MADE OF TEETH AND MURDER.
CW for teeth and murder:
Oh yes, why should we ever listen to the WaPo when we have TWITTER.
Falconer,
This is our country right now….living off Twitter briefings from our PEOTUS who is a giant asshole. Gotta love this democracy at work to provide the most damaging President Elect our country has ever seen paired with the most evil GOP led government.
In Valentin’s defence as a fellow russian: really not a lot of people give a sh*t about USA election and/or are afraid to resist government and are apathetic and apolitical, mostly because our government f*cking hates it’s people and any meaningful opposition will meet a violent end and we don’t get to choose our tormentors.
Sure, there’s enough pro-putin idiots here, but no more viciously conservative idiots here than in USA or in any other “progressive” country, nothing special.
When you spread anti-russian rhetoric remember you rally against our government, radical reformation of which is vital for us russians too
Who is spreading anti-Russian as opposed to anti-Putin rhetoric though? Examples?
Who is spreading anti-Russian as opposed to anti-Putin rhetoric though? Examples?
One, happy that you appreciate it; two, I was kidding when I suggested that but you’re actually Russian so I was actually half right and that’s kinda funny. Thirdly, if you think the Washington Post headlines are scaremongering, you ain’t seen nothing yet. I mean, there’s a reason why people make fun of “the war on Christmas” or “lesbian taking over farming”. High-profile and popular American news sites (coughFoxNewscough) are teeming with scaremongering because that’s what gets them views and clicks. The only way you’ll get American news from a popular news site that doesn’t scaremonger would be getting it from a non-American source, is what I’m saying.
The Cakeful is a liar.
In other news, National Treasure Mark Hammil is reading Trump’s tweets in the voice of the Joker
@Jack
Lesbians are taking over farming? How is that possible when women have always been a part of farming?
While we were distracted by the election, a Reddit incel reached peak stupid:
