#ResistTrump today by resting up for the busy week to come. Also, space testicles.

Nobody expects the Space Testicle Inquisition!

Next week is going to be a busy one: Republicans are trying to push Trump’s terrible cabinet picks through the confirmation process in a big hurry, so we all are going to have to step up our calling/writing congress game.

But it’s Friday, so let’s take the night off and try to figure out why the dude in the spaceship in the pic up there is being assaulted by an army of space testicles.

(If you want to know the real story behind that cover art, there’s a scan of the whole magazine linked to here. But you all can probably come up with better explanations for the space testicle army.)

See more Resist Trump Today posts here.

German police quash Breitbart story of mob setting fire to Dortmund church

Country’s politicians warn against fake news after Breitbart website said group chanting ‘Allahu Akbar’ vandalised church on New Year’s Eve

Justice minister Heiko Maas warned in mid-December that Germany would use its laws against deliberate disinformation and that freedom of expression did not protect “slander and defamation”.

When will the USA pass or enforce laws against “deliberate disinformation”? Or can our government not stand in the way of any scheme as long as it makes money?

Bild, Germany’s top-selling daily, also predicted trouble ahead – pointing to the fact that Breitbart’s former editor Steve Bannon had been appointed as US president-elect Donald Trump’s chief strategist.

“Trouble ahead”: sounds like the correct prognosis to me.

It warned that Breitbart – which plans to launch German and French language sites – could seek to “aggravate the tense political climate in Germany”.

Spreading their vicious lies around the world.

Breitbart has declined to comment.

Of course.

That’s not a space anus or space vulva.

@eli, @Kat,

Thanks for that! I do recall my mum insisting to the step-dad that it was a joke, to no avail. Good times.

Re my earlier comment about Laurie Penny (I don’t work for her, promise). This (partial) line

The placing of strength above compassion, might above morals…

Is echoing in my head right now, having just seen this on Twitter:

It encapsulates the mindset perfectly.

@Mish
Sorry you saw that on Twitter. It’s repulsive.

OTOH, it’s amusing that the writer thinks that Europeans are a race of men who are good at capturing women, who are presumably from the race of women (geographical home unknown and unimportant).

So on the one side are the conquerers, the Europeans, who are a race of men.

On the other side are the resources to be grabbed, the race of women.

I suppose the race of men actually have to conquer the race of women if any babies are going to be born. It sure looks like members of the race of women won’t be grabbing the members of the race of men.

And everyone knows that members of the race of women love babies. So no apologies to the race of women will be extended — or would be warranted.

Of course, all this crapola is also meant to indicate that the (European) writer is very successful indeed, with lots of land, food, water, and women. He’s a strong, smart explorer — a winner!

Snort.

I’m glad to see that, in the future, there will be ginger astronauts. The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.

Finally….finally he had built his rocketship and escaped the Facist Marxist Misandrist Gynocentric hellhole that was earth. Finally he had listened to the taunts and trolling for too long and was ready to….go his own way. Piloting the USS MGTOW to a planet where women had never stepped foot.

The landing had been rough, to say the least, since complaining about women on the internet does not leave much time to learn how to pilot a rocket. but our intrepid hero had arrived mostly unscathed. While waiting for the final determination that the atmosphere was safe to breath he took a look out the porthole….and the sight took his breath away. They could only be aliens, but there was something about their forms that reminded him of the cause…of what he had been fighting for. These aliens…they were the pinnacle of evolution. He could feel manly tears start to drip down his cheeks. Finally….finally he was home.

House point available for identifying the source of the quote ‘Self – respecting monsters don’t eat quiche.’

Regarding that oafish ‘conqueror’ meme I suspect the word ‘men’ is being used in its English Common Law sense to mean ‘people,’ that is if the posting oaf is actually smart enough to know this. Perhaps an opinion from our legal expert Alan Robertshaw would be handy here ? (BTW Alan I’m not being sarky, I really think you could help.)

The type of person who would post that conqueror meme is undoubtedly the same type that wrings their hands about Sharia law and thinks that Muslims are taking over the west via immigration and having kids with white women.

Well, if they really are taking over, by their logic doesn’t that make Muslims superior?

Cannon Film Production Group were famous (notorious?) for their practice of producing a poster first then a title and then selling the distribution rights to a film before actually getting someone in to write the screenplay.

In fairness a lot of those subsequent films did turn out to be highly entertaining.

The weird thing is, when they wanted to, Cannon could produce some absolute masterpieces. True cinema as high art.

When conquering Europeans conquer, it’s proof that they are superior.

When conquering Muslims conquer, it’s proof that Europeans were betrayed by evil traitors who knew the Muslims couldn’t win a fair fight.

I need to scrub my bleeding brain now.

Heh, expert is pushing it; I’m just have a moderate ability to remember and regurgitate stuff.

But as to your point about the meaning of ‘men’ in that post. We obviously can’t know what the author intended. Though we could perhaps draw some inferences from the fact there’s often a correlation between these views and sexist attitudes.

It might just be a flowery turn of phrase (too much Tolkein maybe) and he is using men as a syndoche for people as a whole.

However I personally suspect he literally means just men exclusively. Guessing his thoughts isn’t a legal question; but if you want to apply standard legal interpretation techniques to the actual words then the first thing to note is that if he’d intended to include women in that the the addition of ‘of men’ is superfluous. ‘Race’ would have surficed.

So the ‘of men’ here appears to be a qualifier. It’s narrowing down the broader category. Just my view though, a wider interpretation would be arguable.

@ vicky p

I don’t think anything has better encapsulated that double standard than this exchange from Blackadder:

Captain Darling: So you see, Blackadder, Field Marshall Haig is most anxious to eliminate all these German spies.

General Melchett: Filthy hun weasels, fighting their dirty underhand war!

Captain Darling: And fortunately, one of our spies…

General Melchett: Splendid fellows, brave heroes risking life and limb for Blighty!

Pretty confident that anyone who lists women as a resource means “men” as “members of the male gender” rather than as “humans.”

Fellow Mammotheers in ‘resist Trump’ mode, I ask your advice.

A FB friend I went to high school with posted “It’s just my opinion, but I don’t think the Russians had a hand in who won the election, but I think God did.”

I was shocked (not entirely sure why, but I was) I took a screen grab. I was even more shocked by the fact that a genuine, actual friend from high school (who to be fair I’ve largely lost touch with) liked the post.

I dropped by the next day with a link to public intelligence report – which to be fair, doesn’t make it gospel truth, but I think it is true. I thought about also asking “What, in particular, do you think God had in mind with the outcome of this election?” But I’m not a believer anyway.

Maybe there’s no point in engaging? But I feel that people who have provided both electoral and ‘moral’ support for this travesty need to be engaged with.

Alan, thanks. Food for thought.

Everyone, the house point is still up for grabs. By way of a clue, the quote is from a graphic novel I believe to be American.

I don’t have any terribly useful advice but I think for now there’s no harm in engaging and trying to make some headway. You can always disengage and/or block the person on FB if it goes badly. Since it’s someone you’re no longer close with, you really don’t have much to lose.

Is ‘God’ punishing us for our ‘sins’ here? Or is this a ‘blessing’ from ‘God’?

The only point of engaging I can see here is if you like frustration. If they’ve decided Trump is a gift from God, then any criticism of Trump is criticism of God. ‘God’, here, is not God, but ‘thing I approve of and want to protect from any kind of reasonable criticism.’

See also “thank you, Jesus, for letting my team win the super bowl. I knew you were on our side.”

I never understood attributing sport victories to prayer. What if equal numbers of equally devout people are praying for two different teams? How does God choose? Why is God even involving himself in sports anyway? Aren’t there more important things to worry about? If I were a deity and I heard say, someone praying that their family won’t starve and some douchey NFL player asking for victory in his game, the starving family is going to be higher on the priority list. If I ran the entire universe, I can’t imagine a sporting event would be all that important to me.
