#ResistTrump today by reading the declassified intelligence report on Russian hacking

Trump’s Russian handler

Popular-vote-loser Donald Trump got his official briefing on Russia’s hacking of the election. In what we can only assume was an attempt to counteract Trump’s brilliant plan to flat-out lie about what was in this briefing, the US intelligence agencies released the declassified version of the report yesterday as well.

You should download it (direct link) from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and read it, if for no other reason than to see how blatantly Trump has already lied about its contents. (If you’d like to avoid going to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence site you can download the PDF from The Minneapolis Star-Tribune here.)

The report is actually quite short; especially if you ignore the appendix about Russia’s propaganda outlet RT, which is definitely worth reading on its own though not quite as essential.

If you don’t feel like dealing with a PDF at the moment, the Washington Post has a handy guide to the important bits in the report.

Tomorrow we start in on Trump’s cabinet nominees and their ethical failings, in preparation for a week of CALLING SENATORS.

If you’d like to get started early, take a look at this CNN/Money article: “Trump national security pick Monica Crowley plagiarized multiple sources in 2012 book.” The title is fairly self-explanatory. She plagiarized A LOT.

Russia’s goals were to undermine public faith in the US democratic process

Well, sure fucking succeeded at that.

Talking of propaganda…Washington Post isn’t exactly a reliable source in all this.

And why is that, Valentine?

WaPo is pretty reputable, in fact. What is your preferred news outlet?

Maybe they’re confusing it with The Washington Times (AKA the Moonie Times.)

This is not the first time Valentine has made an implicit defense of Putin. I’m trying to give them the benefit of the doubt because I’m 99.9% sure they’ve made non-trolly comments on other topics in the past. But I’ve side eyeing a bit as of late.

Maybe they’re one of those paid Russian trolls or something?

Unfortunately, running a Google site search for their name is going to take some digging to look at their commenting history, because of the large number of posts about Valentine’s Day.

OH GOD, I just remembered that W used to call Vlad P. “Pootie-Poot.” I can’t believe we just lost our democracy to Pootie-Poot.

Whenever two or more feminists meet to talk about women’s issues, an MRA smashes through the metaphorical window screaming #NOTALLMEN.

Whenever two or more Mammotheers meet to talk about Putin’s success in turning the US into a Soviet state, Valentine smashes through the metaphorical window screaming #NOTALLRUSSIANS.

House Republicans revive obscure rule that allows them to slash the pay of individual federal workers to $1

House Republicans this week reinstated an arcane procedural rule that enables lawmakers to reach deep into the budget and slash the pay of an individual federal worker — down to $1 — a move that threatens to upend the 130-year-old civil service.

The Holman Rule, named after an Indiana congressman who devised it in 1876, empowers any member of Congress to propose amending an appropriations bill to single out a government employee or cut a specific program.

The use of the rule would not be simple; a majority of the House and the Senate would still have to approve any such amendment. At the same time, opponents and supporters agree that the work of 2.1 million civil servants, designed to be insulated from politics, is now vulnerable to the whims of elected officials.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a woman in the possession of a fact must be in want of correction from a man.

…Okay, assuming that the Washington Post is a rag, how does that make this post propaganda? The source of the information are US national intelligence agencies, not the Washington Post, and the report coming directly from them has been provided in this post. Even if the Washington Post is completely unreliable, then the exact same material can be read from other sources, which you haven’t attacked yet.

I think the WaPo baloney stems from them correcting the Vermont Power hack, because that’s what journalistic integrity demands.

Breitbart and other reactionary publications take this as WaPo publishing fake news, because they, of course, never detract or correct false information…themselves lacking any sort of journalistic integrity whatsoever.

WaPo has gotten a bad rap because they were about the only paper actually investigating Trump — largely one journalist.

This means they are fake news, etc.

First of all thanks for using ‘they’re’, it is appreciated. Though you can use ‘he’ if you like.

No I’m not a paid russian troll. My name is Валентин, I’m from Одеса and I’m not pro putin either. My brother lives in Yalta since 2014 and euromaidan I’ve watched him go from proud ukrainian to pro russian, right wing nonsense-believer. I don’t talk with him anymore. Also last time i was in russia i was held in a cabin on board for more than an hour and needlessly question about my family and all kind of personal nonsense based on the ‘world has changed’. This is russia. This is the russian system. I have no rose tinted glasses for this.

I did not have a chance to read report yet but i can see from reactions on line, skeptics says it’s nothing, others like here says it’s 100% proof.

As for washington post they have been jumping to many conclusions to get people scared and worked up over putin. I don’t even say that it is not possible. I am just saying many jumped in too early with no evidence and there are plenty of people it suits to get anti-Russian panic back into normal behavioir.

Also as for the #notallrussians thing, i get it is a joke. But i don’t feel that’s what I’ve been doing.

Except, of course, the actual original material from dni.gov is freely available and clearly linked in the OP. The fact checks you hypothetically need are right there. Read first, cast stones after, maybe?

Oh, greeeeaaaaaat. I just checked on Russia when it came to hate crimes, then I glossed over to Vietnamese treatment and, well then. I, don’t really know what to say other than, fuck you Russian government, I and anyone less of my ethnicity deserve the basic human decency to not get deported/knifed/murdered or at the very least have decent protections.

So not only is the country I live in getting fucked over by Russia, but so are the people of my ethnic group. Fuck this election.

For peeps who want to go into this a bit more deeply James Clapper gave evidence about the hacking to Senate Armed Forces Committee on Thursday just before he briefed Trump. The issue was very thoroughly explored and goes into a lot more detail than the redacted report. They also look at cyber threats generally and there’s some interesting history about trying to influence elections in the past (including the CIA’s efforts). Fascinating stuff.

It was covered by CSPAN so hopefully that’s still viewable somehow.

@ooglyboggles

Was it not anti intellectual to jump to conclusion that the hacking claims were true before evidence was published?

I will read the pdf but currently my internet is very limited and i cannot download it. Not until i am in russia or turkey will i have strong internet from 3g. Now just shitty ships internet.

My point about washpo though was they can cherry pick. Before they were on the side to say the hacking happened because thats what they reported all along.

Turns out they were right and their sources weren’t lying. What lousy journalism! How dare they report something before the government officially verifies it!

Do not pretend that they were simply reporting the news. Their headlines were scare mongering and exaggerated.
